Established in 1990, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) currently has under its jurisdiction 66 affiliated colleges, 6 University colleges and 6 constituent colleges, some of which are over a hundred years old, with over 80,000 registered students.The university is divided into 28 academic departments like arts, language, science, engineering and more ,under the UGC, New Delhi, which also offers financial assistance to many of the students.

Admission and Application Procedure

There are two admission types – Academic Year (June-December) and Calendar Year (January-May) for all UG/PG courses. As for the admission procedure, there are two options:

  1. Spot Admission – For any distance education course, spot admission is offered during Monday-Friday at both the University Campus, Tirunelveli – 627012 and T. Hindu College, Nagercoil – 629 002.
  2. Admission by Post – Applications can be sent via post to ‘The Director, Directorate of Distance & Continuing Education, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli – 627012, Tamil Nadu‘ and the directorate will post decisions to successful applicants after verification within 15 days of receipt of the completed application form. There is no provision for online application as of yet, although the application form can be downloaded online. (See URL below)

Documents Required for Application – The following documents are required for admission:

  1. 2 Passport-sized photographs to be affixed in the application form and Identity card after attestation by a gazetted officer.
  2. Transfer Certificate
  3. Migration Certificate
  4. Date of Birth Proof
  5. Statement of Marks – Class 10 and Class 12/Diploma for UG Admission
  6. Statement of Marks – Class 12 and UG Provisional/Degree Certificate for PG Admission
  7. Caste Certificate (For SC/ST/OBC/Minority Candidates Only)
  8. PwD Certificate (For PwD Candidates Only)

The above documents in original and self-attested photocopy must be submitted along with the filled-in application and Challan receipt for admission consideration.

Application Fee – The application processing fee is Rs. 200 for all UG/PG/Diploma courses. If the application form is downloaded from the website, an additional Rs. 200 is applicable.

Mode of Payment – The application fee can be paid before the given deadline either through:

  1. Demand Draft drawn in favor of ‘The Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli’ payable at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Name of the Candidate, Application Number, Purpose of Remittance, Name of Study Centre and Course of Study should be written on the back of the DD.
  2. State Bank of India Challan under the Power Jyoti Scheme – For DD & CE, Tirunelveli A/C No. 32723644765. Please inquire the university office or your nearest SBI branch for more details.

A penalty of Rs. 100 is applicable after the due date. Cash Payments are not accepted.

In case of offline applications, the applicant must contact the nearest MS University Information/Study Centre for the form and prospectus.

Last Date for Application – Applications for courses under the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education have deadlines in early May for Academic Year admissions and early December for Calendar Year admissions. Demand Draft should be drawn after 1st June for Academic Year and 1st January for the Calendar year admissions. Please contact the information centers for more information.

Fee Structure

The DD&CE at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University offers UG, PG and Diploma courses.

The UG courses have a fee range of Rs. 3475 – 7875.

PG courses and Diploma courses have course fees around Rs. 3775 – 16025 and Rs. 7525 – 9025 respectively. The table below gives the total course fees against the course opted for.

Once the candidate is admitted, the course fees need to be paid in full through Demand Draft/ SBI Challan.

Note – The 10% TDS is remitted in the study center separately.

Scholarships

  1. Scheduled Caste (Hindu) and Scheduled Tribe candidates are eligible for reimbursement of all non-refundable fees. Those pursuing courses offered by the DD&CE are provided with an annual allowance for the purchase of prescribed/essential textbooks. Candidates working in the Government/ Private sector cannot avail these allowances. Forms for this scholarship can be obtained through the Director, SC/ST Welfare Department of the concerned State Government.
  2. PwD candidates can avail the ‘State Government Scholarship for the Disabled’, which allows reimbursement of all non-refundable fees and a course fee concession. Forms for this scholarship can be obtained throughthe ‘District Rehabilitation Officer’ in the concerned district.
  3. 50% and 100% concession in tuition fees for transgender and differently-abled students respectively.

PG courses Only candidates who have passed UG degree in the relevant subject (B.Com for M.Com course, for example) only can apply
MCA Any degree with Mathematics at +2 level or any degree with Mathematics / Statistics as one of the subject is acceptable
PG Diploma courses* Any UG degree, except B.Litt, from a recognised university is acceptable
B.Lit Acceptable only for MA Tamil course
Certificate courses 10+2 or equivalent
Diploma/Certificate in Yoga for Human Excellence 10th grade or equivalent

Approval

All courses under the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education are approved by the Distance Education Council and the University Grants’ Commission. The university itself has a B+ accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Placements

The university has a DD&CE Career Guidance Cell in the main campus. Current students as well as alumni can use the services of the Cell. After course completion, students usually find placement in (i) Government/semi-Government organizations (ii) Private organizations (iii) Self-employment and entrepreunership(iv) Non-Governmentalorganizations. The Cell organises information sessions and training programmes for prospective employees in the information centers.

After training by the Guidance Cell, the Placement Cell helps the students in preparing resumes and contacting potential employers at the main campus.

Study Centers

Distance MBA Course

Eligibility– Any candidate having completed any UG degree, except B.Litt, from a recognised University under the UGC is eligible.

Application Procedure– Applications can be submitted in-person or via post at any of the informationcenters across Tamil Nadu along with original and photocopy of the mark sheet of 12th grade and UG Degree/Provisional Certificate. The application form must be duly filled, with attested passport-sized photographs as directed and application processing fee of Rs. 200 (in-person) or Rs. 400 (via post).

Fee Structure – All specialisations under the MBA programme have a total course fee of Rs.13125 for 4 semesters.

Specialisations – The following specialisations are offered (as of 2016-2017) in MBA at the university – Marketing , Production, Finance, Human Resources and Systems. A separate MBA course in also offered in Yoga for Human Excellence.

Subjects and Syllabus – The first year syllabus for MBA is common to all specialisations and included Management Process and Behaviour, Managerial Economics, Accounting For Managers, Business Environment, Business Law, Managerial Communication, Computer Application and Management &Research Methodology.
