Description

Sikkim University is based in Gangtok. It is a central university established in 2007. A permanent campus is under development at Yangang in South Sikkim.

Sikkim University offers undergraduate postgraduate and PhD programs. It has six schools, including Human Science, Language and Literature, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Professional Studies and Social Sciences. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1-20. The university has 17 affiliated colleges with over 9500 undergraduate students.

Facilities include boys' and girls' hostels, a library, sports, a gym, a medical clinic, transport, wifi and IT infrastructure.

Admissions for undergraduate and postgraduate programs occur based on the merit score of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an 'A' grade.

In the 2023 NIRF rankings the university was ranked 151 among the top 2000 universities. 

Placements - Placement drive in 2023 reported a median package of INR 5.40 LPA for undergraduate students and INR 6 LPA for postgraduate students.
