About the Institute and course
IMI Kolkata, that is, the International Management Institute Kolkata was established in the year 1981. The Institute aspires to become a world-wide renowned centre of excellence with regard to management education. The institute offers a full-time postgraduate diploma program in management that is approved by AICTE.
Application Procedure
The candidates are required to submit an online form along with the non-refundable application fee. The applicant also has to submit other essential documents along with this application form. These shall be pertaining to the academic record and CAT/CMAT/XAT/GMAT Score.
It should be noted that the fee for the application form is INR 1000.
Admission procedure
IMI follows a detailed admission process. The candidates who have applied online are shortlisted depending on the following information provided in the application form:
- CAT/CMAT/XAT/GMAT Score
- Academic record
As a part of the admission process, the candidates are further shortlisted for the individual assessment process. The individual assessment process includes a personal interview and essay writing. The personal interview is conducted wherein the applicant is assessed on the following basis:
- Interpersonal skills and communication
- General Awareness
- Cognitive and problem-solving skills
- Domain knowledge
- Future potential for employability
Selection Process
The previous academic records, applicants’ performance in the individual assessment and other essential factors such as extra-curricular activities and quality of work experience play a role in the selection process.
Further, the Institute holds the right for modifying these components while communicating to the candidates at the individual assessment stage. The aim is to identify and assess the candidate's potential for a career in management.
The final selection of the applicants is dependent upon the following factors:

Eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for getting admission to the post-graduate Diploma in management are given below:
- The applicant should have attained at least 50% marks in classes 10th and 12th
- The applicant must have a Bachelor's comparable degree with an aggregate score of at least 50% or equivalent in any field. The degree should be from a recognized University in India or abroad. (The recognition should be from UGC/Association of Indian Universities)
- The Bachelor's degree or the comparable qualification attained by the applicant must be for at least 3 years of education after completing the higher secondary schooling as per the 10+2 system or comparable.
- The applicants who are currently in their final year of a Bachelor's degree or comparable are also qualified for applying however they ought to have proof of fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria by 30th September 2023. In case the candidates fail to do so they can be asked to withdraw from the program.
It should be noted that fulfilling the eligibility criteria does not ensure that the candidate is selected by IMI Kolkata.

Self-sponsored candidates
The self-sponsored candidates include either the ones who are fresh graduates or those who have worked for a few years but quit their job before joining IMI. The placement cell of the Institute provides support to these candidates on a best-effort basis.
Company sponsored candidates
The candidates who are sponsored by their organizations do not qualify for receiving any placement support for IMIs’ placement cell.

IMI Kolkata has attained various ranks over the years for management education. These ranks are mentioned below:

This grant is dependent upon ‘Certificate of Undertaking’ that the student has to provide along with the merit list of scores attained by these students. The various documents that play an important role in this grant attainment are:
- Family’s’ income certificate. The income from all the sources should not be more than INR 8 lakhs.
- PAN Number
- Local authority such as the block councillors’ validation regarding income related documents.
- Self-declaration certificate mentioning that the provided information is true.
- Economically Weaker ‘letter from the office of Sub-Division Officer’/proof of income
