VELS Universitywas established in1992 by Vel's Educational Trust which was founded by Dr. Ishari K Ganesh. It was formerly known as the VELS Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies. It is currently a part of the VELS Group of Institutes.VELS University, Chennai attained its 'University Status' in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India. The University aims at innovative syllabi and constantly improving the existing courses. The revision is initiated by the faculty, depending on the requirement and approved by the Board of Studies of the concerned school or department.
