BIL is a private college. It is affiliated with Patliputra University. The Bar Council of India recognizes the institute. Bihar Government has approved it.
BIL offers two main courses- a 3-year post-graduate LL.B and a 5-year integrated BALLB Both programs are approved by Bar Council of India. The institute has admitted students for over 30 years. The annual intake is 180 students.
BIL conducts its own entrance exam the Bihar Institute of Law Aptitude Test (BILAT). Candidates need at least 40% marks to qualify for admission. The ranking of BIL is #70 for Law by Indiatoday in 2023.
