What is TANCET?
The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) is conducted every year by the Anna University in association with the Tamil Nadu government. This test is used for admission in MBA, MCA and M.Tech /M.E/M.Arch/ M.Planning degree programs. Using the score from this examination, one can acquire a seat for the above courses in Anna University and other Tamil Nadu Colleges.
Structure of TANCET Examination
There are three different types of exams conducted based on the degree/program one would like to be admitted into. The exam is paper-based regardless of the stream and it is only conducted only once a year. Each division has a varied examination structure and pattern. One must attempt the exam with a black ballpoint pen.
TANCET MBA EXAM
In order to get into top MBA colleges in Tamil Nadu, one must appear for this test. The exam has multiple sections.

For this paper, normalization is done based on the formula:
Normalised marks = 40 + (10/s) (r – m)
Where,
r=raw marks, s=standard deviation, and m=mean
This gives the relative ranking of the candidates in any discipline.
TANCET Eligibility Criteria
Below is the TANCET 2018 Eligibility criterion for different courses:

(Computer Science / Information Technology) with mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level and should have obtained at least 50% (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination. The education must be a 10+2+3 years Pattern. |

NOTE
- Candidates that were admitted to a degree via Lateral Entry are not eligible unless they have B.Tech/B.E or MCA degree.
- Candidates with B.Tech/B.E long distance degrees are not eligible.
- Candidates that have obtained a degree without 10th, 12th and at least a 3-year degree education are not eligible.
- Other state students may appear for the exam but eligibility conditions will be stipulated by authorities.
TANCET Application Forms and Submission Procedure
The application process is in online mode. The applications will open in late January and will be open until the end of February. The application procedure will consist of filling up various details and uploading images with prescribed dimensions. Once the process is complete, an acknowledgment will be generated for further reference.
In 2017 the registration process began on the 29th of January and ended on the 28th of February.
The registration fee is Rs.500 (Rs.250 for SC /SCA /ST candidates). If a candidate chooses to appear for more than one stream, they must pay the fee for each examination. The entire payment procedure is only online and cannot be done by Demand Draft or any other offline mode.
The steps of the registration process are:
- Start by opening
- Create a username and password
- Log in using the above credentials and begin to fill in the basic details asked in the form.
- Upload all photographs and certificates necessary.
TANCET 2018 Admit Card
The Registration Number assigned in the Hall Ticket must be entered at the given slot in the admission application form to be filed with the respective admitting authority later. All the candidates shall download the hall tickets from the Anna University website.
The Admit card can be downloaded by pressing the Download TANCET 2017 Admit Card link. One must enter their username and password after which a link will be generated to download the admit card.
In case the candidate forgets the password, a new password can be generated by the ‘forgot password’ link where you must enter the date of birth. A print out of this must be taken to appear in the examination. Details such as venue, date and time of the examination, photo, registration number and reporting time will be available on the admit card.
TANCET 2018 Admission Procedure
After appearing for the TANCET, the results will be declared by the second week of April. A minimum cut off mark will also be announced for the admission procedure. The mark sheet can be downloaded from the website within 10 days after the publication of results. The mark sheet must be produced during the counseling procedure along with the hall ticket.
One can get admission into various colleges in Tamil Nadu via the TANCET. The colleges include:
- University Departments of Anna University, Chennai – 25, Anna University Regional Campuses and University College of Engineering.
- The Government affiliated colleges like Government Aided Engineering Colleges, Arts and Science Colleges and for the seats surrendered by the Self-Financing Engineering Colleges, Arts and Science Colleges under the purview of Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai and Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai–6 including stand-alone Institutions.
TANCET Notification
The entrance exam is managed by Anna University, Chennai on the behalf of Government of Tamil Nadu, the notification is expected to be released in the first week of May 2018. The notification once released can be downloaded from the official website.
