Thapar University, officially known as ,Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, was set up by Karan Chand Thapar in 1956. It is a collaborative effort between Punjab Technical Education Trust, Central Government and PEPSU. It was given deemed university status in 1985. The university offers BE, ME, MCA, and MSc programs.
In 2018, it was placed at 210th position in Asian Universities by QS World University Rankings. In Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the university was placed at 801-900 position in 2008. The engineering college was ranked in top 10 by India Today in 2017, NIRF 2017 at 26th position, Outlook India at 19th position.
The campus is spread over 250 acres and it plans to start a new campus at Chandigarh over 14 acre land.
The admission to its graduate program is through JEE while for PG programs the students are admitted through GATE.
Application and Admission Procedure
How to Apply?
The interested candidates need to visit www.thapar.edu.in.
Click “Apply Online” and select the program they wish to apply for and read all the instructions carefully. Then click on ‘Apply Now’ button and create a new Account and fill in details in the application form and obtain an unique ID and password for future logins.
Log in to your account and fill up the form by entering required personal details, educational details and uploading the images (recent photograph and signature) and submit the form with the application fee. (Rs 1500For all courses except M.Sc and MA programs and 1000/ for MA and M.Sc programs).
The fee can be paid through various modes like Credit Card/Debit card/Net Banking/ DD. If they choose DD mode then send one copy of duly to fill up form along with DD by post or in person to the below-mentioned address.

Admission procedure
The university accepts JEE Main, NEET scores. The counseling is done on the bases of the ranks secured in the above mentioned examinations.

Campus Facility
Thapar University was founded in the year 1956 and is situated in the vibrant city of Patiala in the state of Punjab. The university is affiliated to University Grants Commission (UGC) and has been approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It has a lush green campus in the area of 250 acres.
All the classrooms are made digitally active and well-equipped laboratories also form a part of this institution. Another infrastructure provided on campus is an auditorium, gymnasium hall, market area, transportation, internet facilities, bank, ATM and a canteen.
The well-stocked library is open 24/7 for the students. It also has a dedicated sports complex and cultural block for the overall development of the students.
Hostel
Thapar University provides separate hostels for girls and boys. Each hostel has single rooms and twin share basis rooms. The rooms are allowed on the basis of the merit of students. Each room consists of a table, chair, cupboard and a bed.
Air conditioners and Air cooler are also provided on demand. Each room has internet facility and a continuous power supply without interruption. It has round the clock security, Hygenic mess, TV room, Sports arena and recreational activities room.

Remarks
When I joined the college had basic facilities but they have kept on adding every year. Do the faculty is a bit on the lower side as compared to the students enrolled.
Entrance Exam
I got it made it into the university based on my bad score where i was scared around 83 percentile. i had to also appear for an interview round. As it is one of the best colleges around i choose this university. Also i had heard a lot about the facilities as well as the infra provided by them.
Fees
The fee of the university is manageable. The overall facilities provided by the college are in par with the fee charged by the university. They charged me around 1.12 lakhs per annum. Also the college offers scholarships to deserving students
Placements
placement the university provide a lot of opportunities and a lot of companies came during the placement season for different courses. The average package that was offered house around 3 to 6 lacs. The package went on to around 8 lacs.
Hostel and Facilities
The hostel is provided by college along with mess facilities. Rooms are provided on sharing as well as single bases with all the basic facilities like almirah, tables, bookshelf, etc
Alumni
I don't think there is any alimni network of the college but the The seniors ahve acted as my lifeline in many situations and saved me. They have provided me with previosu years papers and also helped me a lot through my personal as well as professional difficulties

The faculty of the college is the best i could have asked for. Teachers here are very caring and treat you just like their own child literally. They are frank and joke around us but thats not all they are also strict when it comes to academics and even scold you

I took Punjab CET and got a decent rank. I chose this college because it was one of the best college at that time. Secondly i belonged to Patiala.
Fees
Fee at our time was affordable to common man. It was Rs 36k Sem. But now i heard it has shoot up to 1 lac 25k Sad to hear this as i don't think its affordable now.
Placements
Placement is good. Almost all renowned companies across IT,Telecom,Power Sector,Civil come to placement every year. Even some PSU like IOCL come for placement. Packages vary from 3 Lakhs to 10 Lakhs per annum.
Hostel and Facilities
Hostel facility and food was ok type. Not that great. Because most of the students were either day scholars or from chandigarh. They used to run away on weekends. But ragging was strictly banned even at that time also. The atmosphere was peaceful.

Alumni network is spread in every m metro city. We had Delhi chapter. Recently alumni from Delhi chapter met at chhatarpur recently. Seniors do help current students in their placement.
Faculty
The faculty of the college is very renowned who had written several books. P S Bumble,A K Sawhney to name a few. Very good faculty. The college had quarters for faculty to stay.

Campus life was chilled out. Gender ratio was around 60:40. Mostly people from North India studied here. No political affinity to any particular group. Since Punjab is have good culture so good culture and people from affluent families normally come here.

My college internship was awesome as i was one of the 7 students who got selected for internship at Free Scale Semiconductors Lt. Noida and that too with stipend Rs 13000 month. The company is MNC and is reputed as one of the greatest MNC in the field of electronics. It was like a dream come true for me to have first ever experience in such a MNC.
Loans and Scholarships
The topper of each branch would have his tuition fee waived off every year. Further loans from Punjab national bank bank of Baroda and other govt banks is very easily available. I availed scholarship in my second year.

Entrance Exam
The college accepts scores of JEE Mains and Universities own entrance test. If the candidate has the decent score he/she will be called for counseling and allotted the branch as per their score.
Fees
The total annual fee is around 1.5 lakhs which includes the hostel fee. This is the fee for the b.tech course. Also, it is mandatory for students to take the hostel. For management course the fee is around Rs 1,00,000 and around 22k for other courses.

For braches like Computer science/IT the university has a 100% placement rate. For other branches the placement rate is more than 90%. There is a placement cell which is providing updated facilities day by day.

The food of the hostel is the best. Separate rooms are provided to each student. The rooms are spacious and provide all the necessary facilities. The hostels also have a great internet service.

Alumni meets are organized for increasing the interaction between the students and seniors. The seniors are always ready for helping juniors with academic as well as other life related stuff. They are helpful in clearing doubts.
Faculty
All of the faculties are well qualified and there are number of faculties in on edepartment for one course. This gives a lot of option to students. The professors are not just focused on the acamdeic growth but more as an indicual as a whole.

The student gender ratio is almost the same which is a good part. The university has top wordclass labs and classromss. It encourages studenst o take part in sport competetions and even has its own stadium. There is no case of harassment of juniors as the university has very strict ragging policies.
