IIM PART-TIME MBA

ABOUT:

IIM stands for Indian Institute of Business Management, which was established in the year of 1961 at Kolkata and Ahmedabad at first. This institution is the most prestigious Management college in India and its establishment was initiated by Jawaharlal Nehru, based on the suggestion of the Planning Commission. Today, there are 20 IIMs in our country and they mainly offer Postgraduate, Doctoral and Executive programs to the candidates who are willing to study there. All the IIMs in our country have declared as institutions of national importance. Different IIMs in our country offer different types of programs like Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), Master in Business Administration (MBA), Ph.D., and some Executive programs in Management in different modes – Part-time as well as Regular. Each year only near about 3000 students get admitted over the 20 IIMs out of 2 Lakhs students sit in the CAT examination.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

There are a lot of IIMs situated in each corner of Indian sub-continent, and some of them offer Part-time MBA program for working executives and all of the IIMs follow almost the same selection procedure for admissions.

All the students who are willing to take admission in any of the IIMs for Part-time MBA are directed to go through the prospectus first. After going through the Brochure or Prospectus, the interested students who want to apply for admission in any IIM of their choice they have to fill an application form which is available on the official website of each IIM offering part-time MBA program.

While submitting the online application for further admission process it is mandatory to upload the scanned copies of some necessary academic documents which are mentioned below:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Class 10th mark sheet
  • Class 12th mark sheet
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate
  • GMAT/ GRE scorecard
  • A statement of pursuing a part-time MBA at that particular IIM.
  • Caste certificate in case of SC/ ST/ NC-OBC or EWS certificate if applicable.
  • A PwD certificate the applicant is a differently-abled person.
  • Work experience certificate which can be either Appointment letter, Promotion letter or any similar authentic document.

After filling all the details and uploading the academic documents, the candidates have to pay the Application fee which is from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2500 (depending on the particular IIM) through Debit/ Credit card, Net Banking, etc.

Candidates also have an option to upload GMAT/ GRE scorecard or to appear in an entrance test conducted by the individual IIMs for the admission in a part-time MBA program. The score of either of those exams is mandatory for the selection.

After that, the candidates are short-listed on the basis of their academic performances and GMAT/ GRE/ CAT/ IIM entrance score and they will be called for a personal interview and a Writing ability test the facility of PI through video conferencing is also available.

Then, after evaluating the candidates on all the milestones a final merit list will be prepared and it will be uploaded on the institute’s official website. Then, the eligible candidates have to report themselves in-person for the other formalities of allocation of seats.

FEE STRUCTURE:

All the seven IIMs that offer part-time MBA program charge a very nominal amount of program fees from the candidates, which makes it a student-friendly institute in India. The latest fees charge by different IIMs throughout the country is mentioned below in the table:

In all the IIMs the course fee and other essential fees should be paid in instalments through Debit/ Credit card, NEFT/ RTGS, Net Banking, etc and it the first instalment should be paid on time for the confirmation of Admission.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

All the IIMs in our country provides various scholarships schemes like Merit-based scholarships which are only awarded to the meritorious batch toppers of each program and some scholarship schemes are for the students who belonged to the EWS category. But, most of the scholarship schemes are only applicable to the students of a Full-time regular program.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Nowadays, each student wants to pursue a management program from prestigious institutions like IIM, but to get a seat in IIMs the students have to full-fill the eligibility criteria listed below:

  • The candidates should be graduated with a minimum of 50% of marks in any discipline as per the 10 + 2 + 3 norms.
  • All the candidates should have a work experience of 2 – 5 years (depending on the particular IIM).
  • Candidates should have a valid GMAT/ GRE/ CAT / IIM entrance score.

There is no upper age limit in applying for the part-time MBA at any of the seven IIMs.

MORE ABOUT PART-TIME MBA:

The part-time MBA program is offered by several IIMs situated in our country and it is mainly designed for the working individuals who have an experience of more than 2 years, and even they want to enhance their qualification level but the attending regular classes are not possible for them, therefore part-time MBA program is a solution for those intellectuals.

At all the IIMs the duration of this course is of 2 years only and the classes are organised on the weekends from Friday to Sunday. The timings of the classes will depend on the campus in which the candidate is applying for.

Some IIMs provide General Management degree in a part-time MBA, but some IIMs like IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Kashipur provides specialization in the same. Also, there are more than 500 seats available for the part-time MBA program in total, of IIMs.
