Law has always played a vital role in structuring the society all over the world. To ensure that law achieves the objectives for which it has been held in such a high esteem, the highest standard of legal education has to be maintained. Therefore, to provide quality legal education to the students of the State, who otherwise would have to go outside the State for 5-Year Law Degree Course after 10+2 examination, the K.C. Educational Society established a Law College at Jammu, in the year 2003. It started imparting instruction in legal education to 1st Semester students of 5-Year Degree of Bachelor of Laws course from 1st September, 2003, and the 3-year Degree of Bachelor of Laws (Professional) course during the session 2005-06.

Objectives

The objectives of the K.C. Law College, inter alia, are:

  • To impart quality legal education in order to imbue and promote legal, cultural and ethical values among students and to inculcate in them a sense of responsibility towards the objectives enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution of India.
  • To prepare students for becoming humane and competent professionals in order to serve the society in the field of legal services, law-reforms, policy-planning and legislation etc.
  • To prepare students so that they may promote legal awareness in the society to make it responsive towards human rights and human values in order to achieve the social cohesion of highest degree in a pluralistic society.

K.C. Law College is affiliated to the University of Jammu and approved by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi.

Eligibility For Admission

  • For admission to 5-Year Degree of Bachelor of Laws, firstly a candidate must have passed 10+2 examination in any discipline from J&K State Board of School Education or an examination of any other Board/University recognized as equivalent thereto with atleast 45% of aggregate marks (40% marks in the case of Scheduled Caste/Schedule Tribe candidates).
  • Secondly, the candidate should be less than 20 years of age incase of General category (open seats) and 22 years of age incase of Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / other Backward areas.
  • For admission to LL.B. 3-Year Professional Degree Course, firstly a candidate to be eligible shall have passed Bachelor’s Degree examination in any discipline/stream of the University of Jammu or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with atleast 45% of the aggregate marks (40% for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates).
  • Secondly, the candidate should be less than 30 years of age incase of General category (open seats) and 35 years of age incase of Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / other Backward areas.

NOTE: Admission to LL.B 3-Year Professional Degree Course and 5 year Degree of Bachelor of Law has been centralized by the University of Jammu through a centralized Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET) from the Academic session 2011-2012. Only such candidates who qualify the entrance test conducted by the University of Jammu and are recommended for admission shall be admitted in this course.

Eligibility

Eligibility for Law courses (LLB, integrated LLB) at K. C. Law College, Jammu -

1) 3 year Law Degree Course - A candidate who has graduated in any discipline from a recognized University can appear for L.L.B. course

2) Integrated Degree Program - Candidate must have passed 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam or an exam cosidered to be equivalnt to 10+2 Higher Secondary Exam can enrol for integrated degree program (LLB and a first degree in any other subject).

Candidates who have obtained 10+2 Higher secondary exam certificate or a graduate degree after taking up other courses through distance mode are also considered eligible for integrated degree course. But those candidates who have obtained 10+2 Higher secondary exam certificate or a graduate degree through distance mode or from open universities without any basic qualification are not eligible for admission into law courses.

Minimum marks for admission into law courses -

1) 40% for SC/ST candidates

2) 45% for other candidates

Admission Procedure

Admission will be based on a CLAT (Combined Law Aptitude Test).
