Tamil Nadu Open University was founded in 2002 by the Government of Tamil Nadu for introduction and promotion of Open learning and Distance education . With a cumulative strength of 5,29,263 in 134 programs of study across various different levels from Certificate courses to Postgraduate courses through 13 academic school, 5 support divisions, 1 media centre and a network of 400 Learner Support and Service Centres across the state.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
The admission process is throughout the under two admission cycles i.e Calendar year(Jan-June) and Academic Year(July-Dec).The admission procedure is conducted both online and offline. For the online application, before starting the admission process, ensure you have the following ready-
- A valid email address
- A valid phone number
- JPEG file of highest qualification certificate (Class 10/ Class 12/ Degree/ Diploma)
- Community certificate for the students who want to avail the scholarship
- Scanned files of recent colour photograph, signature, and qualification certificates
- Payment mode of credit card/ debit card/ internet banking
ONLINE PROCEDURE
FVisit http://online.tnou.ac.in/dashboard. Create an account with the university, and after receiving the login details on your email address, log in to your dashboard. Fill all the details carefully, click the ‘Save’ button. Review the information once, and then click on ‘Apply Now’. The application fill be saved in ‘Draft’. Click on it, search your application, and then click on ‘Add to Cart’. Go to your cart, press ‘Confirm to Pay’ and then ‘Pay Now’. Choose your preferred payment mode and pay the fees using it.
OFFLINE PROCEDURE
Obtain admission form from University Sales Counter, Study Centres or Zonal Centres on payment of Rs. 100. For receiving prospectus and admission form by post, mail a demand draft of Rs. 150/- drawn in favour of Tamil Nadu Open University payable at Chennai to Deputy Registrar, MPDD, TNOU, 577, Anna Salai, Saidapet, Chennai– 600 015.
Carefully fill in the admission forms after reading instructions. Copies of relevant certificates, photograph and signature of candidate should be duly attested by Gazetted officer/ notary/ teaching or non teaching staff (assistant registrar and above) of Tamil Nadu Open University/ Principals of Colleges/ Headmaster or Headmistress of Government or Government Recognised high schools.
For payment of fees, use the remittance challan form included in the prospectus. Pay the fee at any branch of State Bank of India or Indian Bank. Retain the Student Copy of challan and include TNOU Copy with the application package. Submit the package to the Study Centre or Admissions Wing of the University by post or in person.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Adidravidar and Tribal Welfare (ADW), SC / ST students pursuing distance education (formal stream) are eligible for reimbursement of the non-refundable fees if they are not employed and if the annual income of their parents does not exceed Rs 1,00,000/. Interested students should obtain required form from Offices of AdiDravidar/Tribal Welfare Department. Apply with this form and supporting information (applicant’s Savings Bank Account No., Name of the Bank, Branch, etc.) to the Director, SSSD, TNOU, after University fees are paid. Scholarship will be disbursed after due scrutiny by respective Government departments.
Differently-abled students pursuing a Programme at the University are eligible for tuition fee exemption. The candidate shall apply in the prescribed Application Form, for admission along with the core banking challan for Rs.300/- enclosing a copy of the disability certificate.

APPROVAL/ACCREDITATION
The university has been accorded approval by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
It has also been accredited by Distance Education Bureau [DEB], National Council for Teacher Education [NCTE], Rehabilitation Council of India [RCI]. It is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). All its vocational programs have been made compliant with National Vocation Educational Qualification Network (NVEQN). It also has affiliations with Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) and International Council for Distance and Open learning (ICDE).
