Why Bharathiar University Distance Education?

Bharathiar University is a state university in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The University was established in February 1982 and was recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1985.

The University has about 108 affiliated colleges of which 22 are autonomous, 86 non-autonomous colleges, 3 constituted colleges, 12 Management Institutions and 1 Air Force Administrative College. In addition, there are 31 Research Institutes of the State and Central Governments, which are recognized by the University for Research purposes.

The School of Distance Education (SDE) of Bharathiar University was established in the year 1992 and at present offers a number of distance courses at UG, PG, Diploma and PG Diploma level in Management, science, arts, computer applications and education department.

Admission Procedure

The School of Distance Education (SDE) Bhartathiar University offers over 174 courses in different specializations. All the Courses offered by the School of Distance Education, Bharathiar University have been provisionally recognized by the DEB (Distance Education Board).

Admission Application

Candidates seeking admission should have the eligibility certificates and qualification under any university recognized by University Grants Commissions.

The application form is available to a candidate from following means:

  • Online from the official website of SDE Bharthiar University – http://sde.b-u.ac.in by paying an application fee Rs.150 through online payment (Net
    Banking/Debit-ATM/ Credit Card/ UPI/ GPay/ Paytm etc.)

OR

  • The application form can also be obtained by post by enclosing a DD of Rs.200 in favour of “The Director, SDE, Bharathiar University” payable at “Coimbatore”. Also enclose a self-addressed envelope of size 30 X 24 cm and sent to the Director, SDE, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.

OR

  • By post enclosing a Bank challan or Demand Draft for Rs. 150/- in favor of ““The Director, SDE, Bharathiar University” payable at “Coimbatore” [or] through challan at Bank of India, Bharathiar University Branch only.

Once the university receives the application, it will be checked for completeness and if found in order, an SMS will be sent to applicant’s mobile number along with details of course fee.

Application Fee

 

Candidates can obtain the prospectus and admission application upon payment of Rs. 150 in form of Demand Draft or Challan at Bank of India, Bharathiar University Branch only. In case of downloaded application Rs. 150/- be added with course fee towards the cost of application.

Required Documents

Along with the filled application form, following documents should be attached in the post:

  • A demand draft / Bank of India, B.U. Branch Challan for the 1st Installment or full fee prescribed drawn in favour of the Director, School of Distance Education, Bharathiar University payable at Coimbatore. If the application form is downloaded from the University Website, enclose a Bank of India Challan or Demand Draft for the cost of application form separately.
  • Attested photocopies of certificates pertaining to the qualifying examination passed.
  • A recent passport size (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm) photograph pasted on the first page of the application form.
  • Equivalent certificate obtained from the Association of Indian Universities, if the candidate has graduated from a foreign university.
  • The overseas students seeking UG admission has to furnish (1) Address Proof, (2) Attested copy of passport, (3) Authentication letter from Embassy to this university.
  • Produce service / bonafide certificate to avail working concession for Press, Media, Police, Defense, RAF/ CRPF & Teacher candidates.

Step by Step Admission procedure

Here is a complete overview of the admission process:

STEP-1: The application form and prospectus are obtained from the University’s official website or from Spot Admission cum Learning Centers or by Post.

STEP-2: An admission fee of Rs. 150 is to be paid by Demand Draft or Challan at Bank of India at Bharathiar University Branch.

STEP-3: Application form is to be filled and submitted with all required documents send by post to The Director, School of Distance Education (SDE), Bharathiar University, Coimbatore – 641 046 (or) the Coordinator of any Spot Admission cum Learning Centers / Information cum Spot Admission Centers.

STEP-4: University will confirm the admission once the application is processed. The details of course fee are sent to candidate’s mobile number. The candidate has to log into the online portal and make the course fee payment by any of the payment modes – Net Banking/Debit(ATM)/Credit Card/UPI/GPay/ Paytm. Once payment is received, the admission will be provisionally confirmed. The candidate can download the ID card. Material will be sent to postal address mentioned in the application.

STEP-5: Once the admission is provisionally confirmed, the candidate has to send all documents and certificates for verification. After verifying the original certificates, the admission will be confirmed. All original certificates will be returned immediately after scrutiny. If the certificates are not received within a month, candidates can represent the matter directly to the Director, SDE through a request letter.

Fee Structure

The fee structure is dependent on the specialization/type of course and type of admission etc. The official website provides a fee calculator, that enables the applicant to calculate detailed Course fees for all the courses based on various criteria such as Study Centre, Residing State of Candidate, Board / University (Last studied), Concession and etc.

Concession

Fee concession is applicable for the following category:

  • 25% fee concession in Tuition fee to all teachers, defense and police personnel, press and media persons, graduates of Bharathiar University, and ex-servicemen and RAF / CRPF personnel.
  • 100% concession in Tuition fee & Examination fee for differently abled (As per Government Order).
  • 10 % concession in tuition fee for women who have not availed any other concession.

The course fee is to be paid in two installments. All payments to the School of Distance Education should be made only by means of a crossed MICR Demand Draft drawn in favor of “The Director, School of Distance Education, Coimbatore, payable at Coimbatore (or) by means of Challan at Bank of India, Bharathiar University Branch, accompanied by fee remittance form.

Scholarship

Scholarships are available for SC/ST category. SC / ST students admitted to various programs can avail themselves of the scholarship made available by their respective State Governments.

Application forms for Scholarship in Tamil Nadu can be obtained and completed application forms should be submitted to the Director, School of Distance Education within a month from the date of admission.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission should possess the eligible qualification and the certificates issued by relevant bodies constituted by state / central government/universities recognized by UGC/ AICTE.

For UG courses, candidates should have completed their study under 11+1 /10+2 /10+3 (10 + Diploma)

For Diploma courses, candidates should have passed in Higher Secondary Examination.

For PG courses, candidates should have completed their study under 11+1+3/10+2+3/10+3 (Diploma)+3(UG).

With reference to the notice issued (shown above) by the Director of School of Distance Education (Bharathiar University) in June 2018-

  • All private franchise’s operating as study/information center within the state of Tamil Nadu should be closed down immediately.
