Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM, was founded in 1980, by a group of eminent Scholars and industrialists to promote a world-class institution of higher learning in the diverse field.

GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research established for admitting 150 MBBS students annually to give world class training. Initially, it is operational with 360 beds with all basic specialities like Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Opthalmology, Paediatrics, Dermatology, ENT, Psychiatry, Pulmonology, Physiotherapy etc. There are 05 Nos. of operation theatres to cater to the needs of various specialities. The out-patient departments are run by qualified specialists.

In 2007, this premier institution of higher learning and research with Global standards got recognised as a deemed to be university u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, by Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of India.

The Medical College Campus is adjacent to the Hospital is equipped with all modern facilities as per the guidelines and norms issued by Medical Council of India. The student labs, classrooms, library, auditorium and research labs are all designed on par with the most advanced institutions in the country.
