IGNOU Distance MBA Eligibility Criteria 2024
What is IGNOU?
IGNOU- stands for Indira Gandhi National Open University and has it’s headquarter in New Delhi. It is a National University for Distance Learning set up in the year 1985.
Most interestingly, it is the largest university in respect of the number of enrollment in the world. It has 67 regional centres throughout the country. It offers quite a huge number of courses in many disciplines.
In one hand, it offers Certificate courses in many disciplines like Certificate in NGO Management, Certificate in Performing and Visual arts, Certificate in Power Distribution Management, Certificate in Newborn and Infant care etc in other hands, it offers many Undergraduate courses, Master Degree Courses, Diploma Courses and MPhil/ Doctorate programs.
Admission procedure:
Admission procedures vary from program to program. The candidates who want to take admission in their desired courses in IGNOU first need to collect the Application form. It is important to note that, every year there are two academic sessions in IGNOU, one in January and another one in July.
For January session the admission procedure starts from October 1 and for July session the admission procedure starts from 1st March.
The candidates who want to take admission in their desired courses in IGNOU can choose any of the above-mentioned admission sessions. All the eligible candidates can apply for applying for IGNOU admission2018 latest by 31st December 2017.
Application process
The candidate can get the application form along with the Prospectus through both online and offline mode. But the foreign nationals need to take application form in offline mode only. Only Indian nationals can access online application process.
To get the application form along with prospectus through online mode the candidate needs to download it from IGNOU’s official website, https://onlineadmission.ignou,ac.in
In this case, the candidate needs to send duly filled up application form along with the DD (Demand Draft)(Rs 1050 for MBA course, and 250 for other courses) in favour of IGNOU, payable at New Delhi.
The candidates can get the application form at the sale counter of the regional centres or in IGNOU Head Quarter. In that case, they need to pay only Rs 1000/ for MBA course and Rs 200 for other courses). They can also get it by post. Those who get the application form and prospectus by post or in person they need not send DD as they need to pay the amount at the time of purchasing the application form along with prospectus.
- For now, SAARC countries students IGNOU receives all fees in USD only.
- The candidates need to keep a photocopy of duly filled up application form for future reference.
Eligibility Criteria
Before filling up the form the candidates need to check eligibility criteria for their desired courses.

For some courses like MBA, BEd, MCA work experience is mandatory.

(again it varies from course to course) Certificate in Business skills,, Community Radio,Consumer protection,Disaster management,Functional English, environmental studies,Value education,Health Care Waste Management, HIV and Family Education , International Humanitarian Law , Anti Human Trafficking , Cooperation and Co-Operative Law, Human rights,Nutrition and Child Care,organic Farming, Arabic language ,Tourism studies, -12 the pass or equivalent/ BPP(bachelor of Preparatory program) from IGNOU required. For some certificate courses like Arts and Karnataka /Hindustani music,Performing arts and Theatre etc 10th pass is required. For Certificate in rural development, Social work and Criminal Justice system Bachelor degree are required.

| · For Doctorate or Mphil programme | · the candidates need to get at least 55% marks in their Master degree from any recognized university. For SC/ST/OBC candidates they need to get minimum 45% marks in their Master degree from any recognized university. And the candidates need to clear the entrance test like UGC/CSIR conducted by the university. Those who have MPhil degree or cleared NET/GATE or have minimum 5 years of experience in teaching in the respective field need not sit for an entrance examination. |
For MBA aspirants
1) they need to get at least 50% marks in their Graduation from any recognized university/institutes. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, they need to have minimum 45% marks in Graduation from any recognized university/institutes.
2) Either the candidates need to have 3 years of work experience at the managerial level or they need have any professional degree.
3) Like other courses offered by IGNOU, for MBA course also there is no age limit.
4) IGNOU conducts an entrance test called OPENMAT twice in a year( 1 is for January session and 2nd is for July session). To get admission in MBA programme in IGNOU the candidates need to clear this examination.
The above-mentioned eligibility criterion is applicable for Indian nationals only. For Foreign nationals below mentioned eligibility criteria are applicable.
- The candidates should have valid student VISA for the entire duration of the course.
- The candidates should have clearance from the Ministry of External affairs/HRD Ministry.
Admit Card/Hall Ticket
IGNOU starts issuing Admit Card 10 days before the exam. The candidates need to download it from the official website, www.ignou.ac.in
The result of Entrance Test for MBA course: The aspirants can see the result at the official website www.ignou.ac.in. The scorecard of individual candidates also is sent by IGNOU.
Admission Procedure
After getting qualifying marks in the entrance test the candidates need to fill up Form no.2 available in the prospectus send it to the IGNOU regional director along with the following documents.
- Attested Photocopies of all educational certificates
- Original copy of the OPENMAT scorecard
- Original copy of Admit card/Hall Ticket
- Category Certificate(Only for SC/ST/OBC candidates)
- Experience Certificate
- Identity Card(duly filled up) which is available in the last pages of the prospectus
- The candidates need to send DD or Bank Challan drew in favour of IGNOU payable at their nearest Regional Centre
After registering for admission the candidates need to start attending the counselling procedure.
The Candidates those who want to specialize their MBA they can also do it here in various fields like IT ( Information Technology, Banking, HR etc). Apart from these, IGNOU also offers Diploma in Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Management. The candidates need to get qualifying marks in OPENMAT for entering into these courses also.
Fee structure
Fee structure of PG Diploma in General Management programme is Rs 16500/( Total fees). Fee for PG Diploma in Specialized management is Rs 7500/ and Total fee for Diploma in management is Rs 7500/.

Per course fee is 1500
(1500*2=31000)= Total cost of MBA Programme
The fee structure for MBA Program (Foreign nationals):
Foreign students are divided into 2 categories.
These categories are-
- Students from SAARC countries
- Students from NON-SAARC countries
Students from SAARC countries: Fee structure for this kind of students (3000*21=63,000)
Students from NON-SAARC countries: Fee structure for this kind of students (USD 250*21= USD5250)
For the year 2017, the last date of submission of Form (for January Session) was 15/07/2017 and (for July session) was 15/12/2017. Examination date ((for January Session) was 20/8/2017 and (for July session) was 4/2/2018.
