What is MHCET?
MH CET stands for Maharashtra Common Entrance Exam and is conducted by DTE Maharashtra. On writing this exam students get a chance to pursue their education is all of the colleges located in Maharashtra that are affiliated to Directorate of Technical Education Maharashtra.
Through this exam, candidates can get an admission into engineering, pharmacy or pharm D courses.
According to various reports, in 2017 around 3.89 lakh students took the exam making it one of the most sought-after state exam. Here is a summary of the important details of the exam:
All the institutions affiliated to DTE Maharashtra consider MH CET and give admissions based on this exam. The following are few of the colleges:
- PR Patil College of Engineering and Technology, Amravati
- Government College of Engineering, Amaravati
- Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering
- Pratap Institute of Management and technology
- Bhonsla College of Engineering and Research and more
Mostly, all the colleges affiliated with the Government of Maharashtra accept the MH CET scores.
Structure of MHCET exam
The exam is divided into three papers – paper-1 deals with mathematics, paper-2 is a combination of chemistry and physics and paper-3 is a combination of botany and zoology.
The syllabus of the exam follows the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) and hence students are asked to prepare accordingly. The questions will only be from the 11th and 12th grade portions and the conducting authorities also specify the number of questions that will be asked from each grade’s portions.
There is a time limit for each paper – candidates should complete each paper within 90 minutes.
Paper | Subjects | Number of questions from class 11 | Number of questions from class 12 | Marks | Duration |
Paper 1 | Mathematics | 10 | 50 | 100 | 90 minutes |
Paper 2 | Physics | 10 | 50 | 50 | 90 minutes |
Chemistry | 10 | 50 | 50 | ||
Paper 3 | Botany | 10 | 50 | 50 | 90 minutes |
Zoology | 10 | 50 | 50 |
However, it should be noted that only MH CET marks alone is not going to help the candidate secure an admission into the affiliated colleges. Since 2016, the government has decided to give 50% weight age to 12th grade score and 50% weight age to the MH CET score, making it an even split.
Aspirants expecting to enter the engineering stream have to attend Paper-1 and Paper-2. Candidates seeking an admission into pharmacy have to write paper 2 and can either opt to write paper-1 or paper-3.
The exam is conducted only in the offline mode. The questions asked in the exam will only be an objective type where candidates will be given an OMR sheet and will be asked to mark the answers.
