Goa College Of Engineering, Ponda (GEC) North Goa

The Goa College of Engineering (GEC) is a public engineering college located in Farmagudi, Ponda. It was established in 1967 and is the oldest engineering college in the state. College covers an area of 268 acres.

The college offers a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in seven streams a Master of Engineering (M.E.) in nine streams and five streams for PhD The flagship program is the BE in Civil Engineering. Major departments include Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Mining Engineering.

GEC has over 2,200 students and a faculty of 95 members. It is affiliated with Goa University and operates as a government institute.

Student facilities include a library, hostel, gymkhana, workshop, canteen and medical services. It has sports facilities including badminton, basketball, cricket, swimming and table tennis.

The Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) is used for admission to BE courses while the GATE exam is for ME courses. The college falls under the approvals of AICTE and NBA and has accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation.

In rankings a 2006 study by Dataquest India placed GEC at 75th position in country.

Placements - College has good placement in computer science and information technology branches. Approximately 35-40% of overall students secure placements with salary packages varying between 4 LPA and 12 LPA. Major recruiters include Accenture and TCS.
