What is NEET PG?
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduates (NEET-PG) is a national level single entrance examination to various MD/MS and PG Diploma courses in India.
It enables admissions to all Government, Private and Deemed medical colleges throughout the country. It is organized by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) every year. It is conducted on a single day across 41 cities and was held on 7th January 2018 this year.
Structure of NEET PG exam
The exam is conducted only through online (computer based) mode. It is held on a single day just once in a year. The entrance test was scheduled on 7th January 2018.
- Duration: The test duration is 3 hours 30 minutes.
- Sections: The paper has three sections – Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical and Clinical. In total, the paper is distributed subject wise into 15 sections and the number of questions varies in these sections. All the questions are of multiple choice type (MCQ). The duration of the paper is limited to 3.5 hours.
- Marks: The total number of questions is 300 and all of them are multiple choice type (MCQ). Each correct answer is 1 marks. There is negative marking and 25% marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
- Medium: The exam is conducted only in English medium.

NEET PG 2018 Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
Candidate must be an Indian citizen or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
Academic Qualification
- Candidate must possess the MBBS degree or a provisional degree recognized by the Medical Council of India.The candidates who have cleared the MBBS degree from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir will not be getting seats under the All India Quota. The candidates who have been allotted government medical colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are eligible for the All India 50% Quota.
The candidates who have done the MBBS degree from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir must provide the duly signed affidavit stating that the admission was through the centralized counseling, along with the print out of the acknowledgment of submission of NEET PG Application Form.Work Experience
- The candidate should also have 1 year of experience certificate by March 31, 2017.
Other requirements/restrictions
- The candidates who are pursuing the PG degree from their college or any other college or university cannot apply for the PG program again in their college.
- The candidates can go through the NEET PG registration process only once.
Application forms and submission procedure
The application form for NEET PG 2018 was available from 31st October, 2017 to 27th November, 2017.
A student can apply only through both online mode.
The application fee is Rs 3750 for General/OBC category candidates and Rs 2750 for SC/ST and other reserved category.
For the payment of application fee, the candidate has to:
- Pay the Application fee through Net Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card.
While applying online, the candidates need to have the following documents ready for reference and/or submission:
- Mark sheet of 10th and 12thas may be required
- MCI/SMC certificate
- Scanned latest photograph
- Scanned latest signature
- Category certificate if belonging to SC/ST category
The last date of form submission was 27th November,2017. Any correction to be made must be done before the last date of registration.
After successful submission of the form, the candidate will receive an E-mail and SMS regarding successful submission of the form. This can be used for future reference. Also the candidate needs to get a print out of the online application form after submitting it successfully.
Thus the complete procedure to fill the Application Form is mentioned below:
Step-1: Registration
- Go to the official website www.nbe.edu.in
- Select ‘NEET PG’.
- Read all the instructions and click on ‘Proceed to apply online’.
- Enter name, gender, parent’s name and valid e-mail ID.
- Click ‘Submit’.
- Create a profile using user name, password and secret reminder question.
Step-2: Filling up of details
- Login using the Login ID and password to continue.
- The various section of details have to be filled:
- Personal Details: Name, Father’s name, Date of Birth, State, Gender, Category, Address, PWD status.
- Academic Details: Details of Class 10th and 12th examination such as subjects, total marks obtained, aggregate marks in percentage, name of the board and year of pass out.
- Communication Details: House number, Locality, City, District, Pin code, Mobile number, e-mail ID.
Step-3: Uploading of Images
The scanned image of passport size photograph and signature in JPG/ JPEG format has to be uploaded and it should be of 10-30 KB.MCI/SMC certificate must be uploaded and its size should not exceed 500 KB.
Step-4: Scheduling the Exam
Select the exam location, test center and the preferred date and time of the examination.
Step-5: Payment of Fees
After filling the application form, the fee is paid through Net Banking/ Credit Card/ Debit Card. Enter the details required and pay Rs 3750 for General/OBC category and Rs 2750 for SC/ST/PWD/PH.
Step-6: Print out of Application Form
After successfully filling the complete application form, the candidate must take a print out of the form for future reference. The Admit Card will also be available within 24 hours in the registered e-mail ID.
Admit Card
The admit cards have been released on 31st December 2017 and they can be accessed online by candidates whose applications have been accepted. They will not be sent physically to any address.
In order to access the Admit Card, the candidate needs to follow the following steps:
- Go to the official website. Click on Admit Card tab.
- Now click on ‘NEET PG 2018 Admit Card’.
- You will be redirected to a log in page.
- Enter your log in details such as Log in ID and password and then click on Sign in.
- On successful sign in, the admit card will be displayed on the computer screen.
- Then download and save the admit card. Take a print out of the same for future reference.

The Admit Card contains the following details:
- Registration number
- Medium of Language
- Name of the Candidate
- Parent/ Guardian’s name
- Roll number of the candidate
- Gender
- Venue Address
- Examination Date and Time
- Subject for which exam is to be taken
- Slot wise division of exam
The candidate must paste a recent photograph on the admit card. The size of the photograph should be 35*45 mm. The name and date of photograph should be mentioned on the photograph. The resolution of photograph should be 600 dpi and it should be on a white or light background.
A candidate must carry his/her admit card along with a photo identity proof (Aadhaar Card/ Voter ID Card/ Passport/ PAN Card/ Driving License) otherwise he/she will not be allowed to take the exam.He /She is also required to carry the photocopy of Provisional certificate of MCI/SMC and a photograph of self, pasted on the Admit card in the required format.
Admission Procedure
Once the exam is over, the results are declared (31st January 2018).The results are announced on the official website. The candidates then have to follow the following steps:
- Visit the official website.
- Go to the admission link from the sidebar and visit the NEET PG page based on the exam applied by the candidate.
- Go to the check result log in.
- Enter the registration number given to you at the time of application and date of birth.
- The result will appear on the screen.
- The candidates should download it as it will be required during counselling and final admission.
The marks will be published for all those who appeared in the test. The total marks scored and the qualifying status of each candidate will be mentioned. The score card will be available individually and only in online mode. The cut off score for All India 50% quota seats is also announced and merit list will be declared.

Notification
Notification informing release of admission process for NEET PG 2018 was published in the official website of IPCET on October 30th 2017.
The notification states that the application for admission starts from 31st October and that the exams will be held on 7th January 2018. You can see the notification in the following link:
Syllabus
The syllabus of NEET PG is in compliance with the Graduate Medical Education Regulations issued by the MCI (Medical Council of India). The NEET-PG examination consist of 300 multiple choice questions.
The time allotted will be 3hr 30minutes, there will be no negative marking for wrong answers. Given below is the subject-wise distribution of marks:

NEET PG Result
The results of NEET PG 2018 was published on 23rd January 2018. Candidates can check it by logging into the result portal of the site using their login credentials.
Cut-Off
Cut-off mark is the minimum percentage of marks required by a candidate to be considered for counselling. These marks determine the candidate’s admission to various medical colleges. The cut off marks will be dependent on the type of course and no. of candidates, etc.
After considering various factors various institutions will roll out their cut off mark. Given below is the cut off for NEET PG 2018:

During the year 2018 over 5000 candidates appeared for NEET PG 2018. The cut-off for NEET 2018 general category is 321, for SC/ST/OBC/SC- PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH, it is and for 281 while for PH candidates it is 300.
Madhan from Tamil Nadu who pursued MBBS in Government Madurai Medical College is the topper for NEET PG 2018 according to NBE (National Board of Examinations). The candidate scored 925 marks out of 1200.
Score Validity
The validity of NEET PG score card is one year from the announcement of results. This means that candidates have a year to get admission in colleges before losing the validity of the score card.
Reservation/Seat Distribution
The list of Post Graduate seats is approved by the MCI (Medical Council of India). NEET-PG for the academic session 2018 includes the following:
- All India 50% quota seats for MD/MS/PG Diploma courses (all states except Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana).
- State quota seats for MD/MS/PG Diploma courses for all States/Union territories of India (including the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & Jammu & Kashmir).
- MD/MS/PG Diploma courses at all Private Medical Colleges, Institutions & Universities/Deemed Universities all across the country.
- MD/MS/PG Diploma courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.
- DNB Broad specialty courses (January 2018 Admission Session).

NEET PG 2018 Counselling Schedule
The counseling authorities for allotment of various types of seats to eligible and successful candidates are as follows:
- All India 50% quota Medical Educational Institutions of Central Govt. Universities established by an Act of Parliament Deemed Universities is the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
- State quota seats in All Medical Institutions in a State and seats in institutions established by State Govt., Universities established by Act of State/Union Territory Legislature, Municipal Bodies Trust, Society, Company or Minority Institutions is the State Government or authority designated by the State Government.
Following is the procedure for NEET PG Counseling:
- Registration – Candidates who have qualified in NEET PG should register online
- Selection of Choices – This step is where the candidate selects his preference of seats and locks choices.
- Seat Allotment – As per the merit list or rank card, and their preference, candidates will be allotted medical colleges. This will be published on the official website of the counselling authority.
