Distance MBA at Mumbai University
Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) introduced correspondence courses to the Mumbai University in 1971-72. Initially, these courses were known collectively as The Directorate of Correspondence Courses.
The Mumbai University Distance Education department has gone through a series of name changes, from Directorate of Distance Education to Institute of Distance Education and finally to IDOL in 2009.
The university offers around 14 correspondence courses with student enrollment increasing through the years.

Mumbai University Distance MBA
Mumbai University does not offer Distance MBA. Instead, it offers Post Graduate Diploma Program in Management i.e PGDFM and PGDORM. It also offers MMS program
The PG Diploma degree obtained through the correspondence programme is recognized throughout India as well as internationally.
Below-mentioned are the management distance learning courses provided by the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL).
MMS
Duration – 2 Years
Post Graduate Diploma Course in Financial Management (PGDFM)
Eligibility
- The student must have an UG degree in any course from a recognized Institute.
- The student must be a resident of India.
- Also in case of Defense Personnel, no under graduate degree is required to apply for the course.
Duration-1 year
Subjects- The following subjects are included in the programme:
- Management Accounting
- Financial Management
- Management Information and Control Systems
- Basic Cost Concept
- Taxation
Post Graduate Diploma Course in Operations Research for Management (PGDORM)
Eligibility
- The student must hold an Under Graduate University degree in any course from a recognized institute.
- The candidate must have at least 2 years work experience in any organization. Else the candidate must professional qualifications with verifiable documents and minimum of 5-years work experience.
- The student has to be a resident of India.
Duration-2 years
Subjects- The following subjects are taught in this course:
- Advanced Operations research
- Managerial Economics and Accounting
- Business Mathematics
- Use of Computers in Operations Research
- Statistics for Management
- Integrated Approach to Operations Research
Distance MBA/MMS Admission Procedure
To apply for MMS program candidates need to fill an online application form. The details can be found on http://mu.ac.in/portal/distance-open-learning/
Then the students need to appear for on an online entrance test.
On qualifying the entrance test, students will offered admission into Distance MBA/MMS program.

Documents Required
Students need to submit the required documentation along with the form in order to sit for the entrance examination. The documents needed –
- Original Mark sheets for class 10 and 10+2 as well as 1 Xerox
- Original Mark sheet for all semesters for UG degree and 1 Xerox
- Convocation Degree certificate and 1 Xerox
- 1 passport size photograph
Students Outside of Maharashtra
Students from outside Maharashtra require an eligibility certificate before getting admission. For this, they must report to the eligibility unit of the Institute–

Details of Online Entrance Test for Admission into Distance MBA
The exam is of 90 minutes duration and has 100 questions each carrying 1 mark. There is no negative marking. The questions are of Multiple Choice type.

Total fee for distance MBA/MMS at Mumbai University is Rs.1,23,599 for year 2023-24. The fee can be paid in two installments. The total fee for reserved category students is Rs.22,334/-.

Eligibility Criteria for Distance MMS (equivalent to MBA)
To apply for Distance MBA (MMS) at Mumbai University, the student should have a graduate degree in any discipline from a UGC recognized university with minimum 50% marks. The duration of the degree program should be at least 3/4 years.
Students from reserved category should have at least 45% marks.

Admission for distance MBA program at Mumbai university starts in second week of July every year for the July admission cycle.

Scholarship
There is a GOI Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC/OBC/NT/SBC.
For SC students, the annual income limit has to be Rs. 2,00,000/- and for OBC students, it has to be Rs 1,00,000/- to be eligible for the scholarship.
ST students can apply for the GOI Post Matric Scholarship/ Freeship for Tribal Development Department.
Approval
The University of Mumbai is the oldest state university of Maharashtra. All the correspondence courses offered by the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) have been approved by The Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC.
Ranking
- In the survey conducted by Careers360, University of Mumbai obtained overall 5th position all over India. In terms of Learning experience, it was ranked 3rd and in terms of Results and Efficiency, it was ranked 2nd.
- In the survey conducted by India Education, Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai was overall placed 9th.
- Similarly in a list produced by trak.in in 2017 of the “Top 25 Distance Leaning Colleges in India”, University of Mumbai bagged the 6th position.

Study Centre
Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai of has study centres only in Maharashtra. The examinations are conducted in the study centre which are located in-
- Greater Mumbai
- Thane
- Raigad
- Ratnagiri
- Sindhudurg district
There are 17 admission centres and the regional centre is in Ratnagiri.
IDOL also conducts personal guidance programmes (P.C.P) where guidance lectures are held at around 60 centres in Mumbai the major ones being in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. The lectures are held in the evenings from 6 to 8 pm and sometimes even on Saturdays/Sundays/Holidays.
