Fee Structure Of IITM, Chennai-Indian Institute Of Technology Madras

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (Chennai), one of the greatest and the best centers of Engineering Education in India was established in 1959. It was the third IIT to be established by the Government of India by an act of parliament.

It is a residential university and occupies an area of 2.5 km². Enshrined with the motto “Siddhirbhavati Karmaja” meaning “Success is born out of Action: IIT-M (Madras) has strength of 8000 students.

The IIT Chennai has been ranked 1^st in Engineering and 2^nd overall by the NIRF in 2017.

The campus maintains one of the biggest libraries in Tamil Nadu, with millions of books, e-journals, video cassettes, thesis, project reports, etc.

Shaastra is an annual technical festival which is held generally in the second week of Januaryand is the first ISO 9001:2000 certified student festival in the world.

The Open Air Theatre with seating capacity of 7000 hosts the weekly movies which is a popular Saturday night tradition.

There are 20 hostels for the students with all the modern facilities like WiFi, Geysers, Water-purifiers, common rooms, televisions and many indoor games.

Application and Admission Procedure

How to apply

• The interested eligible candidate first need to register themselves by visiting the official website of the respective exams like for JEE Advanced the candidate need to visit the official website of JEE Advanced, for JAM exam they need to go to the official website of JAM etc. and clicking on the Application Online option.
• Fill up the application form by entering their nationality, date of birth, email ID, Address, mobile no. After that, they need to upload required documents such as the scanned copy of the recent coloured photograph, their signature, left-hand thumb impression (applicable only for Advance), all testimonials, category certificate etc.
• Make payment through Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking. Application fee varies from course to course like JEE Advanced which is a gateway of all B.Tech programmes-

• The candidates need to download the Admit card from official website of respective exam.Then they need to click on Admit Card link.

Admission Process

Admission process varies from programme to programme. For getting admission in BTech programmes the candidates need to clear JEE Advanced then Counselling.

For M.Tech, M.Sc, Humanities and Social Science candidates need to clear GATE, JAM and HSEE respectively.

Hostel and Facilities

The campus of Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) covers nearly 250 hectares of land. The campus consists of three different zones:

• Academic zone
• Hostel
• Residential

The campus is rich in flora and fauna and is surrounded by a healthy and eco-friendly environment. There are bicycles and battery powered buses available for the students to travel within the campus.

IIT Madras provides hostel facilities to both boys and girls, Sabarmati (for girls) and Sarayu (for boys). It provides single rooms as well as sharing rooms according to the choice of the student; the hostel fee may vary accordingly.

The hostel life is great with facilities like 24 hours water supply, medical facility, Wi-Fi connectivity, security, etc. There is a separate mess for hostel students and there are common rooms for both boy and girls separately. There are sports, healthcare, shopping, post office and bank facilities available within the campus.

There is a separate Students Activities Centre (SAC) for indoor games. Hostel events like Choreo-Nite and Fresher’s Nite and annual events of the college are organized in SAC.

The institute is also active in organizing outdoor games like – IIT sports meet, cricket tournament and Gerhard Fischer & Kokila Rajaiah Tournament (GFKR). A student living here gets to learn a lot beyond academics and the institution proves equal opportunity in extracurricular activities.
