The Goa University was established by Goa University Act of 1984 and commenced operations from 1 June 1985. With the motto ”Knowledge is Divine”, the university aims at providing top quality higher education in Goa. It has a 175 hectare campus located in Taleigão, Goa. Goa University holds affiliation from UGC, NAAC, and AIU. It also provides affiliation to 53 colleges put of which 24 colleges provide professional courses.
The university offers courses in undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs. The library is stocked with more than 158,000 books and it subscribes to 350 periodicals.
The Goa University has a world class indoor stadium; Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium was constructed for the 2014 Lusophony Games for of volleyball and basketball events. It cost 82 crore and was built within 11 months which is a record to construct an indoor stadium of International Standards in such short span. It is Asia’s first stadium which has the longest single-sheet roof of 131 meters.
The distinguishing feature of the university is that it offers courses in western languages specifically Portuguese and French.
The Goa University has been ranked 64th overall by the NIRF in 2017. Youthesia is an annual fest organized by the Goa University which attracts 1000s of students from all across the state to participate in various sports/cultural/technical/management events.
Application and Admission Procedure
Application forms for the courses at the Goa University are available at the official website and also at the site of the affiliated colleges. Application form can also be obtained from the HDFC bank branches by paying the application fee.
If submitted through online portal, the fee amount can be paid through credit / debit card. Application fee for UG courses is Rs.1500, for PG it is Rs.400/- and for MBA the fee amount is Rs.1000/-.
The completed form should be submitted along with attested documents of 10+2 mark sheet, graduation certificates, identity proof, birth certificate and recent passport size photograph.
Following the successful submission of the application form, students would have to attend the Goa Common Entrance Test, which is compulsory for all the UG and PG courses.
The University requires CMAT score as an eligibility criterion for selecting students for the MBA program.
Hostel and Facilities
Goa University is spread over 427.49 acres of land on Taleigao Plateau overlooking Zuari estuary. It provides state to art facilities with on-campus banks, post office, sports area and guest house. Internet connectivity is available on campus 24×7. The university has in place health center with modern infrastructure and adequate medical staff within 3 km of range.
Goa University has hostels for boys as well as girls. There are two hostels for each boys and girls. Hostel rooms are provided for on-campus students as well as for affiliated college students. However, priority is given to students enrolled in on-campus courses and affiliated college students can avail rooms owing to the availability. The hostel provides WIFI connectivity, TV room, and sports facility (only for women hostel).
The indoor as well outdoor sports facility is provided. The library is well equipped open 24 hours a day along with digital resource center.
