Course Structure
IIM Ahmedabad offers a full time one-year Postgraduate Diploma course for executives (PGPX), for students who have completed 27 years of age having a Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent in any discipline. The course is open to executives of all nationalities.
The course primarily is broken down into six sections throughout the year including:
- Induction: Introduction to the course
- Building Blocks: Improving upon the core subjects for the course
- Preparing for Top Management: Differentiating subjects in the PGPX program
- International Immersion: A two week international academic exposure program
- Electives: For specialization in the PGPX program
- Capstone: Business Simulation Exercise
How to Apply?
The admission for every year is done in two admission cycles. To apply for the PGPX course for the academic year of 2016 – 2017, the student must follow the following instructions:
- Register with the GMAT ID on the institution online application website: iimahd.ernet.in/programmes/pgpx
- Complete the application form following the instructions as required on the corresponding site.
- Submit the application form along with the respective fees of the application (Rs3500/- for Round 1, and Rs5000/- for Round 2)
- The application does not require any additional submission of Recommendations or essays.
The candidates are not required to produce any TOEFL/IELTS exam score for English proficiency and a minimum AWA score of 3.5 in the GMAT is considered for the course admission. The students although are not required to submit any recommendations, are required to submit essays whose topics will be announced along with the shortlisting for personal interviews. However, the successful candidate will have to provide 3 references.
Admission Procedure
The institute selects 3 times the admissible number of students for the personal interviews, based on the Total Application Rating (TAR) of the student, which is calculated based on the GMAT Entrance Exam score, Educational qualifications with due consideration to professional degrees, work experience, etc.
After the personal interviews, a final merit list is prepared based on the Personal Interview score, and the TAR score through a confidential method of the admissions committee of the college, to final offer the admission letter. However, the candidate must possess the following qualities for admission into the said course:
- Good GMAT Entrance exam score (Average score range: 695 to 728)
- Good academic background (Professional degrees are also taken into consideration, some students have also had PhD’s)
- Substantial Work experience in supervisory/ managerial role.
- A clear idea of why the candidate prefers IIMA for the PGPX course.
Eligibility Criteria
For admission to the PGPX course at IIMA, the institute prescribes the following basic eligibility criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline (With a minimum of 15 years of education under the 10+2+3/4 education scheme)
- Minimum age of 27 years as of 31st March of the corresponding year, the student applies to the course.
- GMAT score obtained in the last four years of stat of the program (For 2016-2017 course GMAT scores from April 1, 2012 are valid)
Placements
The highest salary offered at IIMA for the PGPX course in the year 2014 is Rs1.1Crore International, and Rs56 Lakhs Domestic. The average domestic salary offered to the course graduates is Rs26, 74, 736/- and the average international salary offered is $144, 040 (Rs87, 86, 440/-). The institute has perhaps one of the best placements in the country, with recruitments from high profile companies such as Google, McKinsey, BCG, Goldman Sachs, Accenture, HCL, KPMG, etc.

The following snapshot from the report shows that for year 2014-15 the maximum domestic salary offered was 55L while international salary was $207K (approximately 1Cr).
Ranking
IIMA is perhaps one of the best institutes in the world for MBA and is ranked 26th among the best institutes worldwide by The Financial Times in its 2015 ranking survey. Additionally, IIMA was 2nd in the “Career Progress Rank”. IIMA has been consistently ranked 1st in the past 5 years by Business World, Business India, Business Today and Outlook.
In FT Global MBA Rankings 2016 PGPX was ranked at 24th position.
Scholarships
Although the institute does not offer any scholarship options with the program fee, the following scholarships have been given after the completion of the program:
- The ITEC Scholarships for Non-Indian Students
- Gold Medal for the top ranked student, additionally the top 5% students get a certificate and cash prize of Rs20, 000/- each
- Arun Duggal award for all round excellence in PGPX, with a cash prize of Rs50, 000/-
- The rising star award of academic merit for PGPX with a cash prize of Rs1, 00, 000/-
- PGPX Social Outreach Award with a certificate and cash prize of Rs1, 00, 000/- shared between a maximum of 2 students.
Fee Structure
The fee for the course will be informed along with the admission offers made in December 2015 for the 2016-2017 course. The current batch has an academic fee of Rs24, 00, 000/- ($38, 000) for the course. The course fee is usually a packaged or bundled fee including tuition, books, accommodation facilities, international immersion, library, alumni, placement, computing and network charges, etc.
