About

Ranchi University is a public university situated in Ranchi, Jharkhand was established in 1960. The university is recognised by the UGC and has been accredited with a grade of B++ by NAAC. It offers several undergraduate, post-graduate and doctorate programs. The University has 23 post-graduate departments, 15 constituent colleges, and 49 affiliated colleges The Institute of Management studies offers the MBA programme. It was established under the University in 2002.

Ranking

According to the QS Rankings 2020, the university ranked at 95th position in the ‘Overall University Performance’.

Application procedure

The application form of the university is available online on the university’s website . Go to the admissions tab on the university website: https://www.ranchiuniversity.ac.in/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32&Itemid=449# . Select the UG/PG course of your choice. Download and fill up the application form with complete information and signature. The hardcopy of application form needs to be sent to the University address. For the registration fee, a demand draft of the required amount needs to be made and sent along with the application form and other necessary documents. Application fee for MBA courses amounts to INR 500.

Specialisations

The university offers MBA with the following specialisations with a course duration of two years divided into four semesters.

• MBA in finance
• MBA in Marketing
• MBA in Human Resources
• MBA in Information Technology
• MBA in International Business

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for the MBA courses at Ranchi University, candidates need to have a bachelor’s degree in any stream with at least an aggregate of 50%. A relaxation of 5% is offered to students belonging to the SC/ST categories in the state of Jharkhand. Valid documents need to be provided for the same.

Final year students can also apply but they need to provide the evidence of qualification before the commencement of the new session.

Selection Criteria

Selection of the candidates for the MBA courses at the university is usually based on their CAT/ MAT/ CMAT or ATMA score alongwith past academic record. Work Experience relevant to the course is also taken under consideration. The entire selection process is completed after a round of group discussion and personal interview. Certain advantages are provided to girl candidates and the physically challenged while releasing the final merit list of selected candidates.

The Final merit list is prepared according to the Admission Index (A.I.). The scoring for the same is calculated as follows:

A.I. = a + b + c + d +e + f + g + h + i, where,

a = Score in G. D. (out of 20)

b = Score in Personal Interview (out of 20)

c = Score against aggregate Marks in class X (≥ 60 => 5; ≥ 45 => 3; ≥ 30 => 1; < 30 => 0)

d = Score against aggregate Marks in class XII (≥ 60 => 5; ≥ 45 => 3; ≥ 30 => 1; < 30 => 0)

e = Score against aggregate Marks in Graduation (≥ 60 => 15; ≥ 45 => 10; ≥ 30 => 5; < 30 => 0;

f = 0.3 * Percentile in CAT / XAT / MAT / CMAT / ATMA

g = 5 in case Physically Challenged, else 0

h = 5 in case a Girl candidate, else 0

It is mandatory for the students applying for the MBA course to be present during all stages of admission. Failing to do the same might lead to cancellation of the admission procedure for the candidate.

It is important to note that the CAT / XAT / MAT / CMAT / ATMA score should not be older than one year as on 1st May of the admission year.

Fee structure

The entire fee for two-year MBA course with any chosen specialisation at Ranchi University costs around INR 5500 for the general category. However, the students from SC/ST category are given some concessions on their total fee. The cost of a two-year MBA programme for the SC/ST students is around INR 2550.

In a recent notification by the Ranchi University, details are laid down on how the state government would reimburse certain fees of students from SC/ST categories and Girl students. Scholarships

Ranchi University offers scholarships to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds based on their academic performances. Certain conditions to be eligible for the scholarships are set out by the college committees.

Every academic session, meritorious BPL students are offered Rs 500 scholarships in each department post-graduation. Aside from that, five selected students from each component institution who are below the poverty line are given total freeship in each self-financing course.

Reservations

The reservations and relaxations in admissions offered by the Government of Jharkhand are applicable to the reserved categories of the state of Jharkhand only. The students from the reserved categories of other states are treated as general category students.

Placements

A total of 98 students in the PG (2-year) programme were placed during placement in 2021, according to the NIRF report 2022. Additionally, INR 1.02 LPA was the average package provided to PG (2-year) students.
