What is NATA?

NATA stands for National Aptitude Test for Architecture. It has been conducted by the Council of Architecture. It was first held in 2006. It is a single day national level admission test for pursuing 5 years undergraduation course in Architecture in India.

According to the Council of Architecture’s rule, aspirant should get 40% marks in NATA test to get into this 5 years BArch/B planning course. It is an essential test for taking admission to any Architecture college/university in India.

Structure of NATA exam

NATA Examination is divided into 2 parts. 1) Mathematics & General Aptitude Test, 2) Drawing Test

Part 1 of the test is a computer base test or online mode test and second part of the test is a paper -pencil test or offline test.

Duration of the Test: total 3 hours or 180 minutes test. 90 min. for first half and last 90 min for second half.

First part of the test i.e. Mathematics & General Aptitude Test: All questions are MCQ type(Multiple Choice Question). In this part you can get total 60 questions. Out of which 30 questions are from Mathematics section and other 30 are from General Aptitude. For each correct answer, a candidate can get 2 marks.

The best part of this test is that there is no negative marking system. A candidate should get 25% i.e. 30 marks out of 120 in this first part of the test. Candidate is given 60-90 second for per question.

Second part of the test: In the second part of the test you can get 2 questions. Each with 40 marks. Each question again has two sub parts. In this section a candidate should get 25% marks i.e. 20 out of 80. NATA is total 200 marks examination.

The purpose of this examination is to measure the aptitude of applicants for a specific field of study i.e. Architecture. Moreover, NATA score is used by admission authorities of different government and government-aided colleges of Architectures all over the India.

We have already mentioned that the whole syllabus of the NATA examination is divided into 2 parts:

  • Mathematics &General Aptitude Test
  • Drawing test

In the Mathematics part syllabus consists of Algebra, Logarithms, matrices, Trigonometry, Theory of Calculus, Application of Calculus, Probability, Permutation and Combination, Statics, Coordinate geometry etc.

In the General aptitude part, syllabus consists of Analytical reasoning, Mental ability, Visualizing different sides of Objects, General awareness, National & International Architects and famous Architectural creations, interpretation of pictorial compositions etc.

In drawing part, A candidate should know about the drawing patterns both geometrical and abstract.

NATA 2018 Eligibility Criteria

The lower age limit of NATA 2018 has been waived off. Candidate may come from the following background.

  • 10+2 or equivalent examination of central/state Govt. with minimum 50% aggregate marks and with Mathematics as one of the subject of the examination.
  • 10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognized by central/state Govt. with 50% aggregate marks and with Mathematics as one of the subject of the examination.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma passed /appearing, after 10 years of schooling with 50 % marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as one of the subject of the examination.

According to the Council of Architecture, in NATA Examination, Reservation is a prerogative of the admission /counseling authority does not fall under the purview of this examination.

Application forms and submission procedure

Candidate need to visit the above-mentioned portal and CLICK the requisite link ONLINE APPLICATION NATA-2018 and thereafter will be directed to the actual application form. In the application form you can find different sub sections.

There are 3 simple steps to fill up the form

  1. Filling of application form(Personal details)
  2. Document uploading
  3. Fee payment

Step-1: Filling of application form

Registration process:

For registration candidate first needs to visit NATA portal Then, he/she has to CLICK on REGISTER NOW button after that you can enter into login page.

Again, you need to click Register now button for signing up the User Account Registration. Fill the mandatory fields and click on sign up. Once you have successfully signed up click on login to continue. Then login to your credential. (To create your credentials, you need to give a login ID and password)

Submission of form:

After login to NATA -2018 portal with credential you need to click on Apply now button which will be directed to the application form. Then you need to fill the mandatory field.

After that, you need to upload the required documents (recent passport size colour photograph, own signature, for SC/ST candidate SC/ST certificate) which is subject to verification.

Then you need to click on the preview button to preview your filled-up application form. Then you need to click on submit button. After submission of form no changes can be made in the form. So you have to be very careful while filling up the form.

Step-2: Document Uploading

Here you should remember that your uploading document should be matched with below mentioned size.

  • Photograph: Max size 100 kb. Minimum 4 kb(JPEG OR JPG)
  • Signature: Maximum 30 kb and minimum 1 kb(JPEG OR JPG)
  • Community certificate: maximum 100 kb and minimum 5 kb(A4 format)

Step-3: Application fee

For General and OBC category application fee is Rs 1800/ and for SC/ST category it is 1500.

For application fee payment you can do it through State Bank of India/ Bill desk payment gateway. As per the candidate’s convenience he/she can choose any of the options to pay the application fee through electronic payment gateway via debit card, credit card or net banking and follow the online instruction to complete the payment process.

After successful payment, the payment gateway will redirect to candidate’s homepage. After successful fee payment, the candidate can able to take a print out the final confirmation page. He candidate should keep it for future reference.

Admit Card

The Council of Architecture will issue the admit card to those who successfully register for the NATA 2018. The candidate can get the admit card on 2nd April, 2018.

The candidate can download the soft copy of the admit card from this website and has to take a print out of it.

Steps to download the admit card

  • To download Admit card candidate first need to go on the login panel.
  • After that candidate needs to enter some details like Application number, password, security code (display on the screen) to login.
  • After that Admit card will appear on the screen. The candidate needs to take a print out of it. The candidate should produce printed copy of admit card, along with some other documents like original photograph (same as uploaded), and one photo identity proof (voter card, pan card, Aadhar card, or driving license.)
  • Along with the NATA Admit card 2018, an examination roll number will also be generated.

Admission Procedure

After you score well in NATA you can proceed for the admission procedure. There are almost 400 plus colleges /universities which accept NATA score. These colleges /universities will hold the counselling differently. Eligibility criteria also varies from state to state.

To participate in the counselling, the candidate need to apply to their preferred colleges/universities to take the admission procedure further. Apart from the NATA score candidates should meet the eligibility criteria of different colleges/universities to take participate in counselling. NATA score will be valid up to 2 years.

NATA Result

The result of NATA 2018 will be announced by Council of Architecture (COA) on June 1, 2018 in three formats as shown below:

  • Merit listing – unique based on marks and tie-breaking rules.
  • Marks obtained out of 200 and in each component.
  • Percentile score as per the merit listing.

The NATA 2018 score card can be accessed by applying the login credentials and the corresponding password. Candidates are requested to keep a copy of the score card while admitting for counselling.

The scorecard of the NATA 2018 consists of the following details:

  • Name
  • Roll Number
  • Registration Number
  • Marks within each section
  • The total marks obtained
  • The Merit secured by the candidate
  • The percentile obtained

Cut-Off

The cutoff of NATA 2018 will not be displayed by Council of Architecture officially since every institute offering B.Arch. programme and admission on the basis of NATA scores releases its own targeted cutoff for candidates.

The NATA 2018 cutoff will be the minimum marks which are crucial for admission in that particular institute and therefore it varies from institute to institute depending on certain factors like number of seats in the given institute, the difficulty level of the exam, the previous year’s cutoff trends etc.

Candidates will be considered as qualified in NATA 2018 only if they fulfil all three conditions mentioned below:

  • Overall qualifying marks (out of 200) would be based on post-exam statistics as per the discretion of the Council.
  • A minimum 25% must be secured in MCQ portion (30 out of 120)
  • A minimum 25% must be secured in Drawing portion (20 out of 80)

Score Validity

The validity of the examination score stands for the particular academic year only. Hence, the validity of NATA 2018 score will be for the academic year 2018-19 only.

Every candidate will get only one chance to write NATA for a particular academic year. Request for multiple attempts in any scenario will not be entertained by the exam conducting body.

Reservation/Seat Distribution

NATA-2018 is a qualifying examination where a general merit list will be published along with score of the candidate. Reservation is the right of the admission/ counselling authority and this examination holds no effect to it.

However, candidates with specific disability of colour blindness may be debarred from admission to B. Arch. Course, as per the given policy of the respective institution/ University.

NATA does not have a specific counselling schedule. Therefore the following states will be hosting the NATA 2018 counselling along with their available number of seats are shown below:
