Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee formerly known as Thomson College of Civil Engineering is Asia’s first engineering college. BTech here is a four years programme spread across 8 semesters.

IITR provides specializations in BTech in Biotechnology, Biosciences Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production & Industrial Engineering, Physics, Civil Engineering Computer Science & Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering.

Admissions are done at IITR for BTech through JEE Mains/JEE Advanced scores which are later followed by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) Counselling. In 2022, NIRF ranked IITR 6th among the best Engineering colleges in India, and in 2021 ARIIA ranked IITR 5th best institute. IITR is also accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and is affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Application Procedure

The application procedure for the IIT Roorkee for BTech is as follows:

Step 1: Candidates need to sit for the Joint Entrance Examination Mains (JEE Mains) which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and secure a good score.

Step 2: After clearing the JEE Mains with 75% marks, candidates need to sit for the JEE Advanced examination and qualify for it with good marks.

Step 3: During the choosing of colleges, the candidates need to select the IIT Roorkee, option and based on their seats, candidate’s application will be processed. This is the only process through which the candidates can apply to IITR.

Step 4: Next, they will need to submit all the required documents as listed on the website and pay the application fee.

The candidates can either pay online or offline.

For Online: Candidates can pay the fee through the following online portal: https://octopod.co.in/student/admission/9aa28d121b70f05abd864abdf7327dcb. After accessing the link, enter the enrolment number, email id, and then press the ‘Validate Button’. Next proceed to payment.

For Offline: Candidates can pay through Bank Demand Draft and send it to the college, and it should be made on the favour of ‘Registrar, IIT Roorkee’.

Step 5: After successful completion of all the details candidates will have to report to the respective colleges and on submission of documents and payment of fees, the candidate will be admitted to IIT Roorkee.

The last date to register online for admission at IIT Roorkee is 26^th October 2022.

Admission Procedure/Selection Process

The admission procedure or selection process for BTech at IIT Roorkee is as follows:

Step 1: Go to the official admission portal of IIT Roorkee. See: https://pgadm.iitr.ac.in/#/account/login?returnUrl=%2Fhome

Step 2: Click on the “Register New Account” option.

Step 3: Fill out all the details as asked in the page like the name, phone number, and email id.

Step 4: After creating your account, click on the ‘Undergraduate’ tab.

Step 5: A new tab for the ‘Registration form’ will open, fill out all the required details there.

Step 6: Upload all the required documents as asked. Such include:

• Scanned signature of the candidate
• Two coloured photographs of the candidate
• Offer letter of JEE Advanced and the JEE seat allotment letter.
• Transfer or migration certificate
• Undertaking of the parents for continuing the study at IITR
• Medical examination report
• Anti-ragging affidavit, one signed by the student and one signed by the guardian
• Category certificate (if applicable)
• Proof of receipt for the payment made by the candidate at the time of seat allotment.

Step 7: After previewing and checking all the details submit the form. Soon a confirmation email will be sent to the candidate’s provided email id.

Step 8: After registering online, the candidates will need to visit the college campus with the original documents for the verification.

Candidates need to report to the Convocation Hall of IIT Roorkee on October 27^th 2022, for this verification purpose.

Fee Structure

The Fee structure at IIT Roorkee for studying BTech is Rs. 1,49,750 each semester.

Eligibility Criteria

The Candidates need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria for taking admission at IIT Roorkee in BTech:

• Candidates must pass their 10+2 examination from Science Stream.
• Candidates must secure a mark of at least 75% (65% marks for ST/SC/OBC) in their final examination to be eligible to apply.
• Candidate must have a valid scorecard of JEE Mains and JEE Advanced to be eligible to pursue BTech from IIT Roorkee.

Scholarships

IIT Roorkee provides a few scholarship opportunities to its students. Such scholarships are as follows:

• James Thomson Scholarship: Candidates with All India Rank less than 300 in JEE Advanced, especially in the Computer Science Department will receive an amount of Rs. 25,000 every month. The attached condition here is that they maintain their CGPA above 8.0 at the end of each academic year.
• Aditya Birla Scholarship: This scholarship is given to the top 20 students with the highest JEE Advanced score in the institute. Aditya Birla Scholars will receive an amount of Rs. 1,00,000 every year. The selection process for this scholarship is quite hectic as it involves write-ups, interviews, a felicitation ceremony, and a free flight to Mumbai.
• Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: Candidates whose family income is less than 5 LPA and has merit of more than 7.5 CGPA can avail of this scholarship. Only 25% of students from each branch can apply for this scholarship. Candidates who are eligible will have their entire fee waivered. First-year students are judged on the basis of their JEE scores.
