The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), formerly known as Post Graduate Correspondence School (PGCS) was established in May 1998. The objective of the university is to provide higher education to those who are unable to acquire it through conventional means.

It offers programmes at Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctorate level. It also offers various certificate courses. Undergraduate programmes include the following:

• Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA)
• B. Sc – Information Technology
• Diploma in English Language Teaching (DELT)

At the postgraduate level the following programmes are included:

The university also has various examination centres in various places including:

Admission to postgraduate programmes require passing marks at the graduate level while admission to undergraduate programmes require passing marks at the school level.

Application and Admission Procedure

Students can apply for admission via both online as well as offline. They need to download the application form from the official website of the university.

For online procedure, the student should register by giving email address and password and proceed with the application form. After filling up the form, the students are instructed to take a print out only after rechecking all the details.

For the offline procedure, the candidate needs to download the application form from the official website of the university.

For both online as well as offline, the candidate need to send the application form, the bank challan and processing fees and other documents to the university.

Admission Procedure-

The candidates will be shortlisted strictly on the basis of marks obtained in the last qualifying examination. Also, for selection for B.Tech program is done on the basis of Assam Combined Entrance Test (CEE) and for research courses candidates have to clear Gauhati University Research Entrance Test (GURET).

The exam is compulsory for all the candidates willing to take admission in the university.

The candidate must qualify the examination, and those candidates who are not able to qualify for the examination conducted by the university are not eligible for admissions.
