The university aims to develop technologies and train manpower in agriculture and related fields in Chhotanagpur and Santhalpargana regions.
The university provides different courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. It offers MSc degrees in Agriculture, Veterinary Science and Forestry, among others. M.Tech and MBA programs are also available. The university has 35 postgraduate departments and offers honors programs in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry.
Birsa Agricultural University has around 200 lecturers along with some professors on a contractual basis. University consists of eleven colleges though details about these colleges are not provided.
Facilities at university include a computer center, library, classrooms, hospital, guest house and laboratories. Admissions for undergraduate programs occur via two methods. Fifteen percent of seats come from a national exam while 85% are filled through a state-level exam.
University receives approval from University Grants Commission (UGC). It has accreditation from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) from May 2021 to May 2026. According to the NIRF Report 2023 the median salary for undergraduates in different programs is INR 6,40,000 and INR 7,50,000. The placement rate for students is nearly 100%.
