Gyan Jyoti College was established in the year 2005 under the aegis of Vivekananda Academic Foundation, a registered trust. It is the brainchild of a conglomeration of Corporate Houses and eminent personalities who wanted to bring about a conspicuous change in the educational scenario in North Bengal region in particular and North-Eastern region in general. Gyan Jyoti College is the first self -financed, multi-faculty educational institution in the region. The college seeks to channelize education by inculcating in students certain definite career goals. It provides quality education for the total development of students.

The vision and mission document stands testimony to the commitment and concern of the Trust towards the future of the younger generation. The college has successfully completed 10years and is in the threshold of commencing the tenth year. From a humble beginning with 62 students in 2005, the college now has 600 students studying diverse subjects under the total care of highly talented and dedicated band of teachers.

The college offers Honours and Pass courses in Arts, Commerce, Management and Computer Applications. From the session 2011 – 2012 the college has introduced Science courses as well. The college is affiliated to the University of North Bengal.

Gyan Jyoti College provides quality education for the total development of the students. The programmes of the College are so designed to give a new impetus to the educational scenario in the region in general and Siliguri in particular to bring about effective and acceptable solution to the problems of the students, be it academic, personal or emotional. The College provides value education along with academics in such a manner that the students finally transform themselves into agents of social change. On the whole the mission of the College is to help the students to make a difference at the societal level by surmounting the challenges towering over them.

1. The college has set up a special Mass Com Lab cum Studio within its vicinity, for the benefit of the students – This is the only college in the region to offer such provision for the students. The Studio is gully furnished matching up to the standards that of a professional Mass Com studio. The studio has a post production section comprising of equipments needed for editing, recording as well as documenting. Apart from the audio visual equipments, the lab also contains provisions for print media .The entire layout has been designed finely along with keeping it air-conditioned as well as sound proof. 2. One of the eminent part of college’s curriculum is the research forum – This is mainly to get the faculty going. In these sessions the faculty gets to share and present their paper presentation every fortnightly. The presentation is followed by critical analysis and group discussion sessions.
