Institute of Jute Technology was founded on 10th March, 1951, jointly by the University of Calcutta and Indian Jute Mill’s Association (IJMA) on a piece of land of the University of Calcutta donated by Tarak Nath Palit Trustto provide education and training to fulfill the needs of manpower in jute sector.
Institute has been renamed as Department of Jute and Fibre Technology, Institute of Jute Technology, University of Calcutta.It receives fund from various govt. agencies to carry out various projects.Institute is approved by AICTE, New Delhi.It promote R&D activities.
The college has highly qualified and experienced faculty members.
