Top 100 Classroom Apps
Modern teachers are bombarded with decisions they have to make about the education and well-being of their students. Between seating charts, classroom material, and assessment types it is no wonder that many educators experience burnout before they even reach the winter holidays.
Classroom resources are a whole different beast. Many teachers opt to bring in their own materials (using their hard-earned money) to enrich and extend their lessons. While indoor recess boardgames are never going to go out of style, many schools are transitioning their traditional classroom staples, such as chalkboards and textbooks, with “smarter” technology. This means that students have regular access to computers and are often issued tablets and iPads for school and home use.For teachers, this technology can offer relief, organization and enrichment. If your students are equipped with iPads and you are scratching your head wondering how to utilize this tool to the best of your ability, look no further! Here are 100 awesome apps to get your started on your new and exciting journey.
Any apps that you love and use everyday in your classroom? We would love to hear from you in the comments below.

TBE The best ever. I love this thanks to it we got a compliment from our teacher. She said 'I think I might go to the battle of the books competition. Morris my hate a winning team.' I was happy and felt bad for last year's kids. Thanks to edmodo i feel smart
Negative Review
Good, could be improved The app is pretty good in general, but could be improved overall. Pros: Good offline version of Edmodo, notifications show up in the system bar with icon for indication of alerts, assignments, etc. Cons: The left bar can't seem to be hidden, (Is it just my tablet?) notifications don't seem to disappear after viewing, apps aren't compatible with mobile version, such as Snapshot.

This app has been touted as the “Swiss army knife” for teachers. Its features include tools for classroom organization, behavior monitoring, and grading. The app allows you to organize your students easily with the seating chart feature or to keep track of individualized tasks throughout the day. TeacherKit is customizable so every teacher will use the program differently. Regardless, this app can certainly give you the boost you need to get your year off on the right foot.

Excellent This application is really awesome it's very helpfull , easy to use and keeping track with everything. Thanks :))

Needs a Total Remake!!! Seriously I have one of the newest phones, and still find ur app slow. beside whats wrong with setting pictures for classes and students... haven't you guys heard of saving aspect ratio of a picture when trying to resize it to fit in a circle or a square, also there is a crop feature why not use it rather than having to resize a picture if you can't properly do it. This app needs to be professionally re-designed and developed

The Super Duper Data Tracker app is a data collection program that allows teachers to track and document an individual student's progress. The expanded version allows you to create multiple goals for each student and then choose from various response types over the course of the day. It can store unlimited data on individual students or groups and then email the results to the students or the student's parents. (And if that isn't enough, it also can graph your information into a colorful and interesting display!)

If you find that class sticker charts and prizes aren't reliable features for your classroom management strategy, Class Dojo might do the trick! The app allows teachers and parents to focus on “soft skills” such as focus or curiosity by giving their student's instant encouragement during class. Teachers can choose and customize behaviors for each child and then award the student in the class Dojo when a task is completed. Teachers can then engage with parents using progress reports and instant messaging.
Positive Review
Love this app. I teach a class of 31 sixth graders (all subjects but music) in a high poverty school and this app has helped make my job a little easier. I will open up the web version on my computer at the same time so when I give points on my phone the kids hear the sound through the speakers. I use the random student selection all the time too and this has increase classroom participation. Love this app
Negative Review
Points keep disappearing I like the app, but the points keep resetting. I'm using dojo as an incentive system so it's frustrating when what I'm supposed to be keeping track of disappears. At first I thought I was somehow erasing them, but I have been so careful I think it has to do with me opening up the browser version and it not synching. I'm really disappointed and not sure what to d

This relatively straight-forward app allows teachers to assign weekly or daily screen time allowances for each child. The allowances can be set on repeat or on accumulative based on classroom preferences. It can be adjusted so that children can earn screen time based on good behavior as well. Teachers can rest a little bit easier knowing that there is one less item on their plate that they have to monitor daily.
Positive Review
Great tool to keep track of your kid's ""screen time"" for their device. I like how you can see how much time they've been on the device. The reward system is good - It's a great way to encourage my kid to keep up on his choirs to get more screen time. Simple and easy to use app.
Negative Review
This app is absolutely useless and did not help me with my screen time in any way. The parental controls for the app come unlocked every time you turn off your phone. Don't waste your time with this app

If you use multiple Apple devices in your classroom, Nearpod is a must-have app. This platform enables teachers to use their own smart devices to manage content on student's iPads, iPods, or Macs. It can combine presentations, help with collaboration, and give teachers the tools for real-time assessment inside one integrated solution.
Positive Review
Helps our Studies We always use this at school and it's a great way to learn our new lessons. We don't get bored anymore looking at a powerpoint presentation in front, we just look at our iPads and tablets and we can see what the teacher us talking about. Thy can even put videos and activities in the presentation! :-) Cooool!

It may not have all the bells and whistles but the Smart Seat app will be there for you when you need to put together a seating chart or keep track of your attendance. It is easy to export and share with other teachers or to include in your sub plans.
Positive Review
I am going to give this app 5 stars, because it has been a life-saver as a teacher. I am a Library Media Specialist and I see 17 different classes on a 6-day cycle, so I need to stay organized. I love the camera/photo feature and I love being able to take notes on individual students (really helps to keep IEPs, etc) in order.Even though there are still a few things I would like to see happen with the app, the #1 reason I am giving it 5 stars is because they actually listen to people's suggestions about how to make it better and upgrade whenever possible! I recently suggested that it would be very helpful to be able to manage my list of classes by having the ability to switch them around, and today I discovered I now have that ability! Thanks Cornsoft!
Negative Review
This app lets you create seating charts with desks on a grid, record and export attendance, choose random students for class participation, make student notes, and store student photos all in one place. Move students around by dragging and dropping students. Generate a PDF version of your seating charts (with photos) as a backup or to give to substitute teachers. Take role easily by tapping on absent, tardy, or excused students. Create spreadsheets of your class attendance records and then easily transcribe the records to your school's attendance system. Load student photos to help you quickly learn student names. Make notes about each student. Export student records to e-mail. Create a custom desk layout by starting with a grid pattern that you choose, then hide selected desks. Go paperless!

The newest versions will balance out the teams in terms of skill or gender so there is no need to worry!

Possibly one of the most powerful presentation tools built for Apple products, Keynote allows students to put together an animated presentation with the tap of their finger. The app comes with pre-programed themes which can be updated with text, images, charts, and tables. Once the presentation is complete, it can be presented from the same device or sent to another presenter display platform.
Positive Review
Great $10 app!! Using it on my iPad, it's slick and very easy to use. While on travel, my laptop gave up with my Power Point presentation on it; I was not sure what to do. In desperation, I turned to my iPad for back-up and downloaded this app. To my amassment, I was able to comfortably learn and use this system within thirty minuets of the download! I then completed a fifty page presentation complete with graphs, charts, photos and animations in less time then would have been needed with Power Point. My laptop/Window days our over. Free at last free at last thank Apple I'm free at last!
Negative Review
Keynote is a really cool app and good when working. But that was two years ago. Like all the apple productivity apps, they are slow sluggish and increasingly frustrating. I've been using them for over three years now and they have become more and more useless. I even purchased an iPhone 6 plus thinking, well now it will work better, and it does, but ever so slightly. Apple should really get back to job-eon thinking of making sure that anything that has apple's name on it should represent quality, ease of use and great functionality. This, like work and pages, do none of those well.

No matter what type of presentation platform you use to create your piece, Power Presenter has got your back. Simply save your PowerPoint as a PDF file and let the app work for you. It will be able to mirror the iPad presentation onto a projector screen. The presenter will also be able to draw or highlight text on the slides and then email out the changed slides to his or her audience.
Positive Review
This app is a really good app, I find it very useful to do a presentation. But I would like to see some improvements with the pen. I would like to see the use of the pen to be more sync with the user's finger. Overall this is a good plication and plan on using this app very often

Sometimes teachers just need an app that gets the job done. Sadun's Whiteboard lets you connect your iPad to a TV or projection system and use both screens as electronic whiteboards. Consider the possibility of being able to walk around your classroom while putting notes on the board!

Numbers is an innovative spreadsheet app that works well on iPad devices. Students can start with one of over thirty pre-designed templates and apply over two hundred and fifty different functions to their results. They can tap to add tables, charts, text, or other images. It is easy to use and easy to share making it a definite asset in math and science classes.
Positive Review
I have been using iWork for about a year and Numbers is the best. Its very simillar to excel but has a friendlier layout and nicer look. It is over all just a nicer looking and feeling version of excel.Compared to Googles 'sheets' it makes sheets look like a childs toy. Numbers is much more powerful (again it is like excel) and because the overall use has the same features laid out nicer than excels. You will see sheets just ends up being non powerful and lacking in key features or its just confusing to use.

If you are looking for a presentation software that is a little bit out of the ordinary, Roambi Analytics is certainly worth a look. It strives to “redesign” the way in which students interact with, share, and present data. The app makes it easy to take data from any subject area and turn it into interactive charts and visualizations.

The app contains more than eighteen different applications that range from (over) 800 sight word flashcards to interactive tracing drills.

Although not exclusively an app for children, Kindle is optimized for a variety of Apple devices including iPads. Users can read books, newspapers, magazines, textbooks, and PDFs on a simple interface. The “whispersync” automatically keeps tabs on the readers last read page, bookmarks, notes, and highlights. Students can find books, personal reading, and textbooks for classroom reading and discussion.
Positive Review
Screen so bright at night I need a pair of Ray-Bans Look I like Kindle but on my Galaxy S4 it just isn't light intelligent. I'm not asking that it auto adjust lighting for me (because anyway when it does that it just hurts my eyes with the bright white which isn't adjustable) but at least stick to the settings I use for my device at night, because otherwise I just can't read at night which is unfortunate because that's actually the time I dedicate to reading. If you'll change this in a sooner update please reply to me so I'll know I can use the app again.
Negative Review
Issues I would give it more stars if I didn't have to remove my books every time I try to read them. I always receive 'remove this book and go to all items to download again', but it doesn't work. Been an issue for quite some time now. I'm using a Samsung Note 2

Tweens can often feel like the hardest age group to get excited about reading. Whether the students are reading for pleasure or for class, Best Book for Tweens can help your children find new books while customizing a shareable reading list. The app is also a fun way for parents and teachers to get more information about popular books in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade reading levels.
Positive Review
OMG I LOVE THIS APP BUTT the one thing is that could you please add more books
Negative Review
This app needs to be updated more often with recent titles. The books in the list are outdated.

This enjoyable app helps students learn sight words while also covering a few words from both Fry's and Dolch lists. The words are presented in colorful videos before students can test themselves with a flash card quiz. Parents and teachers can also log in to check on the child's progress.

I have bought your phonics dvd too (imported.from us) Hope you continue to release.on android
Negative Review
I purchased all of the Rock n Learn apps on this site words program and only ONE out of four works and that is how it has been for months. Very agitated. These updates really tick me off. This app was one of my son's go to apps. So many children with special needs use these things. You people at Apple can't just charge for apps, do updates so that they don't work anymore and not expect to refund our money.

Similar to Kindle, iBooks allows its' users to download and read books from rather large and classic selection of materials. Students can also bookmark or add notes to their favorite passages and share their thoughts with others via social media. Second to that, students can print off PDF documents and the notes they took on their reading via AirPrint.
Positive Review
iBooks offers a reader that's the closest thing to a real book, especially for those that are page turners. It works flawlessly on my IPad and syncing of IOS devices is a pleasure! It has been amazing for our son who is three years old. We have an entire library for him anytime anywhere.
Negative Review
First time I went back into my library from the book I was reading after the change, I thought the iBooks app was glitching and stopped displaying the bookshelf background. A bit of googling later I discovered that this was the 'new design'. Not really sure if you can even call it a design as it's just mainly white with a dash of gray gradient. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be taken out back and shot. If you're going to do something this drastic to an app a lot of us have grown to love, at least give people the option to revert back to the old theme.

If your students need extra support in phonics, this app will get their brains moving. Each letter is coupled with a matching phonetic photo that helps your student break down the words into sizeable sounds and chunks. It can be used on a solitary basis or in large classroom practice.
Positive Review
I highly recommend these apps! I have a 3.5 year old boy who now knows all his letter sounds, all his numbers and we are on to blending words now! So cool! My one fear... that he will be bored in 4K. Thanks for the great and easy to use apps!
Negative Review
I am a first grade teacher and I thought this was a good ap. Especially for struggling students or preschoolers. As for the previous review about fox for x... You don't hear the / x / sound at the beginning of any words in English. It only is heard at the end of a word or syllable.

Originally part of a PhD research project, The Adventures of Billy Possum is a notable story adapted from the book “The Adventures of Unc' Billy Possum.” Throughout each of the twenty-five chapters, the emphasis is placed on strategies that support the understanding of literal and inferential meanings, predictions, visualization, and sequencing. It is definitely worth a gander if you are looking for classroom reading enrichment in the early reading levels.

An app that is an excellent choice for grades K-5! Grammar Jammers showcases catchy animated songs and rhymes that strive to make language arts fun and exciting. Each animation unlocks a quiz. If the student answers all the quiz questions correctly then they can unlock an interactive reward. Consider it another items to put in your enrichment toolbox.
Positive Review
I was looking for adult grammar games and I came across this fun looking app. Although I am not a kid I had such fun learning about grammar! This would be excellent game for teachers and parents who want to help their kids with their English homework. The songs are great and are actually in tune with what kids listen to now. When I was this age educational videos still sounded like nursery rhymes even though I was in 5th grade and too old for that! Keep up the good work and I would love to see what you can do with other subjects as well as for older kids. Heck, I'd like to see an adult version!
Negative Review
As a school based speech language pathologist, I enjoy most of the short video clips and song to help get the kids engaged. The puppets are a bit too cutesy. A full feature iPad version of this would be good along with multiple questions for a small group of 4 kids. It has great potential from improvement.

Handwriting practice can be tedious for even your most diligent student. Handwriting Without Tears helps children learn and practice the correct formation of letters in the easiest and most efficient way. If you are already using this curriculum the app simulates the slate chalkboard techniques that they are already being used in the classroom giving the students the continuity they need to get the job done well.

have been using this app with my 5yo son to help him learn how to write his letters and numbers. I thought it was a great app, at first. He would sometimes get frustrated b/c it could be a little finicky, but it did force him to trace the letter correctly each time. The main problem we've encountered is the motivational tool they use. The app uses 'picture cards' that the child earns by tracing the letter 9 times (in 3 sets of 3). My son really liked going in each time and seeing all of the picture cards he had earned. It was a visual measure of all he had accomplished. However, I can't tell you how many times this app has randomly reset itself and deleted all of my son's progress and picture cards. He gets so upset when he opens the app and sees that all of his picture cards (that he earned!) have just vanished. What good is a reward if it can just repeatedly vanish on the kid at any time? Customer service has been useless. They haven't even acknowledged my emails. It happened yet AGAIN yesterday after my son had earned 15 picture cards. He opened the app and it was like he had never used it before. He was so upset. So we are done with this app. Save yourself and your child the time and frustration. Do not buy this.

Zoom: Get your students excited to learn with Motion Math's zoomable (and stretchable!) number line. Each line is missing a few numbers and it is up to the players to put the numbers back in order. The newest game features animals to represent abstract numbers such as dinosaurs in the thousands and amoebas in the thousandths.
Positive Review
Kids LOVE figuring out how this works; the game is terrific, giving prompts or clues if you're not catching on, either with the super-simple tilting control technique, or with the actual math--it gives you hints about the answers. Everyone who picks this up gets addicted. Also check out Motion Math Zoom--the sequel--free, but the full game is an in-app upgrade. I'd prefer that developers offer a lite version and a full version, so you know the costs up front. This is still worth it.
Negative Review
Updated to include locking of sections and in-app ads.Not what was originally downloaded. Will avoid this company in future.

My son needed a review app where he could increase his fluency after summer break. This app was great for that! He had a blast (pun intended) and increased his fluency and speed considerably.
Negative Review
Bought this as a item students to use on their iPads. This app FAILS. You can't choose sets of numbers to work on. You have to know the entire set to play the game. They should have made add, subtract, multiply and divide where you could choose numbers 1-12 you could work on.The colors and sound are good, but as a learning tool for the basics nope

As each student solves their own problem, they work in virtual groups of friends to bounce ideas off of while learning from their mistakes. All the programming is also in line with Common Core Standards.

It’s a little glitchy still and tends to shut me out of the app frequently as it’s compressing audio or as I’m recording, and the pen is hard to use. However I think this tech is revolutionary and if it were improved it would be an amazing app used across school districts everywhere.

This handy app is essentially a toolkit that can give your children quick and easy access to manipulatives commonly used in the classroom. (Think everything from number lines to multiplication tables!) The app also provides students with a “Thinking Journal” which helps students plot out their problem solving skills step-by-step. The Thinking Journal can then be printed off or sent via email to a parent or teacher.

Mathpad allows children to create documents with mathematical expressions using a special keyboard. As a teacher, you are able to create documents in MathPad that will automatically align the mathematical expressions according to its content. Students can send and receive documents from other MathPad users or print and email documents for in class or at home use.
Positive Review
I just completed a degree in mathematics and this app would have been great! It's fantastic at recognizing hand writing, and can solve some fairly complex equations. I only wish I had it sooner!

If the developers want to charge for saving 'MultiDocs' they can-- but exporting should be standard. Unfortunately if I want to clip my notes to another app I need to buy the 'MultiDocs'. MultiDocs is marketed as a 'module' but the app is useless without it. This isn't a 'free' version, it's a trial in disguise. And maybe that could be forgiven if the app wasn't ugly, slow, confusing and crash-ridden. Of particular note is the use of weird icons. Is that the share icon? I dunno, looks like the old iOS 6 one… kinda? What does the folder icon do? Dunno, I need 'MultiDocs'. You have to toggle between two keyboards and the backspace doesn't go back and… ugh.

My 8 year old had a movie reward waiting upon completion of her homework. Her homework had similar block models. I opened the app. to show the similarity. She proceeded to work problems on both the app and her homework, then switched fully to the app when her homework was done. The ScratchWork app can actually be used in a variety of classroom settings. Its' main focus is to allow its user to take notes while browsing the web via a split screen set-up. What makes ScratchWork excellent for the math class is its' custom built math keyboard which allows students to take notes and make computations while a textbook or reference page is open. Students can then save their work or email their notes with the corresponding pages.

Google maps is the one to have - far more accurate maps especially if you are outside USA. Latest updates have a lot of clicks to get to navigation. Also latest update now crashes intermittently. Blank white screen with little blue arrow. Unresponsive! Can't send feedback via ap as it's crashed. Can delete and reinstall but have done this twice in last 2weeks. Waiting on new update!

Video Science is less of an app and more of a video library. The app contains over eight demonstrations of hands-on experiments and scientific concepts. All the video demonstrations are hosted by Dan Menelly, a science teacher at the UN International School. The app can be hooked up to a monitor and used to open up a lesson of similar interest or that delves into the same topic. The best news? All the experiments are inexpensive and easy to recreate!
Positive Review
Though I'm a only one korean student in my school, it helps me to study more about science. Of course english is still hard to me..... Yet every video is perfectly playing so i'm very glad to meet this app
Negative Review
Careful here! Nice videos with some fun content for teaching without the mess, but at the end of each video the screen goes black and you cannot get out of the app to view other videos. You must delete the app and reinstall it to view another video OR be sure to stop the video before the screen goes black at the end.

History Line is an excellent learning game for US History teachers. The app depends on collaboration so your students can work together to review material they are covering in class. For each round players connect via Bluetooth and compete against one another to get their history events in the right order on the timeline. Students can also take the game home and play against themselves for a fun review.
Positive Review
Very good app, except it won't let you go back to the regular page, it makes you finish the timeline that's the only problem I had with this app, otherwise it's a great app.

If you are looking for a way to spice up your lesson on periodic elements look no further than the Nova app which gives students an interactive periodic table to play with as well as a game hosted by David Pogue. The app also includes a two-hour NOVA program titled “Hunting the Elements.”
Positive Review
This app is great for people who need a education or need to know about the elements. I feel like why do teachers not use this when they are teaching science or social studies so the kids get to no more about the elements. But I also think he should talk more about the gold because he only talked about it of ten minutes. He also makes learning fun for kids to learn and actually pay attention instead of passing notes or talking and telling jokes and some kids think about some of them a bit to wrong. So if I were you I would let tryout child watch this

It's an amazing RPG that combines gameplay to story telling i think this game would be better with sniper rifles or advertisements.

This product has never risen above mediocre. Now it isn't even that good. Displaying the document's text - the most important function for an app about a single document - simply fails to work much of the time.

This is an excellent app. It's perfect for creating and reading books that you made. When you start out, it gives you the choice to read 4 different classic books to give you am idea on how the app works and what you can do on it, you can choose to read, edit or share, so if you don't like one part in the book, you can edit it! Want to create your own book? Well, this app is the perfect start. First you pick a title, then you can make your own design your own photo for the page and then you write! This app is so easy to understand and get the hang of. I love this app and it is a great way to spend your time making books. It's so exciting to make your own books. The only thing that I would change is that the app could use a little bit of an upgrade and it is a little slow. That does not change my opinion on the app though, I still highly recommend this app.

Idea Sketch lets students and adults easily draw diagrams, mind maps, concept maps, or flow charts and then convert them into a text outline. Teachers can encourage children to use Idea Sketch to brainstorm new ideas as well as illustrate concepts they are learning about in class.
Positive Review
This app centers on a great concept. It is easy to use and multiple diagrams/flowcharts can be saved at a time; I use it often while studying. It could be improved, though, as once a chart reaches a certain size, the app begins to lag considerably. With continued improvement, this app could easily become one of the best of its kind on the market.

Awesome I love this. It's so simple, but really does create 3d images. Seen through Cardboard, they are spectacular. Bravo.
Negative Review
Long way to go While trying to capture in normal conditions(holding with hands, subjected to slight jitter), the capture time is about a fraction of a second which is impossible to compose anything. Then I tried capturing in controlled environment(using equipment; little to no jitter). Capture time was higher, but there were weird anomalies while tilting the picture, making it unusable. HTC Duo camera's 3D effect does a much better job, but it also uses an additional depth sensor.

I thoroughly enjoy this app on my iPad. It allows me to work with a variety of images, from photos to drawings, illustrations, and just about anything I need to work with, and it allows it wherever I go. I am moving more and more of my artwork to platforms that allow me portability as I don't like to be stuck indoors with just one desktop machine. I also like the logical way this app is laid out. I have no complaints, and hope that it keeps improving. I find it useful enough to motivate me to upgrade my subscription to other Adobe software using creative cloud and Adobe's plethora of apps
Negative Review
Has all the editing features I need but doesn't do me any good if I can find the saved edited pictures. They don't seen to reside on the phone. I don't use the cloud and just want the edited pictures to show in the gallery so I can download them to the computer or show them to friends on the phone. I believe this app is just a gimmick to promote use of the Adobe Cloud.

I really love this app. Just recently I discovered that there were even more FX and so I downloaded all of them. I do realize that you guys are being extremely generous to the ones who can't buy music but then again a lot of the songs that you provide for us I buy you a random you tubers. Maybe try at least using a few that you hear on the radio. Or maybe create something where if you build up a lot of points you can buy songs using the points you saved. I haven't had many problems with this app. But, whenever I try to rewind a video, I either pass the place I wanted it or it freezes. One thing I would like is to make scrubbing easier or add a rewind button to make going back in a video easier.Another thing I would like added is a 'continue playing in background' or 'play while locked' option. I like listening to music on the app. But, when I want to lock my phone, it stops the music and I have to keep the app unlocked and open at all times. It's really annoying when I don't want my phone on in my pocket, but I want to listen to music with my headphones. Please make it possible to keep videos and music playing after locking the phone or going into multitasking. It would really help me and a lot of other people who are probably having the same problem.I would rate 4.5, but 4 is all I can currently give. Thank you if you read this review and please consider adding the suggested items to your update list. Then it will be worth a full five stars

Flipboard is a great news aggregating app. It somehow compiles the news you read most and prefer and presents you primarily with that information. There were two times I was about to write and email to the Flipboard team with some suggestions. The first was when there were tons of posts about weddings, despite the fact that I do not follow anything related to weddings and the other was when I was seeing a lot of those 'x things you don't know about your favorite _____' types of garbage articles. I wanted to write figure out how to ignore the former and request a flat out ban of the latter. However I also tend to be very lazy and never did either. Instead, I kept using the app and ignored those articles. Eventually, the app stopped showing me those articles on its own. I'm very happy with their system to determine what you read the most.

Coding doesn't have to be a dusty subject. Students can make Daisy the Dinosaur dance using simple and basic code. The app is free and allows children to drag and drop “code blocks” to create a one-of-a-kind dance routine for their friend.
Positive Review
Daisy the dinosaur is a great intro to programming to pique kids' interests on the subject. My daughter was playing around with Daisy and making the dinosaur do all kinds of things. It made her hungry to learn more. She was only disappointed there were not more options for tricks and it is more of an intro to programming than something that can challenge her long-term. I am taking software engineering courses and although this doesn't expose kids to much language important for programming, it lays the foundation and visually reinforces what the program is doing when tested.
Negative Review

While not specifically designed for classrooms, Evernote could certainly help students with note taking and organization. The app allows the users to write notes of all types, mark interesting research, or save Internet searches which can then be accessed on any compatible device. Students can literally store their articles, handwritten notes, and photos in one place for easy retrieval.
Positive Review
Great! Does the job, could do with better syncing when open on other devices can take a while to catch up to ongoing changes. Also had problems when collaborating on note in real-time!
Negative Review
Worthless app. I downloaded it, but the icon only takes me to a screen showing my notes. In order to make new note have to go to the app store and download it again. It works okay on my laptop and my other tablet. I had bad experiences with it in past and I uninstalled it. I thought it maybe it would be better the second time around. Silly me.

Over twelve million people use Pocket to save articles and videos for later viewing. With this app, students can pull all their research content into one place for easy storage. They can save anything from articles to videos, recipes, or web pages.
Positive Review
Good but have some issues I use it very much to save content and read those contents later. One problem is that it just doesn't capture the content as I am seeing anywhere. So, sometime I miss some things from the saved content. Or sometime it just shows advertisements although I may have those ads blocked in the real content when I saved. Otherwise a very good app.

Your students no longer have to worry about “spreading out” their ideas with the Corkulous app. This multi-purpose program contains virtual cork boards where students can place notes, labels, photos, contacts, and tasks. They can then group their ideas visually or spread the ideas out across multiple boards. With iCloud support, their boards can be accessed from almost any Internet portal.

This app works the way a notes app should. It's super simple to use and it's easy on the eyes, so jotting a quick note does not require a complicated bunch of steps. AND, once you stick your note to your board, you can easily access it on your partner iDevice (or DropBox, even!).

Positive Review
Dropbox is great for saving anything you could ever want in the cloud. The app is done well and allows you to perform most action you would want. I'm happy to finally be able to rename files and folders. The only additional feature on my wish list is to view deleted files like you can on a website
Negative Review
would be great if it didn't rename files when uploading. It's also inconsistent in how it does so. For example, if I upload a photo from within the app, it gets called 'photo' plus the date plus a '.jpg' extension, but if I upload the same photo via the Dropbox plugin to Photos app, it gets called 'file' plus the date plus a '.jpeg' extension. The file name should be the same as whatever it is on the iPhone without being changed by Dropbox one way or the other. The file properties (creation date, etc.) should likewise not be changed.

The TuneTrain is coming to town and we must admit- it's awesome. Students can quickly create and edit melodies through this interactive app. But the learning doesn't stop there as everything about this app is adjusted to teach children about musical relationships and rules. The more the students explore- the more they will independently learn!
Positive Review
This app teaches children music theory through a fun game. The child draws a path for a train to travel on a track that goes up and down (it's a music staff, and you can either show the staff above the train track or just the track). After choosing the path the train takes, the tune is played. In this way, the child intuitively can easily understand music composition. It's an excellent way for teaching the beauty of music and music theory, while letting the child compose. When my granddaughter was 4 she enjoyed the game for short over idols, but now at age 5 she really enjoys it.

Adobe Reader has been a trusted leader in PDF viewing for years. If you are already using Adobe Reader, streamline your file sharing process with the app. Students will be able to quickly read PDF materials from email or other user sharing applications.

Better than most other READERS . Adobe wrote the book on PDF format essentially. For the user that could do no more than bubbles and highlighting and griping about getting ripped off -- get Adobe READER and some reading glasses. If you need a PDF writer or editor, be prepared to spend more than FREE $ and more than $200. @Kurt, PDF formats were designed to keep a document somewhat secure (editors aren't cheap, original can be saved as passworded, Notepad can't be used on the fly).

Brainpop is a great app I'm general but it is extremely frustrating that they don't support landscape mode on Android devices, but they do on iOS. In mu iPhone 4 the app was remembering all of my work, but after the update it began to forget my progress for the first time (which the update said it was meant to fix). Thanks for your work, i look forward to your updates soon.

I love Khan Academy. Don't let my review impact your view of their service or educational experience. But the app is basically crippled. None of the tabs work at all. You can get to videos and lessons but you have to do so manually. Navigating anything via your profile or other than the main page simply doesn't work. It appears that they are aware of the issues but until they are addressed, I can't recommend this app. We have simple created a shortcut icon to the website which works fine. We use that instead and bypass the app completely.

BEWARE $$ TRAP/GREEDY DEVS This was an excellent dictionary app until the greedy devs started charging for stuff that would normally be free in just about any other dictionary

Missing important math content Omits the narrative text at the beginning of each grade level, which contains important content beyond the itemized standards.

My favorite reader/emag. It just seems to find more things than any other app, that actually interest me. When I was thinking about getting a Nexus 7 up popped an article about $50 off the 32 gb version.this was right after they came out. It was just a coincidence ( or was it?) but I did save$50 on a great device. Great hiking, backpacking, tech and odd articles plus all the usual stuff. Try it out.
Negative Review
The app hangs often when reading articlesWhen reading an article I can't scroll at times (not sure it is because art is enabled on my device ie nexus 7 2013) the page seems stuck though app is not hung, hitting back takes me to main page again

Collaborate with other teachers using the iBrainstorm app. With a flick of the finger, send information, projects, and notes to your colleagues' iPads. The iPad canvas can also serve as a drawing board that can be erased or captured for later use.

works, technically, but feels flawed as lines are slow to draw and the app has an air of being incomplete. Nice idea.

Brushes is a painting app with a smooth and responsive touch. The app will also record every step in your painting so that students can show off their creative process when they are done. Paintings can be saved and shared!

Positive Review
I love this app; it's been the only one to survive my rampant search for a good drawing app. Brushes is good not only for painting but also for sketching and inking! It has a very simple interface which I like; that makes it easy (at least for me) to jump right in and start drawing. Transferring a painting to your computer is quick and easy. But if you need to make a selection of a certain space, you're out of luck, at least I'm pretty sure--this app lacks a manual of some sort, which can be frustrating. In brief, this app scores a 4/5 for allowing even beginners to jump straight into drawing, but lacking in other features.
Negative Review
I have used this app to teach students for the past two years and ever since I upgraded to the Apple OS 8.1.3 the Brushes app no longer lets me save/open started projects. I love this app and use it to teach art and I no longer can use it because I can't save and reopen work. Apple is of no use because they just ask if the app opens and then they stop caring. I also have lost major functionally on the app iMotion, both free and paid versions. Deleting and reinstalling does no good. These apps stopped working right after the OS update. My iPad 2 though old worked fine and now thanks to Apple they were rendering virtually useless for my teaching!

A little more abstract in nature- but still very cool- the Field app is an audiovisual work that generates items through real-time camera input. Brightness and saturation are interpreted and translated into a constructed grid that will play a sound. Students will find themselves intrigued and captivated by this amazing app.

I am happy with the frame making. But everything else is lacking.Suggested improvements: at least basic colors, color filler (like the paint bucket), improve brushing, add selections (drag a box to select anything inside, or selections by color), moving/translating tools to work with selections, erasing by selection, remove stroke/brush eraser, zoom, copy/paste, scale tool (suggest selection tool, pinch to scale) rotate tool (suggest selection tool, spin two fingers to rotate).

If your students are looking how to sketch, this app could be a real winner. ASKetch is a simple black and white procedural sketching program created by Andrew Kern. It brings the experience to charcoal drawing right to their iPad which is brilliant for both beginners and advanced artists.
