Overview:

MH-CET or Maharashtra Common Entrance Test is conducted by the government of Maharashtra for admission to postgraduate management programs. This is a computer based test organised by Department of technical education, Maharashtra. The scores of this test are considered by the institutes of Maharashtra while taking admission in courses such as PGDM/MMS/MBA/PGDBM.

Exam Structure:

The exam consists of 200 objective type questions to be answered in 150 minutes. The question paper consists of questions which test the student mainly on three parameters i.e. their verbal ability, Quantitative Aptitude and logical reasoning. The number of questions asked in each section are as follows:

  • Verbal ability 35
  • Reading comprehension 15
  • Quantitative analysis 14
  • Data interpretation 20
  • Data sufficiency 15
  • Analytical reasoning 51
  • Verbal reasoning 20
  • Non-verbal reasoning 30

Each question needs to be solved in apporximately a minute. One can also try guessing as there is no negative marking in the exam. Question paper is unique for every student and any student can appear for this exam as many time as he/she likes.

Eligibility Criteria:

Every candidate who registers for MH-CET and pays the required fees is entitled to appear for the examination provided he/she meets the minimum eligibility criteria.

The minimum criteria laid down by the government of Maharashtra states that the candidate appearing for MH-CET must have completed his graduation with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in his final examination . Student belonging to SC/ST/OBC cateogories will get a further relaxation of 5%. The Bachelor’s degree obtained should be of minimum three year duration and should be awarded by the university recognised by UGC.

How To Apply

The Maharashtra government provides a very simple and easy approach for registering and appearing for this examintion. Candidates first need to visit this web page http://www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in/mba2014/StaticPages/HomePage.aspx and register for the examination. After their registration is complete students will be provided a provisional registration number and password which will be used for further steps and communication.

After this you will need to log in to your account and pay the examination fee of Rs. 1000 either through online mode or through offline mode. Online payment can be made through credit/debit card and the offline payment can be made by depositing amount in any of the Axis bank branches.

After all these steps are completed the students would receive a unique MH-CET login Id and password which will be used for choosing the test centre and date.

Admission Procedure

Once the registration for this program is complete the student will be required to appear for various stages which are:

  • Appearing for MH-CET on the selected date and location.
  • Based on the scores obtained the candidate would be alloted institutes in the CAP rounds.
  • Once the institute has been alloted the candidate would be required to appear at the institute in person for GD and PI rounds.
  • If he or she clears the round and is selected the candidate would then submit all his document for final verification.
  • After all the documents are verified the candidate would be awarded admission in the institute.

Syllabus For Examination

The MH-CET is an objective type examination which does not contain any descriptive section. This is a computer based test which is organised at various centres on various dates. This question paper is different for every person but the difficulty level is same. The syllabus which is primarily covered in this examination is:

  • Reading and Comprehension Skills: This area primarily tests that how well are your versed with the english language. Topics primarily covered in this section include basic grammar, sentence completion , antonyms and synonyms etc.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: This section is primarily focussed on testing your aptitude. Question related to graphs , numbers , ratio and proportion and Data Interpretation are asked.
  • Logical Reasoning: This section is intended to test how well can one apply logic to the problems. It primarily contains questions belonging to the concept of linear programming, symbol based computation, conditional coding, venn diagrams and series completions.

Important Dates:

MH-CET is conducted once a year generally during the month of March. After this the counselling process begins which usually lasts for about four months. Some of the important dates to be remembered are:

  • Second Counselling – 7-7-2015
  • Third and Last Counselling – 27-7-2015

Results

The result of MH-CET are usually declared within a week of adminitering the test. The result can be checked on the official website of the DTE http://www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in/MBA2015/StaticPages/frmImportantDates.aspx .

Score Validity

The MH-CET has the score validity of one year. Which means you can only apply for admission in the MBA program once using the MH-CET score in a particular year. If you need to apply for the program another year then you need to appear again for the examination. You can appear for the exam as many times as you like as there is no restriction on number of attempts.

Reservation and Seat Distribution

Although admission is done based purely on merit, but some of the seats are reserved for backward classes of society and the foreign nationals. Under no circumstances are these seats allotted to the other cateogary of candidates. Around 15% of the seats are reserved for the children of Foreign Nationals. Some seats are reserved for the local candidates of Maharashtra, although they can be allotted to the other state candidates if not filled.

Counselling and Admission Procedure

After the declaration of the result of MH-CET the students according to the merit list are awarded allocated institutes. The student alongwith all his documents in required to appear in person at the institute for GD and PI round. The final admission is based on the total score of the GD, PI and CET. After the candidate has succesfully passed all these rounds he/she is required to submit all his documents for verificaton only after which final admission is granted.
