What is UPTET?
UPTET or Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test; is a state-level test for the recruitment of Primary and Upper Primary Level Teachers in various schools all over Uttar Pradesh. It is conducted by UPBEB (Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board) or Uttar Pradesh Basic Shiksha Parishad).
UPBEB was founded in the year 1972, with the aim to provide quality education through council schools in all the districts of the state. The body has now over 1,13,500 primary schools and 45,700 upper primary schools all over Uttar Pradesh.
Structure of UPTET exam
UPTET is an offline paper-pencil examination which is conducted once every year. All questions are objective in nature. The duration of the examination will be 2 hours and 30 minutes.
There are two exams for UPTET which are UPTET Paper-I and UPTET Paper-II.
Paper-I is for candidates who aspire to become a teacher for Class I to Class V. The question paper consists of 150 multiple choice questions, with four choices for each question. The question paper is divided into four sections:
- Child Development, Learning & Pedagogy
- 1st Language
- 2nd Language
- Mathematics
- Environmental Studies
Each section has 30 questions, and there isn’t any time limit for completing each section, but keep in mind all questions are to be completed within 150 minutes. Thus, there are 150 questions in total and each question correctly answered earns you 1 mark.
There isn’t negative marking for a wrongly answered question, the maximum mark is 150. All questions are compulsory and need to be answered. The language of the examination consists of both English and Hindi.

UPTET 2018 Eligibility Criteria
The Eligibility Criteria for a candidate to appear in UPTET Paper I is as follows:
Academic Qualification
- Candidate must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in the intermediate examination.
- Candidates who have completed their graduation or those who are studying in the 2nd year of BTC/ passed in an institute affiliated to NCTE.
- Candidates who have completed their graduation or those who are studying in final year of D.Ed (Specialization) in an institute recognized by RCI.
- Candidates who have completed their graduation or those who are studying in the 2nd year of BTC (Urdu)/ passed in an institute affiliated to NCTE.
- Candidates who have completed their graduation or those who are in final year/ passed Diploma in Teaching from Aligarh Muslim University.
- For Urdu Teaching: Candidates who have completed their graduation or those who are Moa’llim-e-Urdu degree holders from Aligarh Muslim University before August 11, 1997.
- Candidates who are currently studying in the final year B.EL.ED.
- Candidate should be a citizen of India.
- Candidates who belong to Nepal/ Bhutan /Tibet are also eligible to apply.
- There are no fixed number of attempts.

Application forms and submission procedure
The application form for UPTET 2018 will be available in the official website by the month of August. The application process is done completely online, by filling the application form with the required details.
Application fee can be paid online using Debit Cards, Credit Cards and other internet banking facility. For candidates paying offline, they have to make payment in e-challan at SBI Bank. The fees structure varies for candidates from a different category. The list is mentioned below.

As stated earlier, the mode of application is online where applicants have to register themselves in the official website of UPTET. The application portal is currently closed and will be made available by the month of August 2018.
Candidates have to fill the prescribed details in the application form and submit the required documents.
After registration and successful payment of fee, candidates have to upload a set of documents to the website. Following are the documents needed:
- The necessary documents that verify the candidate’s academic qualification, as well as proof of caste and/or physical disability (if required).
- A photo ID proof along with the ID number needs to be filled. The mentioned ID card has to be brought on the day of exam.
- A colored passport sized photo (max size 20KB) is to be uploaded too. Photograph should be in JPG/JPEG format only.
Candidates are advised to keep a print out of the complete application form, after submitting it on the website for future reference. There aren’t any official dates for submission of application form, but for UPTET 2017 it was on October 28th 2016.
Applicants can check their application status by logging in the website using the credentials provided upon successful submission of filled application form. Editing of the application form is also applicable and the dates allotted for making any necessary changes to the application is November 3rd to 7th 2016.
Let’s look at the application process step by step:
STEP-1: Online Registration
Candidates looking to apply for UPTET have to register themselves on the official website of UPTET. During registration, candidates have to fill in the requested details correctly, the district in which the candidate shall appear, and mention a photo ID proof and ID number.
STEP-2: Application Fee
After successful registration, candidates have to pay the application fee either online or offline. The fee is Rs. 400 for General and OB Category and Rs. 200 for Schedule Caste and Tribes.
Physically Challenged candidates are exempted from the application fees. Online Payment is done via Credit / Debit Cards and Internet Banking. Offline payment is done by paying the required amount at SBI banks for an e-challan.
STEP-3: Uploading of Documents
After paying the fee, candidates have to submit required documents on the website in the prescribed format. Documents include certificates of academic qualification, proof of caste or physical disability (if any) and journal number provided by the bank.
Candidates should also upload their passport-size photo, and an ID proof. All documents should be uploaded in the prescribed format.
STEP-4: Printing of Application
Submitting the documents generates a User ID and Password which the candidate can use for logging in the website. By logging in, candidates can view their submitted application. Candidates are requested to take a print out of the complete application for reference purposes.
Admit Card
Admit Cards are issued by the organizing authority (UPBEB) which will be available from the first week of December. All candidates who successfully fill UPTET Application Form will be eligible to download the hall ticket. It has to be downloaded from the official website of UPTET.
This can be done by following the steps mentioned below:
- Visit the official website of UPTET.
- Click on UPTET 2018 Admit Card link.
- Provide all the necessary details- UPTET Registration Number, and Date of Birth.
- Click on Submit.
- UPTET Admit Card would appear on the screen.
- Take its print out.
The admit card would contain the following details; language of paper, exam center, date & time slot of exam, roll number and photo of the candidate. All details are to be checked and if there are any mistakes, candidates should immediately contact the official authority.

Admission Procedure
The results for UPTET will be declared by the organizing authority UPBEB. Candidates have to secure 60% of the marks, (90 marks out of 150) for general category and 55% of marks (83 marks out of 150) for OBC, SC/ST, etc to qualify in UPTET.
Candidates who secured the minimum cut off mark will be declared qualified and will be issued a TET eligibility certificate. The eligibility certificate will be valid for 5 years. Provided below is the expected cut off mark for 2018:

Candidates qualified for UPTET will not be guaranteed a job in hand as there isn’t any further allotment process. However, these qualified candidates are eligible for appointment in State Government Schools.

Syllabus
There are two UPTET papers one for aspirants of classes I to V (Paper – I) and another for aspirants of class VI to VIII (Paper – II). The exam is for 90 minutes. Each correct answer is awarded one mark. There is no negative marking.

UPTET Result
The result of the examination is available on the official site.
Approximately 10 lakh candidates had registered for the UPTET exam last year out of which the board has rejected 32,000 candidates’ applications. Therefore, around 9 lakh candidates took up the test out of which 3 lakh candidates appeared for Paper – I and 6 lakh candidates appeared for Paper – II.

Score Validity
The qualifying UPTET score is valid for a period of 7 years from the date of declaration of results. A person can write the UPTET any number of times to clear the paper. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the examination.

UPTET 2018 Counselling Schedule
The UPTET counseling happens after the results are declared. Once the results are declared the candidates can visit the official website and fill the required details for counseling process. Then a merit list published based on which the candidates will be given allotments.
The candidates must report to the concerned venues with Educational B.Ed. Mark Sheets & other Mark Sheets, Demand Drafts of fees paid, E-Application Print Out, ID Proof, Passport Size Photograph, Affidavits and call letters for the Counseling.
