Introduction

Indira Gandhi National Open University Open Management Aptitude Test (IGNOU Open MAT) is a National level entrance exam conducted every year by the Indira Gandhi National Open University for admission into the university’s various post graduate management program.

These include MBA, DIM, PGDIM, PGDHRM, PGDOM, PGDMM and PGDFM.

The exam is held twice a year. While the first exam (held in August) is known as OPENMAT XLII, the second exam (held in February) is known as OPENMAT XLIII.

Pattern

The exam is and will be conducted only through offline (pen and paper) mode. While the test for OPENMAT XLII has already been taken on 20th August, 2017, the test for OPENMAT XLIII will take place on 4th February, 2018. OPENMAT XLIII.

It will be held across 56 regional centers and the centers will be allocated to the candidates on the basis of preference entered while applying.

The test will be conducted for 3 hours from 10 am to 1 pm on the specified dates.

There are four different sections in the test namely General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning. While the General Awareness section has 30 questions, the English Language and Quantitative Aptitude sections have 50 questions each followed by 70 questions in the Reasoning section. All the questions are of multiple choice type (MCQ). There is no time limit section wise.

There are a total of 200 questions. All the questions are of multiple choice type (MCQ). Each correct answer is of 1 mark. There is no negative marking for a wrong answer.

The exam is conducted only in English medium.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must be a graduate in any stream (including Chartered Accountancy/ Cost Accountancy/ Company Secretaryship/ Medicine/ Engineering/ Law) with minimum 50% aggregate. OR
  • Master’s Degree in any subject. OR
  • Non-graduates (10+2 or equivalent)with six years of Managerial/ supervisory/ professional experience are also eligible for taking admission into Diploma in Management after clearing the entrance test.
  • For Reserved category candidates, minimum 45% aggregate is required.

Note: Candidates who have successfully cleared the entrance test like CAT, MAT and State Level management tests need not appear in OPENMAT. Though, the cut off percentage for admission of these candidates will be decided by the university.

  • There is no age limit fixed for taking this examination.
  • Not only Indian students but even foreign students are eligible for taking the test.
  • Foreign students residing in India must be having a valid student visa for the minimum duration of the program to become eligible for admission.
  • They are also required to remit the fee at par with foreign students.
  • Their admissions will be processed by the International Division of the university after ensuring their antecedents from the Ministry of External Affairs/Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Application Forms and Submission Procedure

The applications form (Form-1) for OPENMAT XLIII is available since July 2017 and the last date for submission is December 15, 2017.

A student can apply through both online and offline mode.

The application fee is Rs 1050 for both Online and Demand Draft mode.

  • For offline payment, the candidate can:
  • Download and take a print out of the application form.
  • Send a DEMAND DRAFT for paying the fees Rs 1,050 drawn in favor of IGNOU from any nationalized bank payable at New Delhi.
  • For online payment, the candidate has to:
  • Fill the application form and submit the fees along with the form.
  • The payment of Rs 1,050 can be done via Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking.

While applying online, the candidates need to have the following documents ready for reference and/or submission:

  • Mark sheet of 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s degree
  • Scanned latest photograph (maximum 100 KB)
  • Scanned latest signature (maximum 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of Age proof (maximum 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of relevant Educational qualifications (maximum 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of Experience certificate (if any) (maximum 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of Category certificate if belonging to SC/ST/OBC (maximum 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of BPL certificate if Below Poverty Line (maximum 100 KB)
  • Credit Card/ Debit Card for payment of fees

The filled offline application form, the required documents and the demand draft has to be sent via registered post/ speed post to:

The offline application form can be obtained only by taking a print out of the soft copy of the form available on the website.

The last date of form submission was December 15, 2017.

After successful submission of the form, the candidate will receive an E-mail and SMS regarding successful submission of the form. This can be used for future reference.

Also, the candidate needs to get a print out of the online application form after submitting it successfully. Apart from that, the candidate needs to preserve the IGNOU OPENMAT XLIII payment confirmation page as well as 5-6 copies of photographs identical to the ones uploaded for future reference.

Thus the complete procedure to fill the Application Form is mentioned below:

STEP-1: Registration

  1. Click on Register Online and then select Online Admission.
  2. The Homepage of the Online Admission System will open. Click on Register Yourself.
  3. Enter the details as asked on the online application portal regarding Name, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Gender, Mobile number, E-mail ID, Username and Password.
  4. Confirm the Password and write the security code shown. Then click on Submit.
  5. The username and password is generated.

STEP-2 Login and filling up of details-

The various section of details have to be filled:

  • Program Details: Program Type, Select program for enrolment, Regional center, Study center code, State code, Medium, Are you already a student of IGNOU for other program.
  • Personal Details: Name, Father’s name, Date of Birth, Nationality, Gender, Category, Territory, Marital Status, Religion, Whether Minority, Social Status, Mode of Study.
  • Other Details: Whether Physically Handicapped, Employment Status.
  • Scholarship Details: Annual Scholarship Amount, Department offering scholarship, Family income, whether below poverty line, Whether Kashmiri migrant.
  • Qualification Details: Eligibility criteria, relevant qualification, Main subjects, Year of passing, Division, % of marks, Board code.
  • Correspondence Details: Address, City, State, Pin code, Telephone number, Fax number, Mobile number, E-mail ID.

STEP-3: Upload Scanned copy of photograph and signature-

The scanned image of photograph and signature in JPG/ JPEG format is submitted and the file size should not exceed 100 KB.

STEP-4: Detail Confirmation and Payment of Fees

The candidate has to verify whether all the details are correct. Then click on Next. They then have to click Make Payment to pay the application fees through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card for which they need to fill the required details. Then click on Pay.

STEP-5: Print out of Application Form

After successfully filling the complete application form, the candidate must take a print out of the form for future reference. They will also receive an E-mail and SMS regarding successful submission of the form.

Admit Card

The admit cards will be released 10 days before the day of the entrance exam. The candidates can download their admit cards online only till the day of the exam from the Official website.

In order to access the Admit Card, the candidate needs to follow the following steps:

  • Go to the official link.
  • Enter your nine-digit enrollment number in the Admit Card Login page. Click on Submit.
  • If you have forgotten your enrollment number, enter your partial name and your date of birth and click Submit. On finding the enrollment number, click on it.
  • The Admit Card will appear and can be downloaded and printed after carefully checking all the details and in case of discrepancies, authorities have to be informed.

The Admit Card contains the following details:

  • Name of the Candidate
  • Candidate’s Photograph and Signature
  • Test Centre Address
  • Examination Date and Time
  • Enrollment number
  • Control number
  • Exam Instructions

The hard copy of the Admit Card is also sent to the candidates by post. A candidate must carry his/her admit card along with a photo identity proof (Aadhaar Card/ Voter ID Card/ Passport/ PAN Card/ Driving License) otherwise he/she will not be allowed to take the exam.

Admission Procedure

Once the exam is over, the results are declared (tentatively in March 2018) wherein the scores and ranks secured by the candidates can be checked online by entering the enrollment number. The score card appears on the screen and can be downloaded. The exam conducting authority also sends the score cards to all the students by post.

The cut off is decided after the results are declared. A candidate who clears the cut off will be said to have qualified the test. The cutoff is decided by the examination authority taking into consideration factors such as exam difficulty, number of appeared candidates, total marks of the exam and number of seats. On the basis of scores, candidates are selected for the MBA programs.

The candidates who qualify the IGNOU OPENMAT test have to apply for admission to the programs. They have to submit their Application form, requisite Fee, Admit Card, Score Card, Attested copies of Educational, Experience Certificate, Category Certificate, Identity Card duly filled up and Demand Draft.

The candidates who have qualified the test on the basis of score are eligible for admission to the management program in any of the two semesters. Thus those qualifying the OPENMAT XLIII test can take admission in either July 2018 or January 2018 batch.
