Situated 12 kilometers from Ernakulam railway station, Kochi, the SCMS Cochin School of Business was established in 1976 by Dr. G. P. C. Nayar, with financial support from the Prathap Foundation for Education and Training. Formerly known as School of Communication and Management Studies, SCMS Cochin school of Business is approved by AICTE, accredited by NBA and ACBSP. The institute offers full time courses in PGDM (General Management), PGDM (Retailing and Merchandising) and a part time three year PGDM Program.

About the PGDM Program

Spanning over 2 years (including 90 days of project work in the fourth trimester) and 6 trimesters, The Post Graduate Diploma in Management course promises a rigorous and all round development for aspirant managers. The first three trimesters focus entirely on imparting core management knowledge, the fourth trimester is constituted by the final project and in the fifth and sixth trimester, students study subjects pertaining to the specialization opted by them. The institute offers dual specialization with Marketing Management being compulsory. The students are free to choose any one of the following as their second specialization (subject to minimum of 45 students opting for the same):

• Human Resources
• Advertising
• Finance
• Banking and Insurance
• Retailing and Merchandising
• Wealth Management

The number of seats available are: 180 (general course), 60 (Retail and Merchandising), 60 (Banking and Insurance)

Eligibility

Admission aspirants must have completed their graduation with at least 50% aggregate marks. They should also possess a valid score CAT/MAT/ATMA/MAT. For the PGDM (general), the candidate must have secured at least 60% percentile to be eligible for admission while for PGDM (R&M) and PGDM (B&I), the minimum required percentile us 50%.

The seat allocation as per different entrance tests is as follows:

CAT       -   60 seats

CMAT   -   100 seats

MAT       - 120 seats

ATMA   -   20 seats

Admission Procedure

The admission is granted on the basis of a comprehensive evaluation of all the applicants in terms of marks obtained in graduation, performance in the entrance test and their appraisal through the Group Discussion round and Personal Interview round conducted by the institution. The weightage given to each evaluation criterion is as follows:

Fees Structure

The fees for pursuing the two year PGDM Program at SCMS is Rs.95,000 per trimester. Housing and Lodging cost for the hostel tends to be around Rs.5,000 per month.

SCMS has an independent Placement Cell with a Placement Officer and student representatives to help him/her. The campus is visited by a number of companies annually. The list includes the likes of Airtel, Deloitte, HDFC Bank, SBI Life, IDBI Bank, Wipro, KPMG, LG, Mahindra Finance, Reliance Money, Blue Star, Asian Paints, ICICI Securities, Vodafone, Hawkins, HCL and so on

The average package secured by students at SCMS tends to be around Rs.5 lakhs per annum while the highest package secured has been Rs.6.6 lakhs per annum.

Campus Facilities

The SCMS Library, spread over 6,732 square feet, boasts of an extensive collection of 22,701 books. The three computer labs at SCMS are equipped with over 400 systems and the campus if Wi-Fi enabled. The smart classrooms in the institute make use of all the modern audio-visual tools of teaching.

Hostel Facilities

Separate hostel facilities are available for boys and girls. Both AC and non-AC accommodation is available. The two boys’ hostels have a combined capacity of 325.

Scholarships

The institute awards a scholarship to the extent of 40% of tuition fees to students with more than two years of work experience.

Life at College

• Parivarthana

Parivarthana is an initiative by SCMS group of institutions organized annually. It’s a month long campaign aimed at disseminating social awareness among school children.

• Events

SCMS hosts a number of events during a session. ‘Humane’ and ‘Finesse’ are two national level conferences hosted by SCMS with the former focusing on Talent Management and the latter on economic growth.
