DR BR Ambedkar Open University also known as Telangana Open University is a public university set up through an Act of the A.P State Legislature. It was set up in 1982 in Hyderabad, Telangana. The university provides open/distance education.
The motto of the university is “Education at your doorstep” which is to provide higher education to those who are not able to pursue it through regular mode. This is an opportunity for those who cannot complete education due to different circumstances.It provides flexible techniques in eligibility criteria, age, method of learning, courses etc.
The University is spread across in 53 acres of land with impressive buildings, lawns and scenic beauty with tress and gardens. The campus comprise of Library, Study Material House, Conference Hall, Guest House, Administrative and Support block and more.
BRAOU has a total of 213 study centers in the states of Andra Pradesh and Telangana. The distinguishing feature of the university is that it provides a chance to prison inmates to pursue education in various fields. It has 6 exclusive study centers at Cenmtral Prison- Cherlapally, Warangal, Vishakapatnam, Rajahmundry, Nellore and Kadapa.
Application and Admission Procedure
BRAOU runs various courses and admission procedure is different for different courses. The university conducts its own entrance examination for admissions to all the courses offered. The candidates need to appear in the qualifying exam. The eligibility criteria are different for different streams though.
For admission to B.A and B.Com, the student must have successfully passed 10+2 examination from a recognized education board. For admission to B.Sc, the student must be from science stream.
Any graduate with a minimum teaching experience of 2 years is eligible for admission into Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course.
Students looking for admission into Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) must have passed 12th standard examination from a recognised board.
Candidates with a graduate degree in any discipline with minimum 50% aggregate marks are eligible for admission into Bachelor of Public Relations course.
Candidates having a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree are eligible for admission into Master of Arts (MA) under any stream.
Students having bachelor degree in any stream are eligible for MBA admissions. However, for admission into MBA (Health care) the candidate must have a graduate degree in any field except fine arts and oriental languages.
Hostel and Facilities
Hostel
Dr BR Ambedkar Open University is a non- residential university and offers no hostel facilities to the students. It does not have a mess either, but all kinds of food are available at the college canteen. Students can use the nearby PGs (male and female available) for accommodation.
Facilities
Library: A well- equipped library is available to access study recourses by students pursuing research, Post- Graduate, P.G Diploma, UG Certificate or Professional Computer Centre at the university. A variety of services like documentation, reference, lending of books to its clientele, inter- institutional loans etc are provided by the library. Currently, the university has a collection of 1,47,225 books and non- books material in different languages, 153 journals, 5 E-packages and a subscription of Cambridge University press.
SC/ST Cell: A special cell that looks into effective implementation of Government policies and follow up measures for ST/ SC students is established at the university.
Sessions: Telephone session and computer centre is available for the students of the university.

Remarks
Experience At the college was good. That faculty and management was good and made me have fun and learn as well. Every lecture was efficient and the syllabus was also updated with the new trends in the market. Also the faculty was very friendly nature and that made studies more interesting.
Entrance Exam
For admission into my program the candidate needs at least 40% in his class 12th as well as he needs to appear and clear the university entrance test. There might or might not be an interview as I did not give any interview but my friends was supposed to give some interview. The interview is easy as per them.
Fees
The fee of University is very manageable it can be easily awarded by middle class family. As the university is renowned you wont mind paying this small fee for so much of knowledge.
Placements
Placement is provided by the University some of my seniors got placed in some of the companies with an average placement of around 2 to 3 lakh per annum. I did not sit for the placement as I wanted to study more.
Hostel and Facilities
I did not take any hostel as I stayed near the college in a PG. I have paid around 4k as the rent excuding electricity and food. The rent depnds on the locality. There are some good food outlets which give food cheap. As per my friends the hostel facilities was good.
Alumni
There is no ragging and the campus and the seniors and the management is very friendly. I don't think there is any alumini meet sort of thing.
Faculty
The college is very good at teaching as well as most of them have over 10 years of teaching experience. There always available to clear the doubts of the student and make the teaching very easy for students to understand.
Campus Life
The events on the campus are limited but still we get some events. Such as technical, cultural fest are done.
Academics
The exam structure is pretty easy as the doubts are always cleared on time and enough gap between the exam is given by the management. The results are mostly out on time and I did not feel any kind of bias in cheking too. Though I felt topper were told about the questions in advance but I am not sure.
Internships
No internship was offered during my time and students who are interested can do so in their summer breaks. Internships are very important during the placement season as the students who have interned are preferred over those who have not by top companies.
Loans and Scholarships
I did not get any type of scholarship though I have heard that the scholarship is offered to students for not that financially sound and also top ranking students.
Remarks
It is not that popular but it is a good university and open university which means students can get degree without attending the classes. The fee is so very low as compared to regular course. Though the management is not that up to date it and lacks a lot when compared to regular mode of study..
Entrance Exam
No kind of entrance if you want to get into any of the UG courses but for some pg course you might have to give some entrace.

i had paid around 40000 per year. This is not include any miscellaneous fees just the tuition fee.
Placements
No job placement provided by the college will have to get a job on your own. They just give you the degree and based on that you have to get your job.

No proper platform for the conduction of alumni interaction
Faculty
The faculty in my college are very supportive and highly experienced staff members. There are many non technical staff in my college.The standard of teaching was moderate.

Being an open university there's not much campus life
Academics
The course curriculum is pre-planned but i though it was not much updated and the syllabus has been keeping on going for a really long time.
