The Himachal Pradesh Combined Aptitude Test ( Hpcmat) is conducted all over India to admit students under Master of Business Administration program for all the universities/Institutions affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University and it is conducted by Institute of Management studies on behalf of Department of Technical Education.

Structure of the exam:

The question paper is divided into four sections with each section comprising of 50 questions and the questions asked would be objective-type i.e. the candidate is required to tick the right option from the options given and would go on for 3 hours. The sections into which the paper is divided are:

  1. English Comprehension
  2. Reasoning
  3. Business environment
  4. Arithmetic comprehension and data interpretation

Eligibility criteria:

The candidate is required to have not attained an age of more than 26 except in the case of NRI’s , foreign national students , sponsered students , serving or retired defence personnel while for SC/ST , there is a relaxation of three years of age in the upper limit. Also, the candidate is required to hold a bachelor’s degree from any recognized University or any examination which equals under the bachelor’s degree from any recognized board or University. The candidate should have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate in case of General category while in the case of SC/ST , the candidate should have secured a minimum of 45% marks in the qualifying examination. The candidates, appearing in the final year can also apply and sit for the entrance test.

How to apply?

The application form along with the prospectus can be obtained by the candidate either through post or through directly at the Institute. The candidate can visit the Institute’s cash counter and can submit Rs.500/- subsidized or none subsidized to obtain the application form and prospectus. In case of SC/ST, the candidate is required to submit Rs.250/- subsidized or none subsidized to obtain prospectus and application form. If the candidate wishes to obtain through post, one could obtain by sending a demand draft in favour of “Director, IMS HP University “, payable at Shimla of Rs.500/- subsidized or non subsidized in case of general category while in the case of SC/ST, one could obtain the form and prospectus by sending a demand draft of Rs.350/- to the following address:

Notification

The official notification for the Himachal Pradesh Management Aptitude Test is yet to be out. It is expected to be out in the first week of April and all the important dates regarding availability of forms , test dates , etc are tentative and are subject to change.

The syllabus for the exam comprises of 200 questions in all with four sections and 50 questions are allotted to each section. It would be an objective-type question paper. The section into which the paper is divided is:

  1. English Comprehension: Candidate would be asked to read the given passage and tick the correct alternative out of the given. The following section helps judge the candidate’s reading ability.
  2. Reasoning: It could be analytical or logical reasoning. Questions could be covered from Visual reasoning , syllogism , functions , coding-decoding , family tree , identifying next number in series , symbol based problems ,sequencing , cause and effects , statements and conclusions , etc.
  3. Business environment
  4. Arithmetic comprehension and date interpretation

Important dates to keep in mind:

  1. Date of notification: April’15
  2. Sale of information handbook: April’15
  3. Last date for receipt of application form in hand: First week of May’15
  4. Last date for receipt of application form by post: Second week of May’15
  5. Date of exam: 24th May’15 (tentative)
  6. Date of result: June’15

Results:

The results would be out in Jun 2015 and students are advised to visit the website regularly to have updates about result and other information. The score is valid for a year.

Distribution of seats:

Any official notification regarding the distribution of seats is yet not out but is expected to be out sometime in April regarding distribution of seats and other information. Generally, seats are distributed among General, SC/ST categories and also course wise. Every course is given different number of seats. The exact number of seats distributed among different categories of caste and according to the course depends upon the respective college. Colleges affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University are only eligible to admit students under HPCMAT and students are then thereby advised to keep a regular check at the respective college’s website to have an idea as to how many seats are allotted per course and how seats are distributed among different categories of caste. The information related to distribution of seats is generally available after the exam takes place.

Counselling schedule:

Counselling takes place after the results are announced. Cut offs are declared by the colleges and a final list is put up declaring the names of shortlisted students who clear the cut off set. After the results are announced, candidates should keep a regular check on the website for cut offs declaration. All the shortlisted students are then invited to attend the counselling session which then takes place at Institute of Management studies which is situated in Shimla and students are then admitted. Cut offs are generally released differently for different categories of students. In 2014, 24.75 was the cut off point for General category while 21.00 was the cut off point for SC and ST category students and 16.75 was the cut off point for physically handicapped, 19.75 for single girl child, 20.00 for non subsidized students, 14.50 for Himachal Pradesh University wards. These points can be taken into consideration and can be used to guess upon the cut off point for 2015.
