The institute was set up by the National Institute of technology Act ‘2007 and is fully funded by the government of India. It is ranked among the top 25 engineering colleges in India and was ranked the Best college in Kerala by the magazines India Today and Week.

B. Tech programs are offered in the following fields- Biotechnology, Chemical engineering, Civil engineering, Computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechanical engineering and Production engineering.

M. Tech programs are offered in- Civil engineering, Structural engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical engineering, Electronics and communication engineering , Mechanical engineering and Nano science and technology. GATE qualified students get entry into the PG programs. The information also provides research programs in each department.

The institute has numerous facilities as follows- Student guidance cell, Grievance cell, Internal complaints committee, huge hostels for both boys and girls with all amenities, Central computer center, central library, Anti ragging cell, campus networking center, health center, guest house for parents of the students, conference room , bus services etcetera.

An excellent placement and training department ensures that students get placed in world class companies such as- Motorola, ABB, Accenture, IBM, Amdocs and Idea Cellular.

Hostel and Facilities

Campus life

National institute of technology is located in Chathamangalam, Calicut which was established in the year 1961 spread across area 300 acres of land. The college has a library with journals, periodicals, digital library, stack room, journal room, special issue section open from 9 AM to 11 PM.

The college provides other facilities like medical center, sports complex, playground, hostel facility, mess facility, transportation facility, central computing center, computer networking center, engineering unit, guest house, vehicle section, laborites, seminar halls, conference halls and auditorium.

Hostel

The college provides hostel facilities too for both girls and boys. There are total of 11 hostels and few flats for men with common rooms and recreational centers and the students have newspapers, TVs, indoor sports and game facilities. Mini canteen, Milma, Amul kiosks, DTP center, co-operative stores, Text book center, are functioning in Students Amenity Centre.

Two Power laundries are also functioning in the hostels. In girls’ hostel there are tailoring shops, canteen, gym, ice-cream shop, parlor and cooperative stores.

The students can apply for various scholarships like national scholarship, Chinese government scholarship, Italian government scholarship and Korean government scholarship.

Student life

The college has grievance cell, student guidance cell, student affairs council, GIAN, TEQIP, Institute industry interaction, NIRMAN and anti-ragging committees.

The college organizes a fest every year called TATHVA promoting cultural and technical skills.
