Birla Institute of Technology (BITS)
was established in the year 1955 with the vision of nurturing the minds with its rich heritage in the academics. The campus is spread over 780 acres of land and is a hub of bustling student activities, which is a second home for the students during the challenging times. It was established by Mr. B M Birla and is a technical deemed to be university.
It is one of the first technical Institution to establish the Department of Space Engineering & Rocketry way back in 1964.
It is also the first institute to establish a static rocket test firing facility and also the first institute to offer P.G. programmes in the strategic areas in association with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It is the first institute which has been granted the autonomous status in the year 1972 under the UGC act.
It has also initiated the concept of science and technology entrepreneurs park before adopting the national model. There are central facilities and guidance available to provide to the fresh students and it has also a unique tie up with the public sector banks.
Hostel and Facilities
Hostel
BITS Ranchi is a fully residential institution and has excellent separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There are 11 hostels for boys and 3 hostels for girls.
The hostels provide mess facilities with large dining halls. The hostels have reading rooms, common rooms with indoor games options and entertainment halls with televisions.

Campus facilities-
Being an institute of exceptional repute BITs Ranchi has excellent infrastructure and services for the students. The classic and laboratories are state of the art.
There is a special dispensary on campus equipped with diagnostic services and the institute has a tie up with Apollo Hospital Ranchi and with Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences Ranchi for dealing with medical emergencies.
The campus dispensary also provides free medical treatment and medicines to the residents of the local villages.
The campus has a fully functional shopping complex with cooperative stores, tailoring units, and cafeterias. Apart from this the campus has 2 auditoriums, outdoor playgrounds, gymnasium, 2 canteens and 3 guest houses.

Eligibility:
To pursue MBA at BITS students must satisfy following eligibility criteria.
1. Candidates must have appeared in CAT 2008.more
2. They must hold a Bachelor�s degree (minimum 10+2+3) or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the UGC / Ministry of HRD / AIU.
3. Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. / B. Com. Honours must have minimum 55% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in their Honours subject. Candidates of BBA and other graduate courses must have minimum 55% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects). Candidates graduating in 2009 can also apply, provided they can submit marksheets by 31 October 2009. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.
4. Candidates must have Verbal Percentile Score at least 40 (25 for SC/ST) and Total Percentile Score at least 40 (25 for SC/ST) in CAT-2008.Admission Procedure
BITS College Ranchi follows admission procedure given below.
Each Centre will shortlist candidates for counselling on the basis of their Total Percentile Scores in CAT-2008, provided they have applied for that Centre, and fulfill the eligibility criteria. Counselling schedules for each Centre, will be displayed by 7 May 2009 on the Institute website and Notice Boards at Mesra and concerned Extension Centres only. No separate intimations will be sent to candidates. The counselling process will be held tentatively between 13 to 22 May 2009 at Jaipur, Mesra and Noida. Candidates may appear for counselling at Jaipur or Mesra or Noida as per their choice indicated in their application form.more
Provisional selections will be based on Total Percentile Scores in CAT-2008 of such candidates who have applied and fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned above. The Institute will not use group discussions or personal interviews in the selection process. Separate selections will be made by each Centre.
