Nadar Saraswathi College of Arts and Science was founded by the Philanthropic Society of Theni Melapettai Hindu Nadargal Uravinmurai with the primary objective of providing higher education for deserving students especially those belonging to the rural sectors. This Educational Agency, Theni Melapettai Hindu Nadargal Uravinmurai was established a century ago with the noble aim of promoting education for the people who were living socially, economically and educationally backward in and around Theni.
Being a philanthropic society, Theni Melapettai Hindu Nadargal Uravinmurai started a primary school about 75 years ago with strength of 72 students. This institution has grown like a banyan tree and now it runs eleven educational institutions. The Uravinmurai through their reputation in the field of education, in and around, Theni, have 25,000 students in the eleven institutions. They impart quality education to the students without any discrimination of caste, creed and religion.
Every year students from these institutions are coming up with flying colors for qualifying themselves either as Doctors or Engineers or Agricultural Scientists or Technocrats. The logical development of these institutions has necessitated the management to start a college at the earliest time in providing facilities for Higher Education to the seeking students.
With the motto of “Service to Humanity”, the management had started ‘Nadar Saraswathi College of Arts and Science’ Dated 19-7-1996 and it flourished in the keen thought of educating rural women. The college was affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University initially. As per the Government order the College was affiliated to Mother Teresa Women’s University from the academic year 2003-2004. It is the endeavor of the institution to be certified with the prestigiousISO 9001:2008 award since 2006. It is approved Under 2(f) & 12(B) Status of UGC.
Over the past seventeen years it has grown to become the leading selffinancing college in imbibing quality education to the rural women folk and has been well established in offering 12 UG Courses, 10 PG Courses and 4 Research Oriented Programs. The college is offering distance education courses from the academic year 2014 – 2015.
The adequate infrastructure facilitates the teachers and learners towards the academic progress. The college has reached its glory of academic excellence by securing many University ranks every year. The college has a profound glory in the hilarious University ranks 313 achieved with 105 ranks for the past four years.
The college campus consists of sufficient number of well-furnished classrooms to accommodate the ever increasing strength of the students. Modern teaching aids including LCD projectors are provided to enhance the quality of teaching learning process. Science Laboratories namely the Microbiology lab,Biochemistry lab, and Chemistry lab are fully equipped with necessary latest equipments to impart practical skills to the students. The management highly feels that facilities provided in the laboratory will definitely help the students to develop technological skills. The Computer Science laboratory has 334 higher end configuration systems. The lab comprises of fully air conditioned divisions. The systems are allotted for the students in the ratio 1 : 1 . The internet laboratory has 65 higher end configuration systems with 8 Mbps accessing speed. All laboratories especially designed to cater the needs of research students. This is the only college in Theni district to have two air- conditioned language labs. These labs provide interactive Language Lab recorder with headphone and ETNL software for each student.
The auditorium named as Kamarajar Arangam is well furnished, well – knitted and air conditioned. The seminar hall has been specially designed with digital audio system and Multimedia Projector for conducting common programs.The college has established a good library with ample number of books for each subject catering to the needs of the students. The library subscribes for a large number of journals to help the students to possess current knowledge in their discipline. The management has endowed the college with a well-furnished, well knitted and air conditioned digital library with the latest technology of opaque. Reprography service is also provided. The college provides transportation facility to the faculty and students for commuting to the college from various places through its adequate number of vans and buses.

The college has an excellent canteen facility to provide healthy and hygienic food at cheapest price to the student community.The college maintains a beautifully laid out hostel with full –fledged modern amenities for the students. Every student is provided with individual chair and cot.
Reading room is available in the hostel. Facilities for games like Volleyball, Ball Badminton and Tennikoit are available within the hostel. A well knitted dining hall is available for the students. Regular visit of a physician is arranged.The college works with the motto “Service to Humanity” and inspires women by stating that education can bend iron rods with “Knowledge, Discipline,Perfection”.
