What is PUCET?

Panjab University Common Entrance Test (PU CET) is a University level entrance exam conducted every year by the Panjab University for admission into the university’s various undergraduate medical programs under PU CET UG and postgraduate programs under PU CET PG.

The undergraduate degree includes courses such as Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS), B. Pharmacy and B.Sc. (Hons.) while the postgraduate degree consists of programs under law, journalism, public health, disaster management, technology, engineering, arts and computer science. Candidates seeking admission in the affiliated colleges of Panjab University for admission have to apply through this exam.

Structure of PUCET exam

The exam is and will be conducted only through offline (pen and paper) mode. The entrance test for undergraduate courses is scheduled on 29th April 2018 while for postgraduate courses the dates are 2nd& 3rd June 2018.

Duration: The test duration is 70 minutes per paper and the total duration depends on the number of papers to be given according to the course in which the candidate has applied.

Questions: There are different papers for the courses namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Biotechnology and Computer Science. The candidates will have the papers depending on his/her choice of course. The number of papers may also vary. Each of these papers have 60 questions. All the questions are of multiple choice type (MCQ). The duration of each paper is limited to 70 minutes.

The total number of questions is the sum total of 60 questions each for the number of papers for a course. All the questions are of multiple choice type (MCQ). Each correct answer is of 2 marks. There is negative marking and 25% marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Medium: The exam is conducted only in English medium.

The sample papers of the test will help the candidates get familiar, prepare and also give an idea of the type of questions.

PUCET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

For Admission into Undergraduate courses

  • The candidate must have passed or appeared in the 10+2 or equivalent examination conducted by any recognized board or university with minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
  • The candidate has to be a citizen of India.
  • Foreign citizens can apply under the NRI quota.
  • Candidate must be of 17 years of age as on 31stDecember to be eligible to apply for PG CET- UG.

For admission into the Postgraduate courses

  • Candidate must have passed the Bachelor or equivalent program with minimum 50%-55% marks from a recognized university.
  • Candidates in their final year are also eligible to apply provided they pass their qualifying exams at the time of admission.

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates are according to Panjab University, Chandigarh guidelines.

For Physically handicapped candidates

  • 1stpreference: Candidates suffering from locomotor disabilities of lower limbs between 50%-70%.
  • 2ndpreference: Candidates suffering from locomotor disabilities of lower limbs between 40%-50%.

Application forms and submission procedure

The applications form for PU CET will tentatively be available from the third week of March 2018 and the last date for submission is the fourth week of April 2018.

A student can apply only through online mode.

The application fee is Rs 1760 for General category candidates and Rs 880 for SC/ST and blind candidates.

For the payment of application fee, the candidate has to:

  • Pay the Application fee through SBI Challan mode.
  • Take a print out of the bank slip and send the application fee using website generated bank slip at any SBI branch.

While applying online, the candidates need to have the following documents ready for reference and/or submission:

  • Mark sheet of Class 10th, 12thand Bachelor’s degree as may be required
  • Scanned latest photograph
  • Scanned latest signature
  • Scanned thumb impression
  • Category certificate if belonging to SC/ST category

After successful submission of the form, the candidate will receive an E-mail and SMS regarding successful submission of the form. This can be used for future reference. Also, the candidate needs to get a print out of the online application form after submitting it successfully.

Thus the complete procedure to fill the Application Form is mentioned below:

Step-1: Registration

  • Go to the official website.
  • To get yourself registered, click on the tab for Registration.
  • Enter the details as asked on the online application portal regarding Name, Date of Birth, Mobile number and E-mail ID.
  • The Login ID and password will be sent either on the mobile number or email ID. Keep them safely for future use.

Step-2: Login and filling up of details-

  • Login using the Login ID and password.
  • Fill the application form.
  • The various section of details have to be filled:

Personal Details: Name, Father’s name, Date of Birth, Nationality, Gender, Category, Address.

Academic Details: Details of Class 10th and 12th examination such as subjects, total marks obtained, aggregate marks in percentage, name of the board and year of pass out.

Course and exam center: The candidate has to select the preferred test center for giving the exam.

Step-3: Uploading of Images and Confirmation

The scanned image of passport size photograph, signature, and thumb impression in JPG/ JPEG format has to be uploaded. Then the candidate has to verify all the details. After this, the form is submitted and confirmed.

Step-4: Payment of Fees

After filling the application form, the fee is paid through SBI Challan mode. The candidate has to take a print out of the bank slip and send the application fee as specified for different categories using website generated bank slip at any SBI branch. The application fee is non- refundable. After payment of the fees, the candidates would not be able to change any details entered earlier.

Step-5: Print out of Application Form

After successfully filling the complete application form, the candidate must take a print out of the form for future reference. They will also receive an E-mail and SMS regarding successful submission of the form.

Admit Card

The admit cards will be released at least a week before the entrance exam date.

How to download Admit Card

In order to access the Admit Card, the candidate needs to follow the following steps:

  • Go to the official website. Click on Home 
  • There will be an admit card link. Click on that and select UG/PG admit card 2018 as per your choice. The PG and UG aspirants will have different admit cards.
  • You will be redirected to a log in page.
  • Enter your log in details such as Log in ID and password and then click on Sign in.
  • On successful sign in, PU CET admit card will be displayed on the computer screen.
  • Then download and save the admit card. Take a print out of the same for future reference.

No offline or hard copies of the admit card will be sent to any candidate. No candidate will be allowed to sit for the exam without the admit card.

The Admit Card contains the following details:

  • Name of the Candidate
  • Date of Birth
  • Enrollment number
  • Gender
  • Category
  • Candidate’s Photograph and Signature
  • Examination center details
  • Venue Address
  • Examination Date and Time
  • Exam Instructions

The candidate must verify his/her admit card for all the details. In case of any discrepancy, they are required to immediately contact the following:

A candidate must carry his/her admit card along with a photo identity proof (Aadhaar Card/ Voter ID Card/ Passport/ PAN Card/ Driving License) otherwise he/she will not be allowed to take the exam.

Admission Procedure

The results will be declared in the month of June. It will be announced on the official website.

  • Visit the official website.
  • Go to the admission link from the sidebar and visit the UG or PG page based on the exam applied by the candidate.
  • Go to the check result log in.
  • Enter the registration number given to you at the time of application.
  • The result will appear on the screen.

The candidates will not get an individual scorecard. The merit list will consist of the list of qualified and non-qualified candidates under the possible combination of subjects. Also, no re-checking of the answer sheet will be done.

The merit list will be based on the qualifying score and entrance test results. The merit list will determine the college and course allotted to the candidate. The higher the marks, the higher are the chances for a candidate to get the preferred course.

Notification

The prospectus containing all important information regarding PU CET UG and PG is released by the university in its official website.

The notification regarding release of application forms is expected to be announced in March this year. It is recommended that the students visit the official website and read the prospectus completely before filling in the application form.

PUCET 2018 Counselling Schedule

The counselling schedule for PU CET PG will usually be notified in the online and physical notice board of the departments offering admissions at the Panjab university.

The candidates must register through the official website for counselling by paying the required counselling fee. Then, they can choose colleges of their preference and seats will be allotted on the basis of merit.
