Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) at IIT Kanpur is a government college department and was formed 1974, and is affiliated to Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. It has been duly approved and accredited by the AICTE, the UGC, and the NBA.
The department offers a Minor in IME course at the undergraduate level; M. Tech and MBA programs at the postgraduate level; and PhD and Postdoctoral programs as well at the doctoral level.
The campus of the IME department is integrated into the larger, sprawling IIT Kanpur campus, and offers various facilities to students such as hostels for boys and girls respectively, state of the art labs including computer labs, a well-stocked library, a cafeteria, modern auditoriums and classrooms, video conferencing facilities, and various sports facilities.
Admission to UG and PG courses is granted on the basis of merit marks obtained in Class 12th and the applicant’s Bachelor’s degree respectively, as well as ranking/scoring in entrance exams such as the CAT and the GATE.

HOSTEL FACILITIES:
The college provides hostel facilities. A hostel fee of Rs 50,294 per year is to be paid at the time of allotment.
CAMPUS FACILITIES:
With an excellent infrastructure and a conducive environment with world class facilities, IIT Kanpur is a considered as a global centre for learning. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, centrally air-conditioned with the facility of power back-up and secured access.
An automated library management system maintains a wide range of books and a spacious area for the students to read comfortably. Apart from books, academic journals, reference materials and databases are available here.
The computer laboratories are server-based with high speed internet connectivity. An online campus known as IME offers an interactive facility between the students and the teachers. It also encourages in online testing, discussion board and courseware exchange.
Sports facilities help to strengthen one physically so the college lays out different indoor and outdoor sports to encourage them.

Eligibility:
To pursue MBA at IIT Kanpur students must satisfy following eligibility criteria.
A Bachelor�s degree in any branch of engineering or technology (AICTE approved) from a University/Institute with at least 60% of marks or grade point average of 6.0 on a scale of 10.0 in aggregate based on average over whole programme. Candidates with AMIE or similar distance learning qualification are not eligible for this programme. Candidates with Architecture degree can apply provided they have taken Mathematics at 10+2 level.more
Candidates from outside India (foreign nationals and non-resident Indians) will be selected on the basis of academic background and work experience.
In this programme, 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates, and 7.5% seats for ST candidates. Such candidates who have passed the basic qualifying degree as stated above are eligible to apply irrespective of marks/ grade point average but should satisfy the eligibility requirement of qualifying in JMET. However, while considering their cases only their suitability for the programme is ensured and they are not compared with the candidates belonging to other categories.
For the year 2010, 18% seats are reserved for those OBC candidates who qualify JMET and who do not belong to the Creamy Layer according to the criteria laid down by the Central Government.
Up to 3% seats are reserved for candidates with physical disability (PD). The reservation to PD category will be applicable to all categories (including General) horizontally.
Those having applied to IIT Kanpur MBA programme on qualifying the JMET 2010 will be short listed and then invited for a group discussion and interview, which will be held at IIT Kanpur.
