About Distance Education Program, University of Delhi
School of Open Learning (SOL) formally known as The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education was established in 1962, and one of the first institutes in India which offer distance education to people who want to continue their education along with jobs.
The 56- year old institute started with an enrolment of a modest 900 students in 1962, and saw an enrolment of more than 2 lakh students in the session 2006-07. It has two centres in Delhi; North Campus and South Campus.
DU School of Open Learning does not offer Distance MBA program.
Why School of Open Learning?
- It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the arts/ humanities and commerce streams.
- The admissions to the course are held by the norms laid out by the University of Delhi.
- The examinations conducted and degrees awarded are also governed by the University of Delhi guidelines.
- It follows almost the same syllabus as for regular courses.
Facilities provided
Personal Contact Programmes (PCP)- DU also organises Personal Contact Programmes or PCPs for its distance learning students. The PCPs include regular classroom lectures and discussions at different places for a particular period (around one month in a year). The university also invites guest lecturers for the PCPs.
Library- The students enrolled in the distance education programmes of the university can also take advantage of a well-stocked library available at campus.
Faculty- It also has experienced faculty that is available to clear doubts and to improve understanding of concepts.
Admission and Application Procedure
Application Procedure
The SOL applications are accepted only in the online mode. The fee payment has to be completed through the online mode only.

The prospective candidates have to fill an online form to start the admission process. The scanned copies of the following documents have to be uploaded with the form for the admission. Please note that the documents might differ according to the course of the candidate.
Document required for SOL Application Procedure
- Recent passport sized photograph
- Signature
- Self- attested copy of class X marks- sheet
- Self- attested copy of class XII marks- sheet
- Migration Certificate
- Self- attested copy of Reverse Category Certificate (for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD etc. candidates)
- Self-attested copy of Original Income Certificate, if applying for fee concession/ financial assistance.
NOTE: – The digital size of the file of the photographs must be more than 4 kb and less than 24 kb. The signature must be uploaded in jpg format. The digital size of the signature file must be more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb. The digital size of the file other than Photograph and Signature (like 10th Mark sheet, 12th Mark sheet, 12th Certificate, etc.) must be less than 2 mb and in the .pdf format.
Admission Procedure
The admission to the undergraduate courses offered by SOL is primarily done on the basis of merit, i.e., score obtained in senior secondary examinations conducted by a recognised board.
For certain postgraduate courses, the candidates may have to appear for an entrance examination. The admission granted on the above basis is only provisional admission, that is, the admission might be cancelled if the authenticity of the documents is doubtful.
Once the documents are verified, the proper admission is granted and identity cards and study material can be availed from the SOL website. The study material and all the official correspondence will be done via email or through post.
Offline Admission Facility
The SOL offline admission facility is available only at the North Campus centre of the School of Open Learning. This facility can only be availed by the following persons-
- Persons with disability (PWD),
- Below Poverty Line (BPL),
- Foreign Students’ Registry (FSR)
- NHE categories.
The candidates wishing to seek admission through this mode will be required to submit photocopies of the abovementioned documents, whichever applicable, to the office at the North Campus SOL.
Fee Structure for School of Open Learning Courses
The fee structure for all SOL courses for one year has to be paid at the time of the admission. It can be paid through Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking and Wallet.

The School of Open Learning also offers some short term, skill- enhancing courses. These courses hone the professional and technical knowledge of the students, hence assisting them in their careers.

After completion of these courses, the students are awarded certificates from the University of
