The University School of Open Learning, Punjab University, was one of the first educational institutes to be established in 1971 for students who cannot pursue a formal education. Starting from contact programmes and study materials, it has now over 5000 students, and conducting classes in remote audio-visual mode.

Admission and Application Procedure

Admission Procedure: All applications to the distance education programmes must be made online through the URL given below. The application process is as follows –

  1. Candidates must register themselves and login using the chosen username and password.
  2. The examination-cum-application form must be filled out and submitted. You may need your documents to fill in the academic section of the form.
  3. Candidates will be redirected to the payment section and print the bank or post office e-Challan as applicable.
  4. The fee indicated in the Challan must be deposited at any of the SBI branches or post office after at least 24 hours of generation.
  5. Login to the portal after 48 hours of fee submission and insert payment details as requested.

Application Fee: Please contact the university office.

Mode of Payment: Only bank/ post office Challan is acceptable for application fee payment. No other form of payment will be accepted.

Supporting documents: A scanned copy of passport-sized photograph and signature of the candidate will be required to fill-up the online application form. The following documents will have to be sent to the given address (see contact details below):

  1. Print out of the Admission-cum-Examination Form Attested photocopies of 10th, 12th and graduation mark sheets will have to be submitted to the nearest study centre opted for as and when required or send via post.
  2. Original degree certificate
  3. Migration certificate for 10+2 (if passed from boards other than PSEB, HSEB, HPSEB, CBSE and ICSE)
  4. Character certificate
  5. SC/ ST certificate (also check additional documents required for scholarship in the prospectus)
  6. USOL copy of bank/ post office Challan

Original documents will also have to be submitted in-person for verification.

Foreign nationals are required to obtain an eligibility certificate from the Registrar, Punjab University, to evaluate their foreign credentials.

 Last date for application: The last date for registration is 17th February, 2017 (17th March with late fee of Rs.1000 and 31st March with late fee of Rs.5000). Similarly, the last date for deposit of challan is 20th February, 2017 (20th March with late fee of Rs.1000 and 3rd April with late fee of Rs.5000).

FAQ’s

Ques. When does the fee need to be paid?

Ans. The fees need to be paid at the beginning of each semester as shown in the table above. Please note that there are additional miscellaneous fees that need to be paid as and when designated by the university.

Ques. Can it be paid in installments?

Ans. Yes, it has to be paid in semester instalments.

Scholarships

A. There are three major scholarships available to students through USOL –i)Student’s Aid Fund: This scholarship is for economically weaker students. For students who have their own or their parent’s income less than Rs.4,00,000, are eligible for half tuition fee waiver and an additional financial assistance.

Eligibility

  • The student must establish financial need by obtaining an income certificate from the Executive Magistrate, Tehsildar or employer.
  • For continued eligibility, a minimum of 50% aggregate has to be maintained.
  • Amount – Will depend on the income slab, upto Rs.4,00,000 annually.
  • Last date of Application – September 15
  • Application Fee – None

ii) Free-ship for SC/ST: All courses under the USOL will not have any fee for SC/ST students, except self-financing courses. SC/ST candidates of Punjab state, who have an income of less than Rs.2,50,000 and eligible for Post Matric Scholarship (http://www.dpipunjab.org/ ), will have to pay 25% of the admission fee.

  • Eligibility – (i) Caste certificate showing SC/ST (ii) Income certificate
  • Amount – Tuition fee waiver. Refund of most fees.
  • Last date of Application – August first week
  • Application Fee – (i) Rs. 65, towards online application cost (ii) Rs.800 (UG/PGD-Stat), Rs.1000 (PG/Others), towards refundable library deposit

iii)  National e-Scholarship: A number of scholarships through the e-scholarship programme of the Central government is available to students (http://scholarships.gov.in/ )  –

  • Central Armed Forces and Assam Rifles scholarship
  • Post Matric Scholarship for SC/ST students
  • Post Matric Scholarship for students with disability
  • Merit-cum-Means Scheme
  • Central Sector Scholarship for SC students
  • Central Sector Scholarship for ST students

B. Additional – Fee concessions are applicable to candidates who are:

i)First child (full waiver) or second child (half waiver) of a university employee, both in-service and retired for non self-financing courses. For self-financing courses, 25% exemption is allowed.

ii)Wives, children and member of Defence/ paramilitary personnel who are disable/ killed in action. Wards of martyrs/ permanently disabled soldiers of the Kargil war are also eligible for additional hostel fee waiver.

iii) Half fee waiver to younger sibling of any registered student of the university (except for enrolment in B.Ed/ PGDCA/ PGDMC courses)

iv)Students with permanent blindness

v)Wards of people killed in Punjab riots of November, 1984.

C. SC/ ST candidates with monthly income less than Rs.2000 and not in full-time employment are eligible for reimbursement of non-refundable fees.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Criteria: There is no upper age limit for admission to any of the programmes.

Reservation : SC/ST candidates will have a relaxation in marks up to 5%, provided they have obtained the minimum pass marks. Seat reservation is provided to the following candidates –

  1. Wards of Displaced Kashmiri’s: 5% intake, to a maximum of 3 seats in non-B.Ed and maximum of 1 seat in B.Ed courses.
  2. Direct Descendants of Kargil Martyrs/ Permanently Disabled Soldiers: 1% intake above the prescribed limit, with minimum 1 seat.
  3. Son/ Daughter/ Husband/ Wife/ Brother/ Sister of November 1984 Punjab riots: 2%, with issuance of Migrant card
  • Girl students: 2 seats per course
  • Cancer patients: 3 seats per course
  • AIDS & Thalassaemia patients: 2 seats per course
Course Minimum Eligibility Criteria
B.A, B.Com Passed 10+2 or equivalent
B.LIS Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognised university
B.Ed (i) Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Humanities/ Science/ Social Sciences/ Commerce with at least 50% marks OR B.Tech/ B.E or equivalent with at least 55% marks

(ii) Candidates who have completed NCTE-recognized teacher training programme via face-to-face mode and not currently teaching

Placements

The USOL guides in placement for all students through the Placement and Guidance Cell. All interested students must register themselves using the placement guidance form available through the official website.

Distance MBA Course

Eligibility– To be eligible for admission to the Executive MBA programme, the candidate must (i)possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a recognised university in any discipline with at least 50% marks, taking the major subject into consideration OR (ii)Pass in the final examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants or Institute of Cost and Works Accountants or Institute of Company Secretaries of India OR (iii) passed the AMIE examination with at least 50% marks, having passed diploma with at least 60% marks and has 5 years of research/ teaching experience.

Application Procedure: The application may be submitted online or offline through the common application system as given above.

Fee Structure: The fee must be paid in instalments as follows – Semester I: Rs.23002, Semester II: Rs.18500, Semester III: Rs.22002, Semester IV: Rs.18500. Additional fees may be applicable as per university regulations.
