What is MHCET LAW?

MH CET LAW also known as Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for Law is a law entrance exam to gain admission into the undergraduate law programs in Maharashtra.

Students can get admissions into the 3-year L.L.B program as well as the integrated 5-year L.L.B programs offered by various law colleges in Maharashtra.

Structure of MHCET LAW exam

The exam is conducted in the online mode only. It is conducted on two different dates during a year, one for admission into the 3 year LLB program and the other for admission into the 5 year integrated LLB program. The test is conducted for a total duration of 2 hours.

MHCET LAW 2018 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criterion differs each year for the MH CET LAW exam. DHE Maharashtra, the conducting body announces this every year in their official website. The criterion given below complies with the 2018 examination.

Eligibility for 3 year LLB program:

  • Minimum qualification: The candidates should have completed their undergraduate degree (10+2+3) from a UGC recognised college or university with a minimum of 45% marks.
  • Age criteria: Candidates must be below 30 years of age as on the date of admission.
  • Relaxation for reserved category candidates: Reserved category candidates should have completed their undergraduate degree with a minimum of 40% marks and must be below 35 years of age as on the date of admission.
  • Other Criteria: Candidates appearing for their final year examinations can also take up the exam but admission will be confirmed based on minimum qualifying marks.

Eligibility for integrated 5 year LLB program:

  • Minimum qualification: The candidates should have completed senior secondary school education (10+2) from a recognised educational institution with a minimum of 45% marks.
  • Age criteria: Candidates must be below 20 years of age as on the date of admission
  • Relaxation for reserved category candidates: Reserved category candidates should have completed senior secondary school education with a minimum of 40% marks and must be below 22 years of age as on the date of admission.

Other criteria: Candidates appearing for their 12th examination can also take up the exam but admission will be confirmed only on securing the minimum qualifying marks.

Application forms and submission procedure

The online registration forms will be available in the month of March 2018, as stated in the official notification by the DHE Maharashtra.

Applications have to be submitted only by online method and no offline option is available to the candidate.

The summary of the application form filling is given below:

  1. Open website and create your id.
  2. Fill the required details and upload photos etc.
  3. Pay the fees specified using online payment modes.
  4. Download the application form (filled).

Application procedure in steps:

Step-1: Registration

The candidates must register with the official website by clicking on the ‘new registration tab’. They must fill in their personal details such as name, active email id, active mobile number and other contact information.

Once the required details are given, the candidates will get a provisional registration number which they must make note of for future references. They will also get their application number and password in the registered email id and mobile number.

Step-2: Filling in the application form

The candidates must use the given application number and password for logging into the official website further to fill the application form for the exam.

The candidates must fill in the required details in the form and then click on ‘validate your details’ after which the candidates can check their details, save it and continue to the next step.

Step-3: Uploading relevant documents

The candidates must upload scanned copies of their photograph and signature in the portal and then proceed to payment.

Step-4: Payment of application fee

The candidates must pay the required amount for the application through any one of the online payment methods. Then, an e-receipt will be generated which the candidates will print as proof of payment and preview their details for one last time and click on ‘Final submit’.

The fee structure for the test is as follows:

If you belong from the reserved category, then you are eligible to get a discount for the same and the fees for the reserved category is Rs 400

The fees mentioned above is accepted only through online mode which includes:

Admit Card

The admit cards will be issued by DHE Maharashtra in the month of May.

Below mentioned is the step by step process of downloading the MH-LAW CET admit card:

  • Visit the official site and click on ‘Admit Card’ link.
  • Then, enter the registration number and password/date of birth
  • Further, click on the ‘Download’ button and take a print of the admit card.

Details on the admit card: The candidates must make sure the following details are correct on their admit cards:

  1. Candidate’s name
  2. Date of birth
  3. Program applied for
  4. Photograph
  5. Signature
  6. Exam centre address
  7. Exam centre code
  8. Exam date
  9. Reporting time

Things to carry on exam day:

The candidates must definitely carry a copy of their admit card and a valid photo id such as pan card, driver’s license bank passbook etc on the day of the exam otherwise they will not be permitted to enter the exam hall.

Admission Procedure

Centralised Admission Process (CAP):

  1. After declaration of results, DHE Maharashtra selects students through counselling for admission into the different law programs offered by the state. The students must register for CAP through dhe.mhpravesh.in.
  2. The students must visit this site, click on new registration and provide the required details.
  3. Then the students must enter their registration number and choose a password following which they can select colleges of their preference from the list of colleges that are participating.
  4. Initially, a provisional allotment list will be published.
  5. Thereafter, a final merit list will be published and an offer of admission will be issued to the selected candidates.
  6. The candidates must visit the allotted college with the admission letter for document verification and then must pay the admission fee to confirm their admission.

Notification

A notification informing the dates of MHCET Law 2018 was published on the official website of MHCET on January 5th 2018. The notification states that the exam will be held on 17th of June 2018.

Syllabus

MHCET Law 2018 is of two types. The first is for the 5-year integrated LLB course and the second for the 3-year LLB course.

Syllabus for 5-year integrated LLB course

The entrance examination for this program is conducted online and consists of one paper. The paper is divided into five sections, which are listed as follows:

  • Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning
  • General Knowledge with Current Affairs
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning
  • English
  • Mathematical Aptitude

Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning:

This section tests the skill and knowledge of candidates in the field of Law, Legal reasoning and problem solving. Questions will be framed with reference to legal prepositions and a set of facts to which said prepositions have to be applied. Candidates will have to assume the truth of prepositions and justify them with well supported conclusions.

General Knowledge with Current Affairs:

General Knowledge includes topics like History, Geography, General Science, Economics, Civics, and Current Affairs.

Logical and Analytical Reasoning:

Candidates will be tested on their ability to identify patterns, logical links, and rectify illogical arguments. It includes reasoning deductively from the set of statements and rules or principles that describes the relationship among persons, things or events.

English:

Vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, analogies etc.), proficiency(idioms and phrases, one-word substitutions, sentence improvement & rearrangement, fill in the blanks etc), English usage errors (common errors, spotting errors, inappropriate usage of words, spelling mistakes, etc), English comprehension.

Mathematical Aptitude:

This section consists of queries that challenge the candidate’s numerical ability. The questions will be of 10th Standard level. Topics like profit and loss, speed and distance, time and work, Algebra, Average, Venn Diagram etc. will be included.

Syllabus for the 3-year LLB course

The syllabus for the 3-year LLB course consists of one paper and is divided into four sections:

  • Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning.
  • General Knowledge with Current Affairs.
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning.
  • English

The detailed syllabus for this course is the same as that for the one for the 5-year integrated course (excluding Mathematical Aptitude). 

MHCET LAW 2018 Important Dates

As of now, there isn’t an official schedule for MHCET 2018. The dates for the examination, however, are as mentioned below:

  • 22nd April 2018 for 5-year LLB program.
  • 17th June 2018 for 3-year LLB program.

Cut-Off

The cut-off mark is the minimum score required by a candidate in order to be considered for counseling. These marks determine the candidate’s eligibility for admissions into various law institutions.

During the year 2017, 14,559 candidates appeared for MHCET – Law 2017, out of which 295 candidates crossed 112 marks and 1099 candidates secured more than 100 marks.

The cut off marks will be decided by DHE Maharashtra after considering various factors. Following are the maximum marks a candidate can score:

Score Validity

The validity of the MHCET – Law score-card is 1 year from the announcement of the results. This means that candidates have a maximum duration of a year to seek admissions into colleges before losing the validity of the score card.

Reservation/Seat Distribution

Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), Maharashtra, will announce the participating institutes for MHCET Law 2018. These law institutions will accept the scores of MHCET Law 2018 for granting a seat into various undergraduate law programs (including the three-year and five-year integrated LLB programs).

According to this list, there are as many as 218 colleges affiliated to 11 universities that offer a total of 15040 LLB seats. Moreover, there are another 10060 seats offered by 153 colleges affiliated to the 11 universities in the five-year integrated law programs.

MHCET LAW 2018 Counselling Schedule

The authority responsible for MHCET Law counseling and seat allotment is DHE (Directorate of Higher Education) Maharashtra. Candidates who have qualified the examination will be called based on their results and rank secured.

The counseling for MHCET 2017 was a multi-step process. The first step involves registration by filling the online centralized admission form, announcement of merit list by the organizing authority, filling the university preferences, uploading of the seat-allotment results, and reporting to the allotted colleges.
