Distance MBA in Kerala
Kerala is one of the major states of the country and is perhaps one of those states that give a lot of importance to higher education. Institute of Distance Education of the University of Kerala, one of the State run universities offers various distance education courses including the Distance MBA. Similarly, The school of Distance Education, Mahatma Gandhi University also is one of the venerable institutions of the state for distance education courses. It must also be noted that Kerala has a very high number of study centers in the state of the distance education institutes such as the SMU (Sikkim Manipal University), NMIMS, IGNOU, etc.
University of Kerala is approved by both the UGC - Distance Education Council, and is also accredited by the NAAC with a B++ grade, and similarly Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam is also accredited by the NAAC with a B+ grade, is recognized by the UGC – DEC (Distance Education Council) is a member of the AIU, and is also recognized by the bar council of India. The state also has institutes such as the Indian Institute of Knowledge Management (IIKM, Calicut), SMU-DE study centers, which are affiliated to approved universities, and provide study centers for the distance courses.
The candidates applying for the Distance MBA course in the Institute of Distance Education, University of Kerala need to be a graduate from any of the recognized universities (Minimum 3 years course) with a minimum aggregate of 50%. Mahatma Gandhi University also requires its students to be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university.
The total fees at University of Kerala for the Distance MBA course is Rs.30, 000 which can be paid in installments, albeit the examination fee, admission fee, etc. has to be paid separately. The fees can be paid via Demand Draft at any of the branches of SBI in favor of the university. Mahatma Gandhi University on the other hand is relatively inexpensive with fees of only Rs.6, 500 per semester and Rs.1000 for the examination fees.
The University of Kerala offers the classic MBA course and also offers specializations in Human Resource, Finance Management, Marketing etc., which are highly sought after. MGU (Mahatma Gandhi University) offers the general Distance MBA with no specialization, while other institutions in the state provide various choices in specialization for they offer courses from well known universities such as IGNOU, SMU – DE, etc. Thus the specializations offered are ample for the students.
Applicants of the MGU Distance MBA course must contact the nearest study center and obtain the prospectus for a fee of Rs.500 only. The student then needs to register himself online using the secret key provided along with the prospectus. The applicant then needs to print the filled-in form and submit the form to the coordinator of the study center along with the demand draft of the admission fee.
The admission in the university of Kerala follows similar lines and the student is required to obtain the prospectus and application by paying an amount of Rs.250, the student may also apply online.
India Today ranks MGU at 28th in their survey of Indian colleges, and MGU remains to be one of the major universities offering Distance courses in India. Similarly University of Kerala is also highly ranked in the state, and is an indispensable asset to the state.
