After 1947, post-colonial and independent India witnessed the emergence of a reorganization of higher education in the country, radically different from the colonial perspective and perception, our national leaders adopted a wider perspective on the character of higher education in free India: 'to provide a coherent picture of Universe and integrated way of life'. The Radhakrishnan Commission (1948) laid down aims and objectives of Higher Education: i) transmission of intellectual and ethical knowledge of humanity to the young: ii) enrichment of this heritage. iii) extension of the boundaries of knowledge; and iv) promotion of social values and virtues.
It is pertinent to note that one position of our institution is more than 100 years, in fact 111 years, to be accurate.
Fragmented historical records show that Mohandra Lal Sarcar, the one of greatest scientist of pre independence era, during his last four years of his life (i.e. from 1901 till his death in 1904), he emphasized in a series of public lectures on the establishment of Colleges for pursuit of science.
His endeavor , as a pioneer of popular science, had a reflection in erection of a room as an extension of the then Shibpur Dinobundhoo Institution (School - Main) which was established in 1874 in Howrah district , dedicated for cultivation of science in 1909. The Tablet of his donation is still inscribed on the wall of this heritage room ( now room no. 17 of the College ) [CD already attached]. Subsequently the room/hall was named after him.
Subsequently, with the initiative of Prof. Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharya , a well known freedom fighter, Satyagrahi, and the President of the Managing Committee of Shibpur Dinobundhoo Institution (School), proposed in a Managing Committee meeting in 1947 that Intermediate Classes may be started in this extended room (which was erected in 1903) of the school building under the newly founded College of the same name which was adjacent of the School.
Since, then, the College has moved forward; it had a chequered history of growth and expansion.

How to Apply

All the applicants applying to Shibpur Dinobundhoo Institution (College) for the admission in UG (B.A/B.Sc./B.Com) Honours & General courses must read the following instructions carefully and also abide by the rules of admission given bellow fully before proceed to apply.

Once the application form fill up is submitted successfully, a unique Challan Number will be generated automatically. Applicant should have to note and preserve the Challan No. carefully. After that Applicant can print out the bank Challan immediately after Login to the Applicant Panel or it can be print out later from the Applicant Panel after Login. Applicant can use the same to print the Challan/Form in future.

Once the challan is generated and printed (3 Copies in one page), applicant will have to deposit the application fee using the same at any local branch of Indian Overseas Bank and update the Payment Status from the Applicant Panel and get the print out of the filled in Application Form. Applicant should keep two copies of receipt bank challan with bank stamp (Student & College copy) safely. College copy will be required to deposit at the time of admission counseling. Application submitted online will be valid only after depositing the application fee (Rs. 120/-) to the bank within 13th June 2015.

This system will remain open for online form submission from 2nd June 2015 to midnight of 12th June 2015. Provisional Merit List will be published on 17th June 2015. Applicants are advised to provide a valid mobile no. Applicants are requested to visit the Applicant Panel frequently for getting admission related notices, information, payment status etc.

Important Instructions : Applicant has to produced the print out of the Application Form along with testimonials & Deposit Challan (College Copy) at the time of admission counseling, if shortlisted. Applicant are not required to submit any documents to the college either by post or by hand. Applicant must preserve the Challan No for future references like admission. Applicants who will not be able to refer the Challan No. cannot be entitled for any communications.

If at any stage of the admission process, marks or any information entered in online application system is found incorrect the application will be rejected and no claims of repayment of application fees will be entertained.
