His Holiness Sankaracharya Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Mahaswamigal had the vision of reviving the Gatikasthana (traditional University of Kanchi as Nalanda in the north) through modern temples of learning. In addition to a number of Patasalas (Vedic Schools) run by Sri Sankara Mutt, the first of its kind being SRI SANKARA ARTS & SCIENCE COLLEGE, founded to provide quality higher education to the rural folk and to promote among the youth,the highest and loftiest ideals that constitute the essence of our culture.
Since its inception in 1991, the college has seen phenomenal and qualitative growth. Affiliated to the University of Madras, it offers select undergraduate and postgraduate courses with premier faculty in first-rate scholarly and research environments. The College got ISO 9001-2000 certification in 2008 and soon to get Quality NAAC Accreditation. The College is recognized under the UGC Section 2f of 1956.
Recent additions have been the sophisticated IT Lab consisting of 150 Computers, three Servers with Windows and Multimedia, internet and web facilities, Biotechnology laboratory with imported instruments at the cost of RS.1crore, and the proposed M.B.A. Program with all the latest facilities.
Vision
The founder of our college, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Sankaracharya is a great visionary who visualized the improvement of the educational standards of this area, by making this Institution the epicenter of development by providing affordable education to the masses. With a vision to revive the scholarship and research existed in the hoary past in the Kanchi Gatikasthana, the Swamiji also envisaged an ambitious future for this institution in keeping abreast with the scientific and technological developments and social changes. Kanchipuram, a temple city, one of the seven heavenly abodes in India, is surrounded by socially and economically backward villages and the people of these villages are depending upon agriculture and weaving.
Mission
Hence the college takes up on itself the two-fold responsibility of achieving individual and collective development of the population as a whole on the one hand, and of securing the educational advancement of the backward and marginalized sections of the community on the other. National Development is envisioned through the upliftment of the society in the backward villages of this district by imparting knowledge and inculcating values - moral, culture and ethical, to mould responsible citizens with merit and caliber, discipline, dedication and devotion.
The College aims at delivering quality education for the integrated development of the personality of each and every individual student entrusted to its care. The proper integration of theoretical and practical training which the University education envisaged is modulated by moral values so that a homogeneous society upholding faith in God, democratic values, service attitude, and dignity of the human individual along with transformation of the society as a whole with emphasis on solidarity and brotherhood of man.

Eligibility
To pursue MBA at SANKARA students must satisfy following eligibility criteria.
The minimum qualification to apply for admission to the MBA Program is a Bachelor's Degree (10+2+3 years of education) in any discipline which is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, or any degree equivalent to the Bachelor's Degree, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the Secondary / Higher Secondary / Pre-degree Examinations (or equivalent) conducted by a Board / University.
Those appearing for the final year of the Bachelor's degree examinations may also apply subject to completing their examinations or viva-voce, if any, before June 30. Such candidates will however have to fulfil the above eligibility requirements in respect of minimum academic qualifications for admission and furnish evidence to that effect latest by October 31. At the time of interview and/or admissions, they will be required to produce a letter from their College Principal / Head of Institution stating the exam dates.
Candidates with appropriate industry experience will be given preference for admissions. Their work experience will be given due weightage in terms of the organization, position held and duration.
Admission Procedure
Selected candidates will be called to attend Group Discussions and Personal Interviews. Multiple Group Discussion & Personal Interview lists will be released in phases, both before and after the Application Deadline. The intimation for interview & group discussion is done through registered post and e-mail. In the case of some programs, Group Discussion may not be conducted, in favor of a rigorous interview process.
The selection criteria for calling candidates for admissions is based on multiple factors as follows:
- Past academic performance
- Quality & content of the answers in the application form
- Work experience, if any , in terms of job content & organization
- Group Discussion & Interview performance (applicable for final admissions only)
- Extra curricular activities, other interests & accomplishments
- Competitive Test score (CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT)
A combination of all the above factors are used to determine the eligibility of candidates to be offered final admission. Test scores are NOT the only criteria for selection.
A high test score does not guarantee a call for Group Discussion/Interview. The selection criteria are based on multiple factors as mentioned above.
