IBSAT is a computer based test which is conducted at 100 test centres across India giving the candidate an opportunity to apply at any of the 9 campuses of IBS which are located at Hyderabad , Ahmedabad , Mumbai , Banglore , Pune , Dehradun , Gurgaon , Jaipur and Kolkata.
Structure of ISBAT
The exam would have objective type multiple choice questions and will go on for 2 hours with 125 questions to attempt. The question paper is divided into four sections:
- Verbal ability : 50 questions
- Reading comprehension : 25 questions
- Quantitative aptitude : 25 questions
- Data adequacy and data interpretation : 25 questions
Candidates applying for two year management program must be a graduate in any discipline with 50% and above marks in the qualifying exam with medium of instruction as English and the applicant must have completed 15 years of regular education (10+2+3 or 10+2+4 basis). Candidates, who do not meet the Eligibility criteria of English medium in graduation, are expected to submit their TOEFL/IELTS/NELT score by May 31, 2015.
Candidates applying for PhD program in Management must be a graduate in any discipline with 50% and above marks in the qualifying exam with medium of instruction as English and Post graduation in Management with full time specialization in Marketing / Finance/ Human resource Management / Operations from an UGC approved University with 60% and above marks or a professional qualification like CFA/CA/CWA/CS with 60% marks.
Candidates applying for PhD program in Economics must be a graduate in any discipline with 50% and above marks in the qualifying exam with medium of instruction as English and Post graduation in Economics or an allied discipline with 60% or above marks from an UGC approved University. All applicants must have completed 17 years of regular education (10+2+3+2 or 10+2+4+2 basis) and the candidates not meeting the eligibility criteria of medium of instruction as English must submit their IELTS/TOEFL/NELT score by May 31, 2015.
How to apply?
The application form is common for admission to MBA/PGPM/PhD courses at various centres of IBS. The application form can be purchased by a payment of Rs.1500 either through Online or through any of the marketing offices. To check the marketing branches, you may go through the link for details. After, the results are announced the qualified candidates are invited to follow up the selection procedure. Selection process for ISBAT’14 will be conducted at Hyderabad campus from February 18-26, 2015. The selection process begins with registration followed by Briefing, Group discussion and a personal Interview. The candidates are advised to reach on the allotted time to prevent any kind of hassle.
The notification for the IBSAT’14 for IBS business schools came around in the month of July’14.
The syllabus for IBSAT is divided into four sections and there is no negative marking for incorrect answer. There are going to be 125 questions in all with 2 hours allotted to solve the question paper. The sections into which paper is divided are:
- Verbal ability: 50 questions
The topics that the paper will cover includes Comprehension of passage , Verbal reasoning , syllogism , anatomy , Sentence completion , Mania and phobia , Error rectification , Idioms , Contextual usage , analogies , fill in the blanks , sentence correction ,punctuation , proverbs , one word substitution , Phrasal verb etc.
- Reading comprehension: 25 questions
- Quantitative Ability: 25 questions
Topics that the paper is going to cover would be Geometry , Ratios and proportion , percentage ,equations , quadratic and linear equation , algebra , mensuration , allegation and mixtures , work problems , pipes and cistern , instalment payments , partnerships , clock , probability , permutation and combination , profit and loss , average , time-speed-distance , number system.
- Data Interpretation and Data sufficiency: 25 questions
Questions would be asked from data interpretation based on text, data interpretation based on graphs and tables, statements and conclusion, cause and effects, matrix arrangements. Graphs can be column graphs, bar graphs, pie chart, graphs representing area, Venn diagram.

Distribution of seats:
Each participating IBS has a different cut off and different number of seats available. After the results are announced and cut offs are released one can go through the official websites of different IBS centres and can have a look as to how many seats are available per course in every IBS. However, there is no management and NRI quota in any of the IBS branch. One can also contact them in case of any enquiry regarding allotment of seats and may have a discussion. It is generally advised to look through the number of seats available after the cut offs are released to have a clear insight.
The candidates would be selected for the final admission at the IBS Business School and ICFAI University campus through the ISBAT scores, Group discussion and Personal Interview. The selection procedure will be conducted at IBS Hyderabad campus in the month of February 2015. The ISBAT exam was conducted in a 22 day window; it was a computer based exam after which the results are declared. The result declares the names of the shortlisted candidates on the basis of ISBAT cut off released by the University. After the students are shortlisted, they are called for Group discussion and personal Interview at the IBS Hyderabad campus to judge students in depth. Students are interviewed and are taken into consideration after having judged them in detail. After the interviews are over, the final list is put up and students are selected for admission into the MBA, PhD and PGPM programmes at different IBS centres.
