The University of Mumbai is a state public university in India, established in 1857. University has two campuses- Fort campus and larger Kalina campus which spans 230 acres.

The university offers different academic programs, including Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral, diploma and certificate courses in disciplines like Arts, Commerce, Science, Medical and Engineering. It has 36 departments and over 200 courses at different levels. The student body exceeds 5.5 Lakh across its campuses and affiliated colleges. It has more than 500 faculty members. As of 2013 university had 711 affiliated colleges.

Student facilities include hostels for boys and girls, a virtual classroom, a library, a gym, a canteen, an auditorium and sports facilities. The university also maintains laboratories and a substantial collection in its library.

Admission requires clearing specific entrance tests like MHT CET for certain programs. University is recognized by UGC and accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC. In QS World University Rankings 2024 it ranked #751-760 and placed 45th among Indian universities according to NIRF.

Placements - 2879 students were placed from a graduating pool of 4037 in 2022. Median salary for 2-year PG students was 15 LPA.
