University of Calicut was established in 1968 in Malappuram, Kerala. It is the largest university in Kerala and it is approved by UGC. The university has close to 350 colleges affiliated to it. The university has 35 departments.
School of distance Education
University of Calicut offers distance education program through School of Distance Education which was established in 1981-82. It is a major distance education provider in Kerala and other parts of the country.
The total number of programs offered by the university are 26. These are divided into 14 Under-Graduate and 12 Post-Graduate programs. Annually around 50,000 students get admitted into various distance programs offered by the university.
The courses offered by the university have following distinguishing features –
- Syllabus and Course material is available online and offline
- There is a single exam for regular and distance education students. This helps in bringing a unification in quality of the testing process and courses content.
- Choice Based Credit Semester System (CCSS) & CUCBCSS

- Online Course Material – All the course material needed for the course is offered by the university online and also in print format. This brings a lot of flexibility to the course.
- Online Question Bank – To make the process of learning and revising easier, university has made the question bank available online. The students can practice the question after studying relevant concepts and test their understanding.
- Work with Worker Program – The university also offers a Work with Worker program. This helps them apply the concepts in practical settings.
- Single exam for Regular and Distance courses – Single exam is conducted for both regular and distance students. This improves the quality of learning for distance course students.
Calicut University Distance Education Admission Process 2019
The university of Calicut offers 14 under-graduate and 12 post-graduate distance education courses. Bachelor’s and master’s degree courses are offered in arts, commerce, science streams. University also offer BBA course.
STEP 1 – Application Form
Students can apply for a distance course online at www.sdeuoc.ac.in/OnlineRegistration or through the University
website www.uoc.ac.in/ DistanceEducation/OnlineRegistration. Once registered, students need to take the printout of the application form.
Application Procedure
- Submit the application form online
- Pay the application, admission fees and other charges applicable
- Go to university website
- Click on the admission link
- Fill out the form and submit it
- Print the complete form
- Send the print out of the application form along with the Challan and 3 passport size photographs to Director, School of Distance Education, University of Calicut, Calicut University, PO, Pin 673635
STEP 2 – Submit Application form with Documents
Students need to send documents for eligibility verification to the university. The required documents are –
- Original Transfer Certificate
- Admission Fee Receipt
- Receipt of Matriculation form fee
- Self-attested copy of first page of SSC certificate
- 12th mark-sheet or certificate
- 2 self-attested copies of 12th mark-sheet
- 5 self addressed envelopes.
For BA/Bcom (Open Stream)
- Proof that student has cleared the entrance exam
- Date of Birth certificate
- Chalan receipt/DD for tuition fee
- Self addressed stamped cover 3 Nos.
- Additional certificate are required for SC/ST candidates.
For PG Courses
- Transfer certificate
- Provisional certificate or Degree certificate
- Mark lists of qualifying exam
- 3 Self-attested envelops
- Chalan receipt/DD for tuition fee
The application form has to be filled up online and then sent through courier or post to university office along with necessary documents.
SPOT Admissions
Students can also seek spot admissions by visiting university campus with their original documents. After paying Rs.60/-, the documents are verified and returned to the student. If verification is successful, the student will be offered admission on the spot.
STEP 3 – Application and Course Fee
Application fee for the PG courses is Rs.200/- and the admission fee is Rs.250/- More details of the various other charges are given below –

- Demand Draft – The payment towards the tuition fee can be made through DD and a copy of the DD should be sent along with the application form.
- Online Payment – All the payments need to be made by Challan at the university. Outstation students can pay through the DD or through Indian Postal Orders. The DD should be drawn in favour of Finance Officer, University of Calicut, payable at S.B.T Calicut University Branch (Code 200). STEP 4 – Admission Confirmation and ID Card Distribution
Once the admission is confirmed, students will be issued ID card carrying their Enrollment Number, and Contact Class Centre. These can be downloaded online from university website.

The fee for the distance courses need to be paid by the challan. The original receipt of the challan need to be sent to School of Distance Education. Student residing outside of the state of Kerala can also send the DD drawn in favor of “Finance Officer, University of Calicut”, payable at S.B.T Calicut University Branch (Code 200).
Indian postal orders too are accepted. Other modes of payments like Money Orders, Cheque, and Cash are not accepted.
Fees can also be by direct remittance at the fee collection counter (TAGORE NIKETAN) of the University.
Eligibility Criteria
All students applying to PG courses must have completed a degree from a recognized university in India. The minimum percentage required at graduate is 50% including languages. OBC/OEC candidates are eligible to relaxation up to 5%. SC/ST candidates need only to get a pass.
Students seeking admissions from other universities need to produce Equivalency/Recognition certificate of the qualifying examinations.

Distance MBA
University is one of the leading providers of distance mba in Kerala.
University of Calicut Distance MBA Program – The University started offering its distance MBA program in 2012. The program goes on for 4 semesters.
The university intends to admit more than 1000 students every year to its Distance MBA program. The program caters to students from Kerala and Gulf countries while it is slowly becoming popular in other parts of the country too. There are 5 Distance MBA centers –

Department of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Calicut
Students taking admission into the distance MBA program will be assigned to one of the above centers.
Eligibility for admission into Distance MBA program
Students should have passed any degree from University of Calicut or a recognized university from India under 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 pattern. The university must be recognized by UGC or AICTE. The students must have passed the bachelor degree with minimum 50% marks including languages.
Distance MBA admission Procedure
The university conducts its own entrance test CUMAT (SDE) for admission into distance MBA programs. Total number of marks in the exam are 120. The exam tests the candidates understanding in areas like Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English and General Knowledge. Once the results are declared, a merit list will be prepared based on the score and candidates will called for the counselling based on the score.
Distance MBA Course Details
Length of the program is 4 semester with each semester spanning over a course of 16 weeks.
There will be 12 hours of contact classes each semester and students are required to attend at least 50% of theses. If the student fails to attend the contact classes for minimum required duration, she will not be allowed to appear for the exams.
