Sikkim Government College, Tadong, Gangtok (Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College) was established in 1977.

The college is affiliated with Sikkim University. It offers 19 undergraduate programs and 5 postgraduate programs. Programs cover Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences and Vocational Studies.

Undergraduate courses include B.A (Hons.) in different subjects like History, Political Science and English. BSc (Hons.) programs are available in subjects like Chemistry and Physics. The college also offers B.Com (Hons.). At the postgraduate level, it provides M.A in English, History and Economics, along with MSc in Physics and Mathematics.

College enrolls around 3000 undergraduate students and about 120 postgraduate students. The faculty consists of over 150 members. Facilities include classrooms, laboratories and a computer center. Campus features a language lab, science labs and a Software Development Lab. Additionally , it has recreational sports facilities, including volleyball and basketball courts, along with a gymnasium.

Admission to undergraduate courses relies on scores from 10+2 exam. For postgraduate courses admissions depend on entrance exam results and undergraduate marks.

The college has UGC recognition. It received a Grade B++ accreditation from NAAC. In 2018, the institute ranked in the top 200 UGC recognized colleges in India and was 3rd in North-East India according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework.
