School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, (in short SPAV), was established on July 7, 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, as an autonomous institution. SPAV is a premier Centrally Funded Technical Institution (CFTI) directly under the MHRD, for excellence in the fields of Planning and Architecture. Although in its nascent stage, with experienced faculty and guest lectures by eminent visiting faculty and industry experts from all over the country, the quality of education imparted and its focus on research puts SPAV in the league of leading institutes in the country.
At SPAV, the academic focus and approach is a unique blend of design, creativity and objectivity with a social purpose. Students not only learn the skills required, but during the course of studies are exposed to though-provoking and intellectually inspiring sessions, through studios, field trips and research projects, which brings out the creative best in them.
Eligibility: for Full-Time PhD: Masters degree in Architecture or Masters degree in Planning (all disciplines of Planning offered by Planning Schools in India) with minimum of 55% aggregate marks (OR) Masters degree in allied disciplines from any recognized University/Institution with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
Eligibility: for Part-Time PhD: Candidates shall be viewed under two categories:
(i) Part-Time (Inhouse): Faculty of the School
(ii) Part-Time (Others): Faculty/Professionals from other institutes.
In addition to the above eligibility requirement as mentioned for Full-Time PhD candidates, for Part-Time (Others) should have an additional work experience of minimum three years over that specified above.
Candidates applying for Part-Time categories should have at least one paper publication in peer reviewed journal of international standards and must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his/her employer.
Admission Procedure: The selection of both Full-Time and Part-Time PhD candidates will be through an entrance examination/written test, interview and an open presentation conducted by the School. The successful candidates will then be provisionally admitted. However, the registration of the provisionally admitted scholar shall be subject to the successful completion of the coursework offered during the Pre-PhD.
